I never thought my life would take a turn into the world of murder mysteries, but here I am, Ophelia Pane, vampire veterinarian extraordinaire, caught in the middle of a deadly game of cat and mouse... or should I say parrot and vampire?
As I struggle to juggle my overflowing clinic of fur babies and mythical creatures, a simple house call to check in on a chatty parrot named Elvis turns into a nightmare when I stumble upon his owner’s lifeless body. I must be cursed with bad timing and paranormal shenanigans, because while I’m still frozen in shock, Detective Ryder Wolff shows up at the crime scene… and suddenly I’m a prime murder suspect. Deciding I better uncover the truth if I want to avoid ending up in an orange jumpsuit, I team up with a big-hearted pixie, a troll with a knack for numbers, and a chatty parrot who just doesn’t know when to shut up.
Things take a dangerous turn, and it isn’t long before the killer is breathing down my neck. Yes, I know breathing down necks is kind of a vampire’s main gig… but let’s be real, it’s downright creepy. As the bodies start piling up and the stakes get higher, I can’t help but wonder if I’ll be able to crack the case before it’s too late.
This is a clean paranormal cozy mystery series with a side of humor, that features a vampire veterinarian who stumbles into trouble while trying to take care of her patients... those of the normal and the supernatural variety.

----- This cutie pie cozy series is off to a good start. If you love cozy mysteries, this is for you. If you love cozy paranormal, this is for you. This quick read is the first in a series and I must say that I am intrigued enough to continue the series when the next book comes out. I find the characters interesting and adorable. I will say that they are quite flat and "one note". I hope that they are able to grow and become more multi-dimensional as the series progresses. I like all of the animals and side characters as well. Byrd the bat does not one single thing aside from pester people and sleep and I think he is my spirit animal. LOL Give this a try. It give rainy afternoon vibes.
I want to say I really enjoyed this but I don't think it quite loved up to the expectations. The start had me really hooked and I thought I had a new favourite series but somewhere in the middle I started to lose interest. The story slowed down and I think I got fed up hearing how she sucked down another blood box. Yes I know it's better than biting necks but one minute she is staving, the next she has another box, which to be honest only served to remind the listener that the main character was a vampire and had nothing to do with the murder. I also wish the vet clinic or more important the animals especially the parrot had a bigger role, as this is where most of the humour came from. The mystery side of the story did throw a up a few surprises and I was only partly right with who the killer was. The author had a lot of fun with the names and there is a lot puns or play on words there. I would probably listen to the next book in the series just because I think the series has potential as the characters grow. Owning your own vet practice that operates at night is perfect for vampire owner Ophelia and her super natural clients. What's not so great is when it's set in a human town that don't know about the high ratio of super naturals living amongst them, the burglaries that are hitting the small shops or being at every pet owner's beck and call. One of those clients is the owner of a talking parrot but when Ophelia phones the worried owner to give her the result her she can't get a hold of her. Worried Ophelia decided to make a personal visit, especially as the woman was so worried she had argued with the vet tec earlier and now not to answer seems strange. Ophelia stumbles over her dead body and clues her tec could be more involved than she would like. Rather than point the police in vet tec direction Ophelia decides to investigate herself. The more she does the more she learns that the lady and her loud parrot were not well liked and she will have to use her vampire skills to solve the murder. The story had two narrators, the female did most of the reading but when ever a man spoke the male half of the team would talk. This was unusual for an audio book but somehow they made it work and I enjoyed there performance.
I’ve always been a fan of Sedona’s work from my first Klutz-y read but I wasn’t sure what to expect from this series as it wasn’t the romance I’m used to and had a co-author I had never read before but I was not disappointed. I love the way this story set the stage for the rest of the series to come. You’re introduced to Lia and her chaotic vet clinic where paranormal and normal creatures can both be treated. Along the way you learn more about the town, the mythical and Lia’s nosey nature and how it lands her right in the middle of a murder investigation. This book appears to be easing you into Lia’s life so you can tail her on cases that she will inevitably fall into alongside her hunky detective friend. I won’t be upset if Sedona’s steamier side makes an appearance for these two at some point either. The only thing I really struggled with was the past tense narration. I don’t know why this threw me off so much but it really made it hard to distinguish between when Lia was reflecting vs in the moment. Otherwise I loved everything about the writing, the cute naming of characters and the adorable sidekicks were plentiful. Can’t wait to start the next one!
