"A Deal for the Earl’s Love" is a historical romance novel of approximately 60,000 words. No cheating, no cliffhangers, and a guaranteed happily ever after.
This was different; think a cowboy becomes an aristocrat. The main characters are likeable and their relationship well developed. Naturally, the stilted and programmed ways of the English titled gentry is a challenge for the H and the h becomes his tutor. It is interesting that he has as much influence on her as she on him. She realizes he is a stronger gentleman than many ton members and is much more honest. It was disappointing that her family rapidly believed a made up rumor about the H and chose to believe it without any confrontation or verification; her brother, fortunately, had more sense. Had the H not stood up to this reputation assassination, the h would have been forced into a marriage with a truly despicable man. He clarified, they apologized, he and h married and earned their HEA.
This is a sweet, clean, enjoyable read. Most of the characters are engaging and somewhat lovable. Dawson Murphy is a cowboy in Kentucky when he receives news that his uncle has died and he is now the new earl. He has been having some troubles so decided to move to England. His new neighbor, Lady Amelia helps him understand what is expected of him, with the blessings of her parents. Lady Amelia thinks she is in love with someone, but eventually figures out that he only cares about her money. Dawson takes care of Silas in the end, and it is quite comical when he discovers where Silas and his mother are living. Good ending.
This story seemed a little slow for me and not too much that seemed to really hold my attention. A rancher moving from Kentucky to England to receive an inheritance with the title of Earl from an Uncle who passed away seemed like an interesting idea. There is jealousy, snobbery, blackmail and of course, love in this story for more than the main characters. It is a clean story with a few mistakes where Roxanna, is initially introduced as Dawson's cousin. However a few times in the story when she is mentioned, she is called sister.
The only thing that kept me from giving this a 5 out of 5 stars is the typos. I really enjoyed this book. There was no use of the Lord's name in vain. There was a clear timeline stating where the characters were and what approximate date in time. Each character had their own personality. Each character got what they deserved in the end. Some of them even got some things they didn't deserve throughout the book. The EE made sense and wrapped up the book nicely.
This is an enjoyable, clean love story with no surprises. The characters are very engaging and somewhat loveable. Coming from Kentucky to England was quite a culture shock for the new Earl, Dawson Murphy. With the help of his neighbor, Lady Amelia, he began to understand what was expected of him. If it wasn't for Silas everything would have been smooth sailing. He through a rench in the pot. Very enjoyable read!
I was confused at the beginning, because at first there was a cousin, then a sister. This happened several times. But all in all I really enjoyed this book and its characters.
I haven't enjoyed it as well as this for a while. It's totally different but enjoyable, with all the elements of good and bad battling it out. If I had to give marks, it would be 10 out of ten.
Not even a nod to historical accuracy. No female from the aristocracy would ever visit a gentleman without a chaperone for any reason! This was another story with no research, silly characters and a ridiculous plot.
There were some editing mistakes that were a little irritating. The heroine thinks she loves someone her family disapproves of. The hero is the next door neighbor who needs help navigating English society as he is an American rancher who inherits the title and all that goes with it. Together they work on his mastery of the social rules. Then there comes a little obstacle to their growing attachment. It was a good read without too much drama.
