But is he really dead?

It’s February and business is booming at The Laughing Loaf Bakery. Gracie and her assistant Beck plan a menu of special breads and pastries for Valentine’s Day and recruit four eager teenagers with drivers’ licenses to deliver the treats.

When two of the delivery “cupids” find the body of whiz kid software programmer Eddie Sumner on their route, suspicion falls on his boss, Kirk, husband of Gracie’s best friend. On her way to the bakery before dawn the next two mornings, Gracie sees lights on in Eddie’s house, while a shadowy figure moves furniture and rummages through drawers. Since no one else has had access to the house. Gracie begins to wonder if the programmer is really dead. To find out the truth and clear her best friend’s husband, Gracie must find out who killed Eddie Sumner…and what is hiding in his house.

"Proof Of Death" is book #5 in the "Laughing Loaf Bakery" series by Victoria Kazarian.

It was supposed to be all about delicious breads and pastries for Valentine's Day being delivered by teenage "cupids" hired by Laughing Loaf Bakery owner Gracie - until one team of cupids discovered tech programmer Eddie Sumner dead in his garage.

The police don't have a lot to go other than suspecting his boss Kirk who is married to Gracie's best friend Elana. Gracie is trying to let the cops do their job but can't help but be curious about what really happened...

A couple of early clues led me to suspect who was behind the killing and why though getting to the truth and eventual takedown was very well done.

Along the way, there were also subplots involving Gracie's dad John and his "relationship" with girlfriend Mary Jo. Gracie is doing her best to adjust to this side of her dad, but finding it a struggle. John is also doing some physics tutoring. As for Gracie and boyfriend Nate - well things aren't running quite according to plan but it's not for a lack of trying!

I am thoroughly enjoying this series! The core characters are a wonderful blend of ages and backgrounds. Dialogue and banter feels realistic. The bakery and the treats that are served make me hungry! A few recipes are included at the end.

What a really fun way to let the teen regulars at the bakery shine by hiring them to be Gracie’s delivery Cupid service for Valentine surprises bought by customers for their loved ones. Sky was usually so hilarious, but when the poor guy found a dead body, it took him a while to recover. Sky and his delivery partner Dakota teamed up with the police later on for a really cool showdown. The teens were crucial to solving the case.

It was amazing that for once it wasn’t Gracie confronting a killer. Everything worked out as planned, and when the killer was hauled away Gracie and her friends had a fun gathering with the usual friendship, fun and food I always love in a cozy mystery.

Another captivating Cozy Mystery

I assure am glad this series popped up on my Kindle Unlimited subscription. I have enjoyed these stories very much. The Mysteries are easy to read and don’t have too many characters. I look forward to the next book #5.
