An emotional read!

This is a beautifully written book that will pull at the heartstrings.
Peter Smith, having survived the American war of independence with only one arm remaining, is encouraged to enter politics and move his family further south. Little did he know what consequences his decision would bring him and his beautiful wife, Ann.
I enjoyed the book, even though it broke my heart in a couple of places. A story of bravery, determination, and love.

The third in the series, Peter Smith who had endured being kidnapped as a lad to serve in the British Navy was ultimately rescued and raised by a Boston family before joining the American cause for freedom. In doing so, he lost an arm, being deemed an American hero. During this time he married Anne who followed him to South Carolina where she cleverly rescued him from a British dungeon. When in Boston, after taking care of affairs of his deceased parents, they returned to South Carolina where they were awarded farmland of past loyalists to the crown. Unfortunately, this resulted in all kinds of issues and retribution of those loyalists who remained behind from Peter's lack of support of slavery, freeing and paying the slaves of his plantation who chose to remain. Although being elected as a representative, he had to leave behind his wife and children to serve for several months each year that left them vulnerable. Not willing to be involved in unscrupulous motives, he soon became disillusioned being part of the government. A well-written, gripping historical account conveyed in first person with short chapters by the different characters that keep readers captivated right up to the unexpected ending.

Very ,good interesting read set at the ending of the American War of independence and of one families experiences during this period. Story line shows the problems encountered and the difficulty trying to cope with the changes in both circumstances and conditions. Also shows the differences for people who served on the oppositing side . Good worth the read book comes highly recommended by my self.

I loved the story. It was very well written made me very emotional during some parts of the the plot. The history of the story was believable and I could imagine being there. I would recommend people of any age reading this especially if you are in to the history of your country.

Good Tale, unedited

I really enjoyed the three books in this series but it the lacked good editing for consistency. Many time wrong names appeared and time sequences failed to follow. Maybe we can blame it on AI editing.
