Young Rain

Rate this book
Kevin Hart is not only one of Australia's most important poets but a major figure in world poetry. His poetry is at once sensuous and mysterious, visionary yet grounded in the lush, tropical landscapes of Australia. YOUNG RAIN is his first new collection since FLAME SELECTED POEMS (2002). Mark Strand has called his work "elegant, deeply philosophical - Kevin Hart is the best Australian poet of the past 25 years."

This collection of poetry represents a lovely marriage of intuitive, intimate language and formal structure. Most of the poems are blank rather than free verse, though the meter is not fore-fronted in a regimented way. The poems are mysterious (hinting at a greater Mystery) but never frustratingly oblique, in fact I found them quite accessible (as someone who has somehow lost the habit of reading poetry).
