Demon Reform Academy #2

Demon Reform Academy: Term 2

Rate this book
In the shadowed corridors of Demon Reform Academy, a sinister presence slithers within the veins of its victims, promising a darkness more violent than any demonic power.

For the last three months, I survived the desert campus filled with vicious demons while being haunted by the scars of my past. But when students began succumbing to the grasp of dark magic, my power spiraled out of control, intent on consuming every bit. With an uncanny ability to devour the darkness infecting others, I became a beacon for the attention of Dark Veil, the depraved society pulling the strings behind it all.

With the violent snap of matebonds, the Fates bound my soul to five demons. Three of my fated mates, once enemies, dropped to their knees, apologies ringing hollow against the echoes of their torment last term. But even with the ache in my heart, two other matebonds connected me to caring, loving, and safe demons—the embodiment of what I had longed for in a mate.

As I struggled with my newfound powers and my matebonds, Dark Veil showered me with gifts, drawn to the ‘untapped potential’ they sensed within me. I refused to bend to their will, determined to destroy the darkness they sought to wield—but what I wanted wasn’t on their agenda.

Matebonds, former enemies at my feet, dark magic infections, and the looming threat of a dark magic cult—this term at Demon Reform Academy promised a whirlwind of danger and desire.

I have two words: Disappointed and repetitive. Spoilers

My friends. I have been staring at that December 12th release date since I finished the first book in this series....on the day it was released. I was hooked. You had me. Demons, bullies, trauma, you had me on the line. Then today happened and I read through this book forcing myself every step of the way.

If we take out the number of conversations where Pandora repeats herself we wouldn't have even 3 chapters. If we take out chapters that sort of have to do with the main plot but seem like we are setting up a new book series we would have less.

Let's start with why this book bothered me. The repetitive dialogue and thoughts. We hear Pandora's trauma story in full I think 3-5 times. We hear it in anger, we hear it in sobs, we hear it in her discussion with her new friend. We get it. And it wasn't exactly a secret in the first book so it being something repeated that much in this one had me skimming and thinking "Okay, you have trauma. We get it." Along with that repeat for the love of God we know you don't forgive the three guys. We get it every other page. You tell them, you tell your other mates, you tell your dad, your best friend, and even yourself in your own dialogue. WE UNDERSTAND NOW SHUT THE FUCK UP.

This book moved almost nowhere because of this and I found myself over Reed in this book because how much cotton candy sweetie pie can we take or need? The good part about the three assholes in the first book is we got that good balance of support and push back needed in these books to make it work. Without her having any relationship with the other three and it being a mess we just got boring.

Then we have the new friend who wants to bang her dad?.... honestly I don't care that much but it's pretty weird by the 6th time she repeated it. Because again.....we get it.

I don't think I'll be moving on with this series. This was enough for me to give up I think. And I do actually like her books normally.

No. I’m Out

Pandora is the most inane character I’ve ever had the displeasure of reading. Yes. I get it. She’s had stunted growth because of Mommy Dearest so her inner monologue is that of a 5 year old rather than a 20-something. I was more than happy to continue the story, but the line that lost me? Watching Dex be mutilated and her telling him she forgave him everything but if he rejected her then she couldn’t forgive him. Dex. Who was forced. Dex. Who was tortured. Talk about being selfish and self centered. There are no redeeming qualities for her. Poor Pandora…she treats her mates like they owe her. She doesn’t get to know them or understand them any more than they did. And now? Just plain idiocy.

You have no idea how badly I wanted to LOVE this book, because trust me I loved book one in the series. I eagerly awaited this one and I am so disappointed. I hate to leave a negative review because gosh I do love this author and her other books… this just fell so flat.

It was so repetitive. Like yes girl, we understand what they did to you, we lived it all through book one. And yes, we know what happened to you, you don’t have to retell the horrors of your life to each mate/friend individually like at least 5 times in this book… this conversation alone took up multiple chapters.

We saw groveling yes… but like no redemption. Just whining about what they did and then them giving her gifts. Like there was little to no conversation between them other than rehashing everything over. And over. and over again…

They gave gifts? cool? And she forgave Skel because he showed her some cats? Really?

Then we have all these additional story lines that were so pointless.. like Hunters side quests for vengeance? Skels sister getting infected with dark magic? They felt like chapter fillers..