Not only do most of these books get narrated by females with the most excitable, high pitch, overly dramatic and grating voices, they all sound the same! It's so bad that I am automatically turned-off from ALL cozy mysteries that are not read with a British accent. I have found the narrators with British accents (real ones) are calmer in their reads.
Why make this book about a vampire if you are going to make her one of the stupidest and weakest vampires? Maybe it was my frame of mind, but I instantly started to roll my eyes when she went through the whole dark alley, weak vampire transformation to avoid being caught. Where was vampire speed?
Then gets caught by the police in a dead person's house after tripping over said dead person in the dark, even though vampires are supposed to have excellent night vision and she should have heard the cops coming from a mile away.
If you are looking for a quick cozy mystery with very silly humour, a vampire who is basically a human with compulsion and characters with names like Justin Case and Polly Ester, this is your book. Everyone else, keep on looking!
As soon as I read the blurb for Feathers and Fatalities I knew I needed to get my hands on the ARC copy.
I’m usually a romance and/or fantasy reader but the idea of a Vampire Veterinarian solving mysteries intrigued me. Although this book is short, it created a fun read. I did predict elements of the mystery but I didn’t known the full scope and enjoyed the journey towards the end. There is the opportunity for character development and depth to be created going forward (I know book 2 is already in the works) and I’m curious how that will shape up.
Ophelia Pane , vampire veterinarian and her new found furry sidekick … not Polly , that would be too predictable….so anyway Elvis the parrot isn’t squawking, at least not to Polly , her owner. Tests show it’s the diet that’s the problem but there’s an even bigger one looming and it’s the stuff of nightmares….well it has all the ingredients for a day with mythical creatures and more. It’s an immersive , fun paranormal mystery that has you reading past bedtime. Great story , perfect prose and on the nose descriptions that peak the interest and keep you invested to conclusion . I read an advance o& this great book and I’m leaving my review voluntarily in my own words.
OMG 😱 this was a great book. I was drawn as I was reading the first page and I was hooked. I was on the edge of my seat and I couldn’t even put it down. This was a fun read and the suspense was fantastic. Ophelia Pane was a vampire veterinarian and a parrot name Polly. What else is going to happen next for them and their journey. It was a twists and turns in their lives. I absolutely loved it and I can’t wait until the next book. I definitely recommend this book and you won’t be disappointed. I received advance copy of this book via Bookfunnel and am voluntarily leaving my honest opinion. Trina Jones
Feathers and Fatalities by Sedona Jade is a super cozy mystery with a lovely female main character. She is unusual for this sort of mystery novels and I love that. Ophelia is a veterinarian, but as she a vampire she has other office hours and also other clients. It is a great spin on cozy mystery novels, because of course Ophelia can’t resist finding out who the murderer is when someone is murdered. She is a great character and I love how she thinks. The writing style is flowing and there is enough mystery to keep on reading.
I found this really a gem in all the cozy mystery novels and I can definitely recommend this book. I enjoyed reading it a lot!
An amazing, cozy supernatural mystery with a bit of added corniness. I just love the names of some of the characters. They absolutely made me snicker and laugh out loud. The dynamic between Detective Ryder and Ophelia is sweet with a very slow burn. Who knows if they will follow the attraction in the next story or if it will be several stories down the road but it is definitely there. And the plot twists… yes, I am being vague but only because I don’t want to ruin the story.
This was such a fantastic read. Everything the author promises she delivers. The story was well written with unique characters. I loved Lia and her pet bat Byrd. My favourite part of this story is that Lia isn't your typical vampire character. Lia's not aggressive and isn't waiting to bite someone's face off with her fangs. She's sweet but curious. As we all know curiosity killed the cat and might just kill a vampire too!
I can't wait to see where this goes with the rest of the series.
