Seasons Quartet #1

Season of Desire: Complete Edition

Rate this book
A story of passion, desire and fierce emotion, the first in the new Seasons Quartet is the must-read for all fans of Sadie Matthews' After Dark series, and will win her legions of new ones.

Freya Hammond is used to people fulfilling her every whim. Wealthy and spoiled, she lives a butterfly existence of fashion and parties and is accustomed to getting her own way. Which is why the new bodyguard is riling her. Miles Murray is ex-SAS and obeys her instructions with barely repressed scorn. She can sense that he doesn't think much of her.

The Hammonds have been staying at their luxurious retreat high in the Alps. Now Miles is driving Freya to the airport but the rapidly worsening weather and a near-miss with a dangerously driven jeep causes him to lose control, and sends the car plummeting off the side of the mountain.

When Freya comes to, she is lying on the freezing ground, Miles beside her. The car is a mangled mess far below them. Now Freya needs Miles to save her life. Using all his survival skills, Miles manages to locate an old shepherd's hut and get them both there despite Freya's twisted ankle. Rescue will surely come before too long... but until then Freya is no longer in control. The tension between them is soon at fever pitch as she tries to dominate a man who no longer obeys her orders.

And when rescue does come, how will they return to their old life of mistress and bodyguard after what has happened between them?

**I won this book as part of a first reads**

This is my first Sadie Matthews book. I have wanted to read her After Dark series for quite some time, but hadn't got around to it as yet. I had heard really good things about it, so was really excited to have won this first part in her latest series.
Freya Hammond comes from an extremely wealthy family. She is beautiful, spoilt and used to everyone jumping at her every whim and command.
Miles Murray is her assigned bodyguard. He is ex-SAS and obviously good at his job. Yet, he is not happy at having to follow the crazy orders of a spoilt, rich girl. Especially when he is ordered to drive through dangerous conditions, to get Freya to the airport on time.
After he loses control of the car on the mountain lanes in the snow and ice. The car plummets off the side of a mountain. Through some stroke of luck they manage to escape countless, near misses and fate seems to be in their favour, as they find a shepherds hut in the middle of nowhere.
So starts a couple of days of being stranded in this tiny cottage in freezing temperatures, with only each other for company. After some horrid arguments, it's obvious there is a lot of tension between them. Some of it is quite heated. It's obvious they are going to act on the attraction between them. So begins a kind of odd yet very hot arrangement between the two of them. An arrangement that is only for while hey are stuck in the hut. Once they are rescued, if they are rescued. Life will resume as normal. It doesn't take long for them to realise the arrangement works amazingly well for them.
So after a couple of days, they are rescued and brought back to real life. Yet, the real hard work and survival techniques come in to play now. It's quite intense when they are back, wondering what they will do. I won't spoil it by detailing it any further. What I will say is, It was fantastic!
I started off disliking Freja immensely. She was childish and juvenile. Her whole attitude didn't seem real. It was so spoilt and rude, it was cringeworthy. Yet it only took a few chapters and she seemed to settle down. By half way through the book, I really liked her. She had quite a nasty past event, that may explain some of why she was, the way she was.
Miles was also hard to read. Playing his bodyguard role perfectly, yet when another side of his come out, that was a very pleasant surprise. By the end, he was perfect leading man material!!
The final third of the book took a different turn altogether, the pace was faster and the story line was really intense and gripping. I really started to become hooked to every word by then. The ending was perfect, but I didn't want it to stop, I felt like it needed to continue. I know that there is another book after this one, but it's Freja's younger sister Flora's story. I think some of what was left from this one is intermingled with Flora's story from what I can tell.
So, loved this book. Great writing and totally new and intriguing story. Can't wait for book 2 and I'm off to find more by this author.

I had been wanting to read this series for a long time, so I was thrilled when I received a copy that contained the whole story. The story centres around Freya who to start with acted spoilt and wanted everything even though she could not have it, it became clear that it was how she was bought up. It would also explain the wall she built around herself so people can't get in. The first chapter of Season of Desire had a lot of action and lot of big impact moments hat would affect the story and both the main characters as well.

Along with Freya, there is Miles who is Freya's new bodyguard, one who is definitely not like the others, being ex-SAS he is trained to take orders so when he tries to follow what Freya asks of him, though that soon turns out to be a bad choice. When the weather forces them both into a situation that neither of them expected, dislike soon turns into passion, one that they can't resist.

