I literally need this so bad. I just finished crying about how the third season won’t be back on Netflix, and this solution makes me feel the teeniest bit better. But I still need a third season.

I received an advance reader copy of this book to read in exchange for an honest review via netgalley and the publishers.

Fate: The Winx Sage Volume 1 is a fun and fast-paced graphic novel following on from the Netflix adaption of the series. The novel starts approximately 6 months after the cliffhanger ending of the show (which was cancelled and turned into a comic book series), and I was really happy to return to the series. The characters were kept just like their on-screen counterparts, which I was so glad about. My only gripe was there's a 6 month gap between the ending of the show and I felt much had been missed such as Bloom meeting her real mum and seeing how the reunion played out as well as a recap for any newbies to the series to explain what had happened in the show or to explain who the characters were and their role. I felt that if I hadn't seen the show, I would be very confused as to the plot. Maybe a prequel would be a good idea? Besides that, I loved it and can't wait for the next instalment after another cliffhanger ending!

[4.5/5 ★★★★☆̸] MY GOD, what a ride! It was amazing to return to the world of the Winx, especially after the cliffhanger ending it had. I loved this volume, the story flows so well and feels like watching an episode. My only problem is that I needed MORE.

The story starts six months after the series ended, with the Winx and Sky worried about Bloom's disappearance and now threatened by shadow monsters and the uncertainty of Alfea's future.

I really loved the style they chose for this graphic novel; the illustrations are beautiful and everything feels true to the series. The ending was crazy, I need a lot of explanations and I hope the second volume comes out soon because I can't wait for more. PS: I feel like a mini recap was necessary, but it did left me with a need to rewatch the show, so that also works for me!

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read this graphic novel in exchange for an honest review! 🧚🏼‍♀️

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with this arc in exchange for an honest review.

Big thanks to NetGalley and Mad Cave Studio for trusting me with this ARC !

I've been a big fan of the Winx franchise for years, so obviously when Netflix announced a live action series, I was ecstatic. Unfortunately, after two seasons, the show was canceled and a comic series was taking over.

I was expecting for the comic to pick up where the end of season 2 left things off, in other words, when Bloom went through the portal in Alfea to meet her real mother in the realm of darkness. Instead of this we have a 6 months timeskip and no mother/daughter reunion scene.

Something that would have been great for the people who are not familiar with the franchise, and want to discover it, would be to have a prequel to recap the first two seasons.
When the first art visuals were released, I was a bit scared of how the whole book would look like, but in the end the characters are easy to recognize and the art style is really nice!
Now let’s talk about the characters. We have some individual and relationship developments. The problem is most of them are happening too quickly.
First, Riven. Even though he softened a lot in S2, he changed from a bad boy to a sweet guy in a few pages. (And his relation with Musa escalated real fast too.)
The same goes for Kat and Terra.
We still have some interactions between Stella and her mother, before the fairy of the sun adapted in a world where Bloom’s no longer with the group in the Winx suite.

Now, to all the long time fans, a childhood enemy is back (although his look was drastically changed) and I can’t wait to see if the lore in the next volumes will be the same as in the cartoon!

I noticed some information differ from the show, especially Beatrix’s siblings (Isobel and D’arcy), and we have no explanations about these changes.

The plot is full of twists and turns. The ending was great, I’m longing for the sequel now!

I enjoyed the art style of this book, even though it didin't match the Winx aesthetic I was expecting. The characters also didn't seem to follow the personalities and the decision-making of the Netflix series. I thought the pacing of this story was also very strange. Parts felt rushed and others felt quite drawn out for little reason. The perspective changed very abruptly throughout the story, interrupting plot points and switching to another character's storyline randomly. It felt very clunky and probably should've been in two parts to allow for a deeper exploration of each character's story and development.

Overall, I thought this story had promise, but the execution was rushed and confusing.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an advanced copy of this story!

This was bad. I thought this was supposed to be a sequel to the show, but it’s like the writer didn’t watch it or maybe just skimmed it.

Nope. It’s bad. The writing is clunky to the point that it uses words that aren’t the correct ones, in the context and I don’t know if it’s just the Apple Books digital copy, but did anyone edit this? At all? Because you might want to do that a few more times. Get a proofreader.

Even the popular characters are wildly ooc, even if you want to argue that they were never meant to be like on the Netflix show. (Though maybe don’t market this as a sequel then.) But that doesn’t even matter, because even within this one not so long graphic novel the characters’ decisions and development make no sense.

I’m sure I wasn’t intended to come out of this one amused, but I am, because I just can’t take it seriously.

This graphic novel is a continuation of the Netflix series!!! I know a lot of fans of the series, like me, have been craving for more and this graphic novel delivers!! It was so good, it exceeded my expectations!!!

The illustrations are super atmospheric. And there was a looot of story, reading this really made my day!

Bloom still hasn’t returned from the realm of darkness, it’s been 6 months.. Alfea has no headmistress and Bloom took the Dragon Flame with her so Alfea is more vulnerable than ever.

There’s a completely new (and fascinating!) threat to the school and its students and meanwhile Queen Luna decides to put Alfea under control of the Solarian military. And makes some other questionable decisions.. The students need a leader to do something about the new intense threat to the school, together and stand up to Queen Luna. They need Bloom!! What they decide to do next might backfire on them tho, in more than one way..

There’s a lot of character development happening troughout the story. We learn why Bloom doesn’t want to come back, why Aisha an Terra go through some relationship struggles, there’s new romance, unanswered romance and an amazing and surprising development of Stella’s character, thanks to the support of her awesome Winx friends! The girlpower and friendship of this group really is magic!

