Ember Baro’s mother is cock blocking her from the grave. She discovers she has twelve years to keep her nose clean and hands from getting dirty where clients are concerned. If she doesn’t, she’ll lose everything she’s worked for. So, she cleans houses by day and dances by night, going along thinking she has everything under control. Then she meets Bryce Case, the one person she’s supposed to stay away from, and all she can think about is having him and his sweaters, and peacoats, and sea breeze scent all to herself.
After losing his parents and a family friend in a car accident, Bryce Case spends his time working tirelessly at the town mortuary. Now his life is clean and tidy, but the house he shares with his brother’s? Not so much. With their plates full of other things, hiring a cleaning lady seemed like a smart move to make, but the last person Bryce was expecting to walk through his door was the hard to resist, Ember Baro. To make matters worse, he makes a deal with his brother to keep his designer pants zipped around Ember, and now everything in his orderly life is a mess.
Will the threads that bind choke out the flame or hold them together?
M.K. Condry writes contemporary romance that’s equal parts steamy and smart—designed to make you blush, laugh, and maybe text your partner something filthy. Her heroines are the kind of women you want in your corner (or at brunch), and her heroes? All dirty talk and sinful charm—the kind you’d fantasize about.
She’s a genre-hopping reader with a hard “HEA required” rule. When a story plays it too safe, she hunts down the dark, the taboo, or the downright unhinged just to crank the dial back up.
A Southern California homebody through and through, M.K. likes her bed made, her laundry folded, and her meals planned—until a plot twist pulls her under. By day, she writes. By night, she reads until reality fades.
I love a witty read, and this steamy romcom has no shortage of sharp dialogue, colorfully complex characters and clever wordplay that will leave you smiling. Author MK Condry turns the forbidden love trope on its head, with feisty but virginal (yes, at 28 she considers herself a “technical virgin”) cleaning lady Embry lusting after her cocky playboy client Bryce. Not only are they of two different statuses/social circles, but Embry has agreed to comply with a stipulation in her late mother’s will that she not get romantically involved with a cleaning business client, no matter how alluring he may be!
Despite operating under the watchful eye of her mother’s lawyer, Embry is tempted to break the rules when Bryce sees her in a sexy new light after witnessing her sensual belly dancing performance. The lusty tables turn! Between the tantalizing teasing and the smouldering heat, there’s some hilarious shenanigans including a shocking wardrobe malfunction and getting locked in a coffin. MK Condry has a wildly vivid imagination that makes for a terrifically fun read.
Threads is a friends to lovers, small town romance. It’s written in a dual POV. It’s the third book in the Heaven Series but it can be read as a standalone.
Ember has recently lost her mother and finds out that she’ll inherit her mothers cleaning business after 12 years only if she doesn’t get involved with any of her clients. If she does, she stands to lose everything. She’s an only child and didn’t have a great relationship with her mother who was manipulative and controlling.
Bryce works in the mortuary and has recently lost his parents. He lives with his twin brothers and is their legal guardian. He’s really swoonworthy even though he’s a bit of a womaniser, he seems to be with a different woman every week.
Sparks start to fly when Ember starts cleaning the mortuary and when they both realise just how much they’re falling for each other.
Overall I loved reading this story. It’s funny, sweet, steamy with just the right amount of angst. Ember and Bryce are perfect for each other and their chemistry is hot. Some of the situations that they get themselves into are hilarious. I especially loved the twins, I thought they were really funny, and Frankie, one of Embers best friends. This is the first book I’ve read by MK Condry but it definitely won’t be the last.
There's so much I can say about Threads. I loved Stages and Halves, but Threads, Threads was hands down my absolute favorite. I loved Ember and Bryce and how they overcame the cloud of her mother's control to create the life they wanted and they were destined to have. Threads had some funny, some heartwarming, and some downright tragic moments and I loved every bit of the journey through this book and this series!
