John Wilkinson was an eighteenth century ironmaster who was responsible for making the steam engine of James Watt actually work. He was a pioneer in all aspects of ironmaking and its practical use. His life was full of innovation and personal colour. He was a leading industrialist who built the first iron boat and contributed to the world's first iron bridge, in Shropshire, England.
