This is my first book by this author and I cannot wait to read more. I really enjoyed this one. What made this book for me was the characters. They all had their own backstories that make you understand or at least know why they are taking part. I love the idea around this book because I could see several people partaking in something like this. I liked the writing and how it will immediately hook you. Overall, I would definitely recommend this one. It’s fun and different.
Let me just say that the publisher sent me the physical book of this and I am so grateful, but it does not impact my review in any way.
I read this book in one sitting. Do you know how hard it is to read a book in the daytime when you are a stay-at-home mom and have a three-year-old who constantly wants your attention? Very hard. But I did it because this book was THAT GOOD! Like when I tell you to go run and read this book as soon as you can, you should probably go do that. Because, this book, it was amazing. It was so well written and I didn't want it to end. I now want to read the rest of Season One because I need to know what happens.
This book is written in first person and switches between multiple characters POVs. I loved how the author draws you into the story and gives you the background of each of the women. Each one has a different reason for deciding to me married off at an auction. They each need the money for different purposes. And let me tell you, these billionaire men, I love them. After reading the trigger warnings (message me if you want to know what they are), I was a little afraid that these arrange marriages wouldn't be that great, but I was wrong. I loved the auction and what happens after. I love how each character has someone who compliments them in some way.
I was kind of questioning why this book has such an amazing rating on Goodreads. I was thinking "it can't be THAT good." Boy, was I wrong. I was SO wrong. This book was SO GOOD and I don't know if anything can top it for my favorite book this year (and it's only January). Go read this book!
❥𝒔𝒉𝒐𝒓𝒕 𝒔𝒖𝒎𝒎𝒂𝒓𝒚: how far would you go for money, if it’s your last resort? four women enter into a auction to be married to the highest bidders. for at least a million dollars a year, for three years, each woman will sell her life away to secure her future.. or escape her past.

❥𝒎𝒚 𝒆𝒙𝒑𝒆𝒓𝒊𝒆𝒏𝒄𝒆: reading the title of this book, there were no surprises what the story is about. i don’t think i’ve ever read a book that similar to this, so that’s definitely a positive! there are a lot of pov’s in this story, and some were more interesting than others. my favorite couple is definitely faith and joel! 🫶🏼 faith is such a strong person and she seems like a great match for joel. i also love how joel handled the situation at the end of the book.
all in all it’s a nice read, very addictive and I’m looking forward to continuing this series.
The Marriage Auction was originally on Kindle Vella and had over 1 million reads 😲 How impressive is that?
The book reads like a deliciously addictive reality show. I knew from the moment I read the synopsis I'd need to get my hands on the rest of the series.
Candidates agree to live as a spouse for 3 years for an enormous sum of money.
This book was addictive, entertaining and just creatively brilliant.
It mainly follows 4 couples, with some side characters. It was definitely a lot of people but the author's note at the beginning prepared me, so I armed my self with notes which helped immensely.
Volume One ends in a cliffhanger so you'll need to continue. But don't worry, I guarantee you'll want to continue.
3.25-3.5⭐️Completely ridiculous and unrealistic, yet I was so intrigued by the concept of the book, that I couldn’t stop listening it, even though I am well aware of how absurd the plot is. 🫣
Imagine a cliche, predictable Hallmark movie, but instead of the cheesy plot and sweet characters, here you have 4 women who are being auctioned to billionaires in search of a wife. The fmc’s are required to enter a marriage of convenience with the men who won them at the auction and stay married to them for a period of 3 years. Still cheesy af, but a different kind of cheesy. Ya know?😌😏
Here is a short summary of all the women:
- Faith, a young woman who is on the run from her obsessed, vicious ex fiancé who is also a mafia type of guy in Vegas. She decides to enter the auction for money and in the hopes of finding a powerful man who can protect her from him.
- Ruby, she has been s*xually abused from a young age by the men brought home by her mother. She ends up becoming a jaded stripper who doesn’t believe in love, only in the security of money and so she needs the cash to get a better life for her and her sister.