And her new friend? Like yes girl you want to bang her dad. We got it after the 6th time you repeated it (even though you never see him once. In this entire book). Then her bully’s just kept coming at her regardless of losing body parts? Like I just don’t get it.

There was no real story here.. like they found out they were mates. Cried about everything. (Like no really every one was crying this whole book apparently.). Her dad made odd appearances. Her friend wants to boink her dad. She was hurt. Her bullies lost limbs. Then she was kidnapped?

Literally that’s the book. No need to read it, I just gave you the entire story.

Honestly I’ll give book 3 a go. Like I said I love the author and maybe book 3 will redeem this series.

You know how you see the preview for a new movie and think, wow, that looks like a great movie, but then you watch the movie and realize all the best scenes were in the previews and the rest of the movie fell short? Unfortunately, that's how I feel about the Tiktok teasers and actually reading Demon Reform Term 2.

Oh Lyra, I'm sorry but... I loved Fate Hollow. I enjoyed Demon Reform Term 1. But Demon Reform Term 2 was a miss for me.

The beginning of the book feels repetitive with seeing the same scene through multiple characters points of view. Overall, the book feels rushed. I can't quite put my finger on why, but I struggled to stay engaged and keep reading this when I normally can't put Lyra's books down? Something is going on with Nebula and that bums me out bc he's a favorite of mine!

One highlight, I love the new character, Jenni. I'm so happy Pandora has a genuine gal pal.

Will I read Demon Reform Term 3 when it comes out in February 2025? Most definitely, I gotta find out how you redeem that ending because COME ON!!! I need to know what's up with Nebula. And if Jenni and Daryl aren't fated- I'm gonna throw something!

No no no! You evil evil woman!.. I can't believe the cliffhanger you have left us on at the end of that book!.. my heart broke reading that scene.. I cried noooo so loud I startled my dog!... I hope it's resolved soon because my heart can't take the anguish!..

You Miss Winters are an absolute world building genius.. I like seeing the guys grovel.. and It was pretty impressive grovelling.. this second addition to the series was amazing and I loved every single moment of reading it. The emotional turmoil I went through reading this book gave me whiplash..

Absolutely deserving the 5 stars I have given.

I don't know what exactly, but this book didn't hit quite the same as the first one. I still enjoyed it, sure, yet I also felt as if some things were a little repetitive. And it also felt like a couple things were changed from book 1:

What you expect to happen after the events at the end of book 1 happens. It is not a quick fix, and I do super appreciate that. I think I would have had a problem if things were forgiven and forgotten quickly, lol.

I am interested in the underlying dark magic plot, maybe more than the relationships occasionally. 🫣Pandora is having character growth, of course, it's the... Like I said, while the overall story is good, it's not hitting that same level of love as the first did for me.

And I may be in the minority of ARC readers, but the ending cliffhanger did not shock me. 😅

Also, I am fully expecting a side-story book about a couple certain characters now, please, thanks Lyra. 😁

Be prepared to have your heart wrenched out throughout reading this book because I certainly did. Starting from the first chapter which picked up right where the last one ended and my word did my heart bleed for Pandora (FMC). She was put through a hell of a lot from Skel, Dex and Bram. I was struggling to see how Pandora would forgive them.

Thank goodness for Hunter & Reed. They were endearing, loving and fiercely protective too. I loved Jenni too. She was a source of much needed humour in this book and a great addition to this series I thought. I'm loving reading this series so much and with that cliff-hanger ending Ill be on tenterhooks until book 3 now.

The amount of repetition in this book was awful. They repeated the same things over and over in dialogue. It was constant repeating of the same things in different ways on how the MMCs messed up. See what I did there? What a waste of time.

This is my first ever ARC so please pardon me if my review is not what you're expecting.
Buckle up Buttercup bc you're in for one emotional ride! From connecting with the emotional turmoil of the FMC to both hating and rooting for the MMCs you're going to experience love, laughs, heartache, and bloodthirsty revenge. you're gonna love Gumdrop and don't worry i have it on good authority that nothing bad will ever happen to him! While i would've liked to see some more intense groveling from the MMCs and more effort from the FMC in working towards accepting them i must say the groveling we got was amazing and i applaud the FMC for her more human reaction to what happened. Now for the warning, if you don't like massive cliffhangers that leave you screaming into your pillow with your husband coming to see who he needs to fight, id wait for Term 3. If you're an emotional masochist who enjoys literary pain please grab your emotional support blanket/stuffy and a cozy drink bc this one will do it for ya!

the pain is real in this one

I knew the cliffhanger was coming. Thought I was prepared. I was not, in fact, prepared. At all. THAT HURT.