As they become closer together their lust for each other is undeniable, though they are still stranding in the middle of nowhere, hoping to get rescued when the weather lets up if it ever does. Although, getting rescued is the least of their problems, their lives will never be the same upon reflection about what happened in the time they spent together and how it changed them.

They both have something to lose when it comes to being together, it just the case of are they really willing to risk it all for each other. There are many aspects that they have to consider if they want to be together, they are both so different from each other, even if they want to be together would the people in their lives allow them to have their happiness, especially Freya's family who will do anything to make sure they are not together in the end.

Season of Desire is a passionate love story between a rich woman and the bodyguard who is paid to protect her. All it took was one wrong move for them to see what they have been missing in their lives, with it's drama, lust, sexual contain and love it is a perfect addition to any bookshelf.

If I had to sum this book up in three words, they would be Thrilling, Marvellous and Enthralling.

Won a copy through a Goodreads giveaway.

I'd already read Matthews' After Dark trilogy and enjoyed that immensely. So naturally I was rather intrigued as to where this series would go.

The book follows globe trotting twenty something, Freya Hammond and the book is from her POV. She lives in her family's mountain luxury pad with her overprotective and oppressive father. She wants to take a break and fly to LA but Mother Nature intervenes and leaves her and her bodyguard, Miles, stranded in a shepherd's hut surrounded by snow.

This is when things begin to heat up and they heat up fast! From there we travel across every twist and turn in this multi lineal story. I liked the theme following Freya's trial and tribulations about living with the media. In these kind of books it's invariably the male protagonist that is the famous one and deals with the pressures of the he press. Having the female slip into that role was very refreshing.

I wouldn't want to spoil the story any further so I'll leave that there.

For readers of the After Dark series, Dominic (who happens to be friends with Miles) and Beth make a heartwarming appearance.

If you are a fan of Fifty Shades or similar, I'm sure you'd enjoy this book. Matthews' has an easy writing style that makes her books fast paced whilst being captivating and sexy.

Looking forward to the continuing parts. Hope there not too far away!

I won this book on goodreads and although it's not the type of thing I'd usually read I was excited by the description. Although it has an air of 50 Shades in it, mainly the annoying use of 'my sex' instead of just vagina, the similarities luckily end there. It is a very well written book, fantastic use of descriptive language and the sex scenes are believable. The story is a bit fantastical for my personal liking but the characters are very relatable and I found myself routing for the main characters and their romance. A great easy read (I managed to read it in around 3 hours) and a delightful way to take your mind off things. Thank you for the book!

To read this book you need to read the After dark series as Beth and Dominc have a cameo, great read loved Freya and Miles.

Freya is a spoilt rich kid and her demands are normally met until she meets Miles {the dreamy scottish} bodyguard, she treats him how she treats everyone else until she needs him when they run off the road, she tells him things she has never told her sisters, her father or therapists, now he is the one in control and Freya is reluctant to let him be at first

Sadie is a great writer and was hooked from the start, follow her on twitter to find out about more upcoming books

Despite some cliches, the author writes well, his characters are well crafted, charismatic and managed to arrest me with your story. She knew well dosed suspense, action, romance and even racier scenes. It was all well and worked as expected for this type of plot.

My only caveat was by the book size. I think the author could have summarized a few things, so I would not have found that some parts were washed away. But nothing to get me the desire to read the book and get to your outcome. And this outcome since the author makes a hook to the next.

I really liked the story and I will want to read the next book in the trilogy and recommend it to everyone who enjoys hot books, well written.

Aside from the deliciously pornographic sex scenes this book actually had a half decent story, so much so that I'm actually rather keen to read the other books in the series and see how the story plays out.

Graphic and highly-charged sexual imagery throughout, but with descriptive scenery and viable characters.

I enjoyed this book far more than I originally anticipated.

Far better written and with more of a storyline than 50 Shades!

This is superbly written and is much more than romantic erotica. Throughout the book you see the young, spoiled brat grow and learn how to be an adult. The interaction with characters flows smoothly and there are some interesting twists to the underlying story line. Definitely an 18+ book and enjoyable with it

I actually adored Miles and the role-playing alpha male stuff. Freya is a tad annoying but her heart of gold soon breaks through the necessary barriers she has in place. Not particularly life changing but a nice piece of escapism