What a fun read! The story line is adorable with an adorable vampire vet who keeps finding herself in sticky situations. I truly enjoyed the ride with her as she stumbles her way through the mystery. I also got a giggle out of a lot of the names. Justin Case (just in case), Tim Berr (timber). Ophelia Pain (oh I feel your pain) to name a few. It’s a cozy mystery with giggle worthy moments that I truly enjoyed. The narrators nailed it and are phenomenal. Truly can’t go wrong with them!
Who doesn't love a good paranormal cozy mystery? I really enjoyed the world building in this book and the idea of a vampire veterinarian! It felt really original to me and pulled me in right away. The mystery was compelling, but honestly I was mostly invested because of all the interesting characters the author created. Ryder is intriguing and Bree was fun, I cannot wait to learn more about them in the next book!
i received this book as an ARC. I am very thankful i was able to receive this book as an arc. there will be no spoilers in my review. the banter was epic, i was hooked in within the first few pages. i throughly enjoyed this book and couldn’t believe i finished it in one sitting. cant wait for book 2!
This book had me right from the start! A vampire who is a vet, with a bat basically as a pet? Sign me up please! The characters are amazing - from humans to trolls, parrots, werewolves and pixies! Throw in a murder mystery that the FMC is running around trying to solve and the pesky hunky human detective that she keeps running into and this is just a hit! Love, Love, Love!
It was a bit slow for me to get into as it felt quite young…but I still really enjoyed it. The names had me giggling (Justin case, Bess case, Tim burr, etc.). I did enjoy this cozy mystery!
The last like 25% had me hooked though! It was so fun and twists I didn’t expect! I’m actually excited for the next book and hopefully lots more Detective Ryder & his Frenchie 🥰
Oh my goodness, this book is amazing. I loved it. I work in vet med and wish I could work with paranormal patients. That would be so cool. This book is about a vampire vet and a series of mysterious events including a murder or two. If you love mysteries and paranormals this is definitely the book for you.
Feathers and Fatalities is a clean, paranormal cozy mystery series that offers humor and heart. Sedona Jade has crafted a charming tale that will appeal not only to mystery lovers but also to fans of paranormal fiction. If you’re looking for a fun, fast-paced read with a unique twist, this book is definitely worth adding to your collection.
Lia is a vampire vet, a pixie named Bree as a vet tech a bat called Byrd, and a parrot named Elvis. Murders, robberies and a cosy mystery, what more could you want. An enjoyable read with a slow burn romance. If you enjoy a bit of sass you have to read this book.
Hilariously fun. The punny names gave me a real chuckle. Fast paced and kept me interested the whole time.
The narrator, Bridget delivered the lines perfectly. she really does comedy well. And I had a good giggle every time Jake would randomly pop up as a male voice.
5 Star - Couldn't put this book down. Its stay up late reading and be late to work good. 4 Stars - Couldn't put this book down but I still got a goodnights sleep 3 Stars - An enjoyable read that took me a few days to a week finish 2 Stars - An okay book that I struggled to get through in places - next book is still on my TBR list 1 Stars - DNF
Cozy, supernatural mystery book!! Loved this lighthearted but intriguing book, the characters were amazing and I felt as though I could really dive in and explore the book through the story telling! Would recommend to anyone who loves a bit of mystery and a bit of cozyness 🫶🏼
This was such a fun read, I loved the idea of this series, a vampire vet investigating a murder! Throw in a sexy policeman who may or may not be a paranormal and it's a great combination. Looking forward to reading more in this series.
The character names really irritated me...Justin Case, Polly Ester. Slap stick humor. No action, poor character development. Was boring. It might be funny for a middle school kid.
This was a cute fast read for me. I like the fmc. This book is about a vampire veterinarian who handles animals and paranormals. Some things happen, and she decides to try to solve the mysteries herself.
This is a fun and easy read with a main character that has just the right amount of development and strife. Sometimes you just need something light and enjoyable and this hits the mark brilliantly
I really liked this book, it was funny, serious at times and all together a good read. If you like great characters and animals then this is a must read.