This book was full of pain, but also hope for Pandora and her men. She is starting to understand them all better and we are getting even more glimpses of how they will work as a full group in the future. The side cast just keeps getting better too! I’m so excited to see what certain character’s journey’s go (Jenni)!

I’ll be dreaming up my own endings until book three comes out lol

Really good

I found there was a lot of back and forth basically flip flopping between her wanting to accept the 3 guys. It’s a book, about paranormals, so completely plausible in this supernatural world to have multiple mates. I found the guys redeemed themselves, literally grovelling on their knees in public and creative messages that highlight each of the guys characters. Even, I forgave them, but because she waited so long, events happened where Dex was forced to reject her.

Dex’s parents deserve a horrible death for all the shit they put him through, not even counting how they murdered his 10 year old sister with the same rituals the performed on Dex after she died. Unfortunately, Dex was only 4 when they murdered his sister, and that’s when they started the same rituals with him.
Charlotte Vain (Druid that feeds on nightmares), Reeds Ex best friend also needs to die slowly and painfully. The awful stuff she makes Pandora relive in her nightmares was awful to read. Thankfully Reed witnessed it and saw who Charlotte really was. She also somehow got Reeds mother involved with Dark Veil. Reed was to be sacrificed/initiated to the Dark Veil so Reed’s dad could come back to life. Reed’s mom commits suicide to escape her bad decisions, she was caught by the council and was told to inform on Dark Veil. Dex’s parents said she took something that they were looking for, and left a letter for Reed, apologizing for her bad decisions and how she loved him but she wanted to be with her soul mate. It was heartbreaking because we read Reed’s thoughts on how much he loved his mother despite her being absent. It’s alluded to that Charlotte was in contact with Reeds mother. She seems to pop up in all the guys families. Charlotte promised Pandora, she would be mating with All of Pandoras mates. Jealousy isn’t a good look on Charlotte. She need a to be taken down publicly, and humiliated before being tortured to death. #noregrets

Dex’s evil mother poured Dark Magic down his severed neck making him obey her demands of rejecting her and bonding to Charlotte. I can’t wait to read when Pandora kills his Dex’s parents who are in Dark Veil, the secret magic cult trying to create a new form of demon with unlimited power and regeneration. It typically kills the host, but Dex seems to sloff it off most of the time, unless it’s poured directly into his neck, then he’s at the mercy of his parent’s ruthlessness. Thankfully, Pandora powers are more than just soul eating, even if no one knows exactly what that extra bit is, it seems to suck all the Dark Magic up, and immediately after, Pandora pukes up dead Dark Magic matter. Nebula, the soul of her kitten that her mother murdered explained that bit about the stuff that she pukes up.

Dex and Pandora need to get free from their cells, and with Dex breaking the gem necklace that suppressed Pandora’s powers, it was hopefully one step closer to them getting the f out of there, but Dex’s parents showed up with demands of their own, giving Pandora the option to save her mates bestie, Pandoras own bestie, or the horrible bully from her academy. Her bully got what was coming to her but it wasn’t how I hoped. Pandora deserved a drawn out payback, in full view of the school. Instead she died to quickly.

I didn’t find that I NEEDED to know what was going to happen next like I did in the first book which, I guess this one just didn’t grab me as much. I don’t know how to describe it since because I loved the first book so much I was interested in seeing where this would go.

I got a ARC for this book. I was eagerly awaiting it based upon the cliffhanger from the first book and it didn’t disappoint. It was such a ride and you learned more back story of the characters. There were at times when us the readers knew more then Pandora and I just wanted to tell the guys just tell her she will understand. The cliffhanger for the second book is worse than the first. I can’t wait for the next book.

Look, I totally think men should be able to cry, but this was over the top. Why is everyone constantly crying? It cheapens any actual emotions when everyone is constantly sobbing about everything. It was also contradicted when Pandora claims that demons can handle more trauma than a human. This was really hard to slog through for a bunch of different reasons. Predictable and generic. I feel like I've read this same cliffhanger 30 times.

