Rate this book
When Emily Bing and Matt Martinez discovered the old red sled in Emily’s attic, they never dreamed it would hold amazing powers. But the magical Canadian Flyer has taken the pair back through time to the most exciting points in Canada’s to the far north to come face to face with pirates, to the Klondike to join the gold rush, and even so far back in time that they encounter dinosaurs. Now, the intrepid duo is ready for its next adventure — an incredible voyage to the Viking settlement of Vinland. Beating Columbus by almost 500 years, Leif Eriksson was the first European to set foot on North American soil. Emily and Matt join Eriksson and his crew on their historic journey to Vinland in the year 1001. But although Eriksson successfully navigates across the sea to the New World, once on land he and his crew become hopelessly lost! Will Matt and Emily’s ingenious plan get them back on course? This riveting, fact-based adventure sweeps readers headlong into the past.

The story is about 2 kids [Emily & Mat] who found a magic sled on another adventure Viking time, what year I do not know for sure, anyway there is someone that wants to steal the sled THE GUNNER!!! [the gunner is someone who trains other people onboard how to fire and load pistols] Anyhow the gunner wanted to steal the sled but the kids got it back!!

I like the book because it is funny and unexpecting.

I recommend it because it can teach you to not take stuff that is not yours.

Reminiscent of the popular Magic Treehouse series, in the Canadian Flyer Adventures a magic sled takes two children back in time to explore important historic Canadian events. Fans of the Magic Treehouse books will love these fast paced, easy to read adventure stories. Short chapters and age appropriate vocabulary make these books perfect for children ready for their first chapter books. These books can each be read as a stand alone story as they begin with a quick summary of how the children found the sled and how it works.
In this fourth book the children travel back to the time of Leif Eriksson and his discovery of Vinland.
Very basic information regarding the lifestyle and living conditions of the vikings is included, as well as information about life on board a viking ship.
The educational highlight of this book, as in all of the series are the list’s of Emily and Matt’s Top Ten Facts and the author's note. These brief lists build on the information the story covers.