- The sisters Dakota and Savannah, enter the auction to get enough money to pay their massive debts acquired by their father and save their ranch. Their lives at home are harsh because of their alcoholic, abusing father.
For the first half of the book, I was hooked, I couldn’t wait to see what happens next, who they end up with and so on, but the second half was dull. It was too instalovey and I wasn’t interested in some of the couples at all, so I ended up skipping some povs.
Also, why would handsome, rich billionaires pay millions of dollars for a wife who is basically a stranger to them, when they could have any beautiful woman they wanted, for free? At least give them a good reason for going to such lengths to find a wife. 😅 But…forget common sense…that’s not why we read fictional romance.🙂↔️
What I didn’t like:
- The way Ruby was ok with being wooed by both of the twin brothers, even though she said from the beginning that she didn’t want a player like Noah. And I get that she went through so much, but this girl had only money on her mind. She came off as some bimbo who would go to any lengths for money.
- How Savannah just up and leaves the love of her life to enter the auction even though Dakota said that it wasn’t necessary and didn’t want her to ruin her life as well. With words she said that she loved her high school sweetheart and feels so bad for breaking his heart, but her actions said something completely different. She is instantly attracted to her future husband and constantly tells us how hot he is. Ugh I hate disloyal bitches.🫠
- The way Joel was infatuated with Faith from the moment he first layed eyes on her and called her a goddess sent to him by his dead wife as a gift or something. Ugh…the whole thing was weird.
My favorite couple was Sutton and Dakota, they were great together, both of them so fiery! 🔥🤌
I only chose this because of the Kindle Challenge. I am completely baffled on how this made the Amazon Editor’s Best of the Year list. This was a ridiculous book. It almost felt satirical. It was entertaining in a kitschy way. It seemed like the author just wanted to test the limits of the plot. There were some humorous moments. I was thrown off by “the scummy hotelier” and his mob boss antics. There were plenty of steamy moments, but they were very unsexy to me. The basic premise of these extremely wealthy businessmen buying poor American women in an auction was just so over the top. Why would these men pay millions of dollars to buy a trailer trash wife that they’ve never met before? And they all fell in love with no friction. It was so silly that I just had to see how it would turn out. Somehow this was only volume one. I will not be rushing to read any additional volumes.
22. prosince prohlašuji tuhle knihu za nejlepší za rok 2024. Hned bych šla znovu nalistovat prolog a začala znovu. Chce se mi brečet, že už to skončilo a já nemám další díl. Takhle otevřený konec jsem asi v životě nečetla.
5/5 za dokonalou dynamiku všech postav, originální zápletku, vážná témata, romantiku, krásný styl psání, krátké kapitoly, sympatické postavy a dokonale napsané intimní scény. Nemám jedinou věc, kterou bych vytkla. Jen to, že je to moc krátké a bez dalšího přeloženého dílu!!!
This book was severely unbalanced. Some POVs were SO boring, while one’s was just packed with drama. Maybe things will balance out later, but any POV that wasn’t Faith’s was just boring. Unless you count that Dakota’s POV made me feel extremely uncomfortable with Sutton’s behavior.
I expected there to be at least ONE queer relationship, but there were none. Now I want there to be at least one relationship that ends in divorce after the three years, because how likely is it that you end up staying with a guy for life when you only stayed for his money?
Sutton, who is supposed to be Dakota’s “love interest,” is SO creepy and possessive, when I think he’s meant to be portrayed as just a thoughtful, sometimes jealous kuntry-folk. He constantly compares her to an animal that needs to be tamed, even sexually assaulting her by giving her oral while she slept, even if it was to “wake her.” People CANNOT CONSENT WHEN THEY’RE ASLEEP!!!
Not to mention the fact that Noah’s and Nile’s VAs made me want to punch them. They just sounded so smarmy! I hope Ruby doesn’t end up with them.
The abrupt ending that made it feel like chapters were missing made it obvious that it was a longer work cut into little pieces, instead of four different works that could stand on their own as good stories with different arcs.