This book was filled with repetition and moved nowhere until the last few pages when the fmc and one of her mates on her shit list were kidnapped.

If you have read my reviews then you know how much these sort of filler books annoy me. Authors seem to love to drag a good idea out for longer than it’s worth. But reading the same thing over and over is so annoying. Come on, author. You aren’t fooling anyone! You just got paid for me to read a copy and paste book. 🙄🤬

There was groveling but it dragged on for too long and I read the same things over and over from these characters until I started getting the mmcs all confused and it blended into one. Actually the entire book blended into one emotion for me. Sad. The fmc repeated her emotions to every Tom, Dick and Harry so often I thought this was a book about Sad Sally and her dead cat 🐱who smell cotton candy all the time.

The bad guys going from angry to simps was not believable at all-but also I get with fated mates that we suspend beliefs. But they go from bullies to crying p🐱ssies on their knees? Again. Not buying it.

Several chapters were setting up future books and didn’t move the story along. The obsession her “best friend” has with her dad is suuuuuuppper gross. 🤮I get telling her story or crush to her new friend but after that O m G NO ONE CARES!!!!! That just got repeated too! Again and again and again!!!! Sure we would love for the fmc’s dad to find a new love but are you really doing that in THIS book?

I was sucked in at first but then saw it was just going nowhere with the endless repetitive circle of sadness, cats, really bad poetry, random animal skulls and sickly sweet mates who smell like cotton candy.

I have hilights. Will add my notes in later!

Ohhhhh yeah. Absolutely loved this one. I think the writing overall improved from book one. Some parts can get repetitive tho (we the reader get her traumatic backstory each time she tells a new person)(the boys thoughts of longing and sobbing over how they treated her was also mentioned every chapter). It wasn’t a deal breaker or distracting for me tho. I love a whole book of groveling from the 3 mates that fucked up in the first book. That cliff hanger tho *chefs kiss* I’m mad about waiting 6 weeks for book 3. I enjoyed pandora getting a women friend this book (more books need good female friendships)( wild the friend is in love with her dad? And like I think it’s setting up for something later??) I like the 3 mates she didn’t bond with the best, I feel like they have more interesting back stories and development. And honestly reed annoyed me for like 75% of the book. He didn’t bother me in the first one I think (I don’t remember and didn’t write a review for book 1) but idk he’d be my least fave. The spice is very minimal and rather bland but that’s okay the plot of dark magic and evil secret societies and stopping said society from creating a stronger (eviler) demon race makes up for it 110% in my humble onion.🧅

Okay seriously, this booked picked up right where we left off in book, literally falling off a clif! This book got thicker into the plot, we're still slowly figuring out who the bad guys are, what their plan actually is, and why. Basically some power hungry loosers trying overthrow the balance and take over, no biggie. They want to use our girl, Pandora to do just that.

Meanwhile, Pandora is struggling with the three men from her harem who truly fudged up in book 1, skel, dex, and Bram. They are all still finding their footing going into book 3 but skel is doing okay and dex and bran are finally getting they gist if what Pandora needs to get over their bs from book one.

Pandora relationship with hunter and reed really took off in the book, and things got all sorts of hot an heavy 🥵 plus they all solidified their bonds, yay!

This book obviously breaks your heart on the worst possible cliffy! Pandora and dex have been kidnapped by his truly terrible parents and are trapped in a dungeon. Dexs mom, popy cut of his head and is forcing him to reject his bond with Pandora. Honestly devastating 💔

Overall I give this book 2/5 🌶 and 3.75/5 🌟

The only reason I'm not giving it the full 4 starts, is because there is a lot of repetition in this book. I feel like we could have cut out almost 25 pages of Pandora repeating herself in her struggles with skel, dex, and Bram. Otherwise I'm loving the story, the boys, and plot.

This was slightly better than the first. But everything was repetitive. All the 3 assholes did was beg, sob, and fall to their knees. They would leave her notes for her to find and apologize one or two times. I was tired of her constantly bringing up the trauma she went through, telling them she needs more time, but didn't allow them to grovel right, them sobbing on their knees. It was kinda pathetic and annoying. The plot didn't pickup until about 80%. Literally pages before she told him she forgives him after seeing the trauma he's had to go through also. Then you see him get decapitated and dark magic infused in him, you know he's not in control, so wtf are you saying you won't forgive him for being controlled?? Are you dense or just selfish?