This has SO MUCH drama haha but the entertaining kind. And lots of new mysteries! I was shocked by the ending but I have a feeling that volume 2 might provide some much needed solutions.

Thank you NetGalley and Mad Cave Studios for providing me with this exciting arc, in exchange for my honest review!

So this is apparently a continuation of the Netflix TV series, which I haven't seen much of, and unfortunately, it does not stand on its own. I don't know if there is a graphic novel version of the TV series, but you need some context going into it. And the cartoon/GNs based on the cartoon are not enough.

Also, the art style really isn't my cup of tea. Very blocky and sloppy looking.

i have loved winx club since i was a kid and still do (just look at my profile pic) but this fell flat…. it felt like a part 2 and not a beginning story for graphic novels. it was clunky and all over the place

I’m surprised this was approved to be Canon by Netflix. This was straight fan fiction and didn’t fit the vibe of the Netflix series it’s meant to continue off of, or the original Winx universe, which makes it something else all on its own. There’s a lot that is skipped over that deserved storylines. I hope volume 2 will have a better conclusion to everything and maybe offer more detail as to how Bloom meets her family / relationships develop.

Thank you Maverick for a copy of Fate: The Winx Saga Vol. 1!

"In a continuation of the hit Netflix series, Fate: The Winx Saga Vol. 1: Dark Destiny, follows a group of fairies enrolled at the magical school of Alfea in the wake of losing their close friend, Bloom. In this new school year, Aisha, Kat, Terra and the rest of our heroes must face a mysterious new enemy that threatens to destroy everything they love."

Ok, I think readers/reviewers should note that this is a continuation of a Netflix show and not the Winx Club (animated show). I was quite lost starting this book and wish there was a Volume 0 if that even exists lmao or a "review chapter". Aside from that, the art was gorgeous and I love how diverse this edition is!

i have never seen the netflix show and i had no idea there was one. i just found this at my local library in the new section and the cover drew me in. i don't feel like i need to see the show to read these novels, so don't worry if you haven't seen it either. maybe i'll watch it one day just to have more of a backstory but again i don't feel like i'm missing anything. it was an engaging read! i love all things magical. ✨

the only negative and i wouldn't even say it's a negative really but it feels as if the story skips around a bit here and there. you move locations often, so you just have to keep up. once you understand how the pace goes from one scene to another it's worth it!

overall i really enjoyed this and i'm looking forward to volume two! 🤗

I read this book right after finishing the TV show and was really excited to see what happens next. I enjoyed the book overall and am looking forward to the next one; however, parts of it seemed rushed. Think this could easily be fleshed out in a longer book or another season, but as they came across in this book it was choppy. Also, while almost all of the characters looked close to their actors in the show I was confused as to why Beatrix looks different especially because her sketch at the end of the book looks like the actress who portrayed her in the show. Curious to see what happens in book 2 and glad we are getting more of the Fate story, but this book could have been longer and contain more detail and a more fluid storyline which would have made it more enjoyable.

Thanks netgalley and mad cave studios for the arc ✨

I think it's fair to say graphic novels based on TV series and films aren't exactly always brilliant. Original graphic novels acting as sequels to TV series nobody can be bothered to make any more of aren't that much better. This is one of those, and seems fine – it's just that as someone who's never heard of the source material, this is unreadable. There is literally no allowance for anyone to play catch-up, meaning all the efforts of a predominantly female creative team are pretty much wasted. If you know you need this, you've got it already; if not, steer clear.

I did not grow up watching the cartoon, but I did watch a few episodes of the Netflix show a few years ago. I thought the world-building and magic was fun. I picked this up on a whim and I really liked it. I’m not a huge fan of the blocky outlines of the illustrations, but the colors and fashion of the Winx aesthetic is nicely depicted. I remembered enough from the show to follow the story, which helped a lot. Slow start, but the action builds and it ends in a cliffhanger. I’ll definitely pick up the next volume.

Thank you to the publishers - Mad Cave Studios – for giving me access to this graphic novel as an E-ARC via Netgalley. All opinions are my own.

I used to run home from school to catch Winx Club on Nickelodeon. Such a fun show! When Netflix’s adaptation came out a few years ago I thought it was a nice addition and sort-of reboot for the show in a sense.

This graphic novel is based on the Netflix show and it’s a continuation of the series taking off where the show ended. It continues with the slightly darker tone of the live action show, and I enjoyed the adventure. Bloom is missing, and Alfea is missing its fire fairy. The adventure felt fitting to the universe. It had friendship, emotions of longing and loss and teamwork. Just like Winx Club should be.

I also liked Christianne Gillenardo-Goudreau’s drawing style.

I’m being generous with this rating as I loved the show but this was way too rushed and didn’t really capture the magic of the series. I appreciate we are Gerri g some closure for this story since the series was cancelled but I just wished this had been more fleshed out. The art was pretty and it was semi enjoyable but still too much going on with not much background info for new readers.

Thanks to NetGalley and Mad Cave Studios for granting me access in exchange for an honest review.

So this book is bad, but I blame it on the show being bad. This comic has really jumped the shark. The dark realm is something people can apparently walk in and out of. Very confused about Bloom abandoning everyone even when they need help. Also Bloom is one of 3 sisters now??! Not to mention the wild inclusion of Lord Dakar for OG winx fans. This was trash, the show was trash. I will be reading the next volume just to see how insane it can get.

Focused waaaaayyy too much on yucky gay Terra and her gay relationship. They totally made her to be flora but the outrage was too much so they went ohh actually it's not flora, this other person later on will be flora. Hate all the changes in the Winx world system and major changes to the charachter personalities. The background plot is interesting, but soooo different. Should've just made new characters and not even called it Winx. Can't even transform into fairies. Intro lord darkla