Loved the concept and the characters. As it’s only the first of 4 books (and a novella) I don’t want to say it’s all really fast for the characters, it just feels/ seems like it I think for the writing style as it was originally a serial I believe. You follow about 8 characters, taking turns with povs. Looking for award to getting the rest of the series next paycheck.
I just finished The Marriage Auction by @audreycarlan and OH MY GOODNESS THAT CLIFF. You GUYS…… I have never binged something harder and subsequently wanted the rest of the books. If you love, Love is Blind, The Bachelor, and alllll of the romance troupes, this is 100% for you.
The Marriage Auction is where women and men willingly sign up to become a persons spouse in exchange for money. At first, I was very skeptical. I’m not one to usually go for the Bachelor or those shows, but Audrey has done a FANTASTIC job at making each plot and romance their own. I’m giving book one 4 ⭐️ absolutely. This is such a fun read and I can’t wait to continue on with the series. The possessive males, but in the bestttt ways, the spitfire women, secrets, trauma, and coming into your own can all be found in this fun world.
What worked well for this book: I loved the different couple troupes on this. You literally get the best of all worlds here. The men are complex and mysterious, as are the secrets the women have for signing up for the auction. You literally are on the edge of your seat with each chapter.
What I would have liked to see different: I almost didn’t push through the initial 5 chapters. I’m so so so pleased I did, but full transparency, the characters felt so stereotypical at times it felt cringy. The independent Cowgirl, the white trash stripper, the smart Asian, the sports star black man, the Italian girl running from her past with organized crime. I am GLAD Audrey didn’t keep that theme in the remainder of the book and gave them their own personality touches, but push through friends, it’s worth it.
Thank you 1001 Dark Nights and Blue Box Press for an ARC copy for an honest review.
If I wasn't trying to finish a Kindle Challenge on such a narrow timeframe, I wouldn't have picked this up and certainly would have just DNFed. This was not for me at all.
First off, the premise was absolutely unbelievable but whatever, right? I can live with that. However, the multiple POV messed up with the flow of the story—because of the constant switching between different couples—and also repetitive because the scenes/parts are being told from different POVs which means you have to read the same happenings again and again. In my opinion, multiple POVs are a hit or miss because, as I have mentioned, it can mess with the flow and if not done right, the characters won't be established well which makes it harder for the readers to connect to them. I also find the dialogues in this one cringey and rehearsed/unnatural.
This was just bad. I'm sorry to say this was a dud, for me.

What a wild and entertaining hold onto the seat of your pants read! In the beginning the author mentioned that there were many characters but that it would work – I took this to heart and am glad I did read it and stick it out – because it was 100% worth it. While I only read season 1, I can’t wait to get my hands on seasons 2-4 which are also out now! This was a marvelous 5 star read for me.
Thank you to @getredprbooks, @audreyclan and the publisher @1001darknights_blueboxpress for my ARC in exchange for this review.
The Marriage Auction is absolute gold and let me tell you, I am hooked. This story is intriguing because each person has a different reason for entering the auction to change their life for the better and I need to know everything! Audrey has done it again with show stopping characters that I am obsessed with! They have my full attention and I like each of them for different reasons! The story has something for everyone because it’s full of passion, hilarious moments, rivalry, desire and love! I can’t wait to see how this all turns out!
This was a new experience with this author. I found it refreshing, enchanting and easy to fall for the characters. Having read it on Vella, I will be buying the rest of the series. I found the premise intriguing and couldn’t stop reading. The story seemed to flow effortlessly and I was engaged immediately.

Memorable Quotes: Hopefully whoever chose me, if I was chosen, would allow me regular contact with my family. These men were vetted as intensely as every candidate being put up for auction. And the best part? My secret would never be discovered, as no record of it existed. I’d ensured that fact by losing a part of my soul. A part I never wanted back. As long as I could catch the eye of a willing bidder, I had the power to generate a minimum of one million dollars per year. A deposit of $250,000 would be delivered in good faith the night of the auction. And if the bidding went higher than three million, I and those I cherished most would be set for the rest of our lives—with enough money to disappear.