I got an ARC copy of this book. Spoilers lower in the review.

I was really excited for Term 2 after the way that Term 1 ended. I liked that the FMC is on the softer side and not a right away tough badass like other books of the same paranormal academy genre. I like that she’s dealing with all the bad things that have happened to her but still back slides. It’s realistic and makes her more relatable.

For Term 2, I enjoyed the continuation of the story but it wasn’t as exciting as Term 1. I’m definitely looking forward to the next book but I think there could have been a few things to make Term 2 better. And I can’t actually believe I’m saying this because I LOVE grovelling. But this is the first time there might have been a little too much grovelling for me.

Overall I had fun reading it. Finished it in a day. And I’m definitely reading the next one.

************SPOILERS**********
Some of the questions I was asking myself that took me out of the story were:
How can Bram’s dad be calling him, causing Bram to get drunk, even after he said he blocked his number?
When did we find out Hunters dad was in Dark Veil (under cover)?
Why are her mates telling her dad they had sex??? I get that it was a way to add some levity but also super weird they are talking about their sex lives with his daughter. I think it could have been done differently with the same comedic effect sans yuck factor.

4.4 stars.
I have mixed feelings about the groveling in this book.
I really disliked how they treated her in the first book. But I don’t love how she’s treating them in this one.
On the one hand I totally agree with her. I think they should definitely earn her trust. On the other I’m a little confused how that’s supposed to happen when she doesn’t want to be around them. It just doesn’t seem very productive. And honestly their apologies were getting a little repetitive.
Then that cliffhanger happened and now I have no clue how this is all gonna work out.

Need to know

I like most of the book , the sex does make me cringe a bit but you can't have everything.
Pakistanis subverting n my new even as she seems to always need a macro save despite the fact she can devour souls & dark magic .
That said I find the storyline intriguing , I like most of the characters & I really want to try passion fruit lemonade .
I'm hoping Death gets really angry in his daughters behalf in the next book .I've got my own list of souls he can take

I am gutted. The groveling is great and some of the men still need to grovel a bit more, but it was *chefs kiss*. That cliff hanger though is what gutted me. The plot line is on point like always and is moving along nicely. Pandora is coming into her own and I'm so glad she at least has a couple of mates that didn't need to grovel.

ARC Review

Be prepared, Lyra wasn’t lying she said the cliff hanger on book two would be worse than the first one. With the ending of book one we’re left wondering what happens with the Pandora and being chased to the end of her wits figuratively and literally!

Book2 starts off right where book one left off for a smooth transition. The groveling was nice and well deserved but I wish in a way it had been in more depth but the plot moves along nicely. The ending sets us up for more to come in book three!

I love that we get to see the development and back stories of all of Pandoras mates, to see what has made them the way they are today. The three mates that aren’t in Pandora’s good graces gravel in their own unique ways. Pandora also gets a new best friend! She seems genuine so I really hope it continues that way, this new best friend has professed her love for Pandora’s dad after he saved her once.

Nebula seems to be a hidden character. We don’t know much about nebula yet, but I have a feeling in the next book will finally understand what and who nebula is/was? The book has hinted a few times around some possibilities, but nothing confirmed.

There is spice but not a lot, I have a feeling that will change once she fully forgives the three mates.

Overall, I really enjoyed reading book 2. I’m very excited to see how everything develops in book 3!!!

Ps, gumdrop is my favorite 🤣

If there was even a fucking sliver of hope that I could be worthy of my fated mate, I would do anything to earn that.

So hooked on this series! I absolutely adore Pandora and I loved that she’s becoming more confident and comfortable in her skin. Poor girl has a lot going on realizing she has 5 fated mates, 3 of which have been bullying her relentlessly. Her relationships with Reed and Hunter are adorable, but I’m glad she’s putting Bram, Skel, and Dex thru the ringer. But I’m quite enjoying their make up tactics and getting to know their background stories. The spice does pick up in this one so my smutty loves will be happy with that as the harem gets established. The ending had my heart in my throat 😱😱😱 I was not prepared for that cliffhanger!!!