“No!” I shook my head desperately. “I’m not ready…!!!” I begged, and then searing pain shot from between my thighs. Stars flickered across my vision as the attendant continued, pulling the other side of my bikini line. Just as I thought I might actually pass out, another strip was ripped over my anus, and, without even realizing it, I sat up, and cold-clocked the technician right in the cheekbone. She screeched in horror and fell to the floor as my vision wavered in and out. Savannah came around the side just as I lost consciousness.
My rating: 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟💍💍💎💍💍👰♂️👰🏼♀️
My thoughts:🔖Page 122 of 324 Episode 18 Ruby in the Sky with Diamonds 💎 RUBY - This is pretty interesting, there are a few tropes I'm rolling my eyes at but it has my attention. 🔖164 Episode 23 This Man’s Wife 💎 DAKOTA - This is like a nighttime soap opera. I think I'm going to enjoy this series.
I planned on taking a break after 2 books but now I'm not sure if I can. This is like a television series and very bingeable, and if each book is going to end like that I'll need to go on immediately.

The Marriage Auction is a compendium of those “episodic” releases. This is book one of four, which is a continuous story. And man, am I hooked in. I love every character individually, and then as couples they’re even better. The swoon factor is at an absolute 10, even though there’s so much story to go.
But what truly knocked this out of the park was the ensemble narration. When I say I’m obsessed… I can’t even explain the chokehold this book had on me. I immediately downloaded book 2. I can’t wait for more!
⭐️ 3.5 Tropes: - Enemies to Lovers - Forbidden Romance - Dark Secrets - Soulmates - Auction, I feel like this one is obvious
This book was interesting. I absolutely would have DNFed after the first part of the book, due to nothing really grabbing my attention, if my mom hadn’t told me to keep going. By the end of the book I was hollering.
🌶️ 2 - one, small scene
The characters, 3.5/5. I honestly went back and forth with liking some of the girls…and the guys. I absolutely love Faith and Savannah. Ruby is definitely smarter than she’s giving herself credit and Dakota was just a pain the booty. I love Joel (he’s my favorite). I love Noah. Erik is kind of off to me but I hate Nile and Sutton.
Then I got to the end. I absolutely love Sutton! I still hate Nile though. He’s alright, just not my cup of tea. Overall, theses characters go through a lot from start to finish and I thought they played out nicely.
The plot, 3.5/5. This one was super hard for me to rate. I absolutely lode the ending of the book and how everyone get the ball rolling in their relationships. However, the beginning of this book was lackluster. I didn’t really have anything that pulled me in, but I’m glad I kept reading. There’s no doubt in my mind that I will enjoy the next book.
I absolutely fell in love with these stories!! The variety of different POVs and you just get so invested with each character. The story just sucks you in that it's hard to put down.
Thank you @getredprbooks for a copy of this book. Warning: this book leaves you wanting to read the next book immediately. This book sets the stage for women that was auctioned off for marriage to a stranger for millions of dollars. I am so vested in each of the characters and their pairings. I can't wait to read the next installment.
Totally hooked. This is a little different because we're following 4 couples so it's different from the usual series where each book focuses on one couple. Looks like I'm moving on to book 2. Narration is very good and I am also reading the ebook when the Narration is too slow. Audio and ebook both included in my Kindle unlimited subscription.
Okay that was so stupid but I’m like hooked? I need to know what happens next even if this writing is so random and stupid at times 😂 forgot to add the worst quote from this book “his eyes were a mixture of melted caramel and newly grown grass” sooo stupid but I gotta follow what the hell these couples are up to. Feels like a reality tv show
I’m sorry I couldn’t do it I had to bail…the plot and characters were absurd even for me, although I am biased bc one of the narrators sounded like Count Dracula from hotel Transylvania when listening at 1.5 speed and half the women had southern accents that just didn’t fit for me
