A cozy, high spice romantasy with cottagecore vibes.
Sometimes sleepy village life can be too quiet. Sometimes a quaint circle of friends can be too small. Ana doesn’t want the thrill of an adventure, she just wants one man in the village who hasn’t known her since she was a baby, understands what to do if he gets her clothes off, and who her mother can’t scare away… at least not until after.
Newly arrived in Petalfall, Edric doesn’t want to continue the hermit habits of his predecessor. As the Forest Guardian, he could live here for the next century or more, and fitting in is important to him. He’s always thought the easiest way to do that would be by finding a partner to ease the way… and once he sees Ana, there’s no other choice.
Viggo isn’t dirty, but he is a secret for the moment. People tend to be apprehensive about Vampires—a truth he knows to his cost—and small towns come with small minds. When Edric tells him the plan, he’s open to the idea. When he finds her collecting moon berries at midnight, he’s smitten.
She might be looking for a single night. They want more.
Dalia Davies fell into monster romance--almost by accident--and loves it here. She drinks her weight in tea every day and has been told on numerous occasions that she “knows too much”. She pairs old gods, monsters, and aliens with human women who get exactly what they want and maybe a little more than they came for. Brought up on fairytales read while hiding in the back stacks of her small-town library and sneaking in creature features at friends' homes, she always wanted a way to meld two fantasies into one. When not writing, she plays the banjo poorly, dreams of traveling the world, and avoids large crowds and loud noises. Living in the southwestern US, she lets the outside heat permeate her stories and hopes they leave you panting.
This is, of course, a pen name. It is one of many I write under. You can find my other works as: Andi Simms - Contemporary Romance Ava Lunaria - Paranormal Romance
Was cozy and cute for the most part :) basically Ana meets the new forest guardian, Penny. Penny and Viggo have been in a relationship for the past two decades. When they encounter Ana they realize she fits into their relationship perfectly.
Sometimes I would have wished for a bit more character depth, as their relationship was fast paced. It fit the narrative, but wasn't enough for me to feel with the characters.
The plot is interesting enough but nothing too crazy.
a very fun, cozy & sweet romance with spice as well!
I loved the cozy/magical atmosphere of the town and all the people living amongst it. Ana has her shop for potions with mentions of her troll customers, Edric being the forest guardian was so vivid in my mind. I could just imagine all the beautiful plants and the forest lit up at night by the moon where Viggo meets Ana for the first time. Viggo also just being the most sweet and romantic vamp🥹 there ever was!!!!
just so many magical elements to this story and the characters that I flew through it in one sitting! I think some of the issues with Ana’s mom were played up but also felt like a let down in the end. I was hoping for Ana to really handle that situation & I also didn’t care for Edrics father😅 some elements of the story just felt like filler and made the story a little longer but I cannot wait for book two! I’m super excited to see who we get to read about next (i hope it’s leaf 🤞🏽)

She smacks my hand. “Nonsense, gossip saves lives. What we know about each other is almost as important as what we know about ourselves.”
Udaku ni muhimu.
I enjoyed most of this story. Towards the middle I started getting bored because we were sort of in a holding pattern with dealing with the day to day/having to deal with Staci.
We have small town romance, found family, fantasy/paranormal, parental issues.
We get that apricots are Ana's favourite, but they got mentioned way too much.
There isn't really what I'd call external conflict. It's more of familial relationships conflict.
I absolutely loved that Ana feels like a 29 year old character. I get the need and sense of community but jameni everyone and their grandmother was in love with her. I loved the scene with her sisters in the tent party. If you've been to any family gathering you understand the dynamics of smiling while ticking off things you just know will happen during the event.
I also absolutely LOVED the intricacy that went into the potion shop/the potions. You/I don't know whether it's made up or such actual plants exist but they were written so well.
Almost forgot, Dorian! As I found out this year
So, not bad, not the greatest. I'd love a more compact, faster paced book 2. But if you're looking for an MMF stroll book, this will fit just right.
I LOVE that Penny and Viggo are in an established relationship already. I found this to be such a good part of the romance. Since they are already established and understand each other they both know they want a female partner to join their relationship. Not just join but to adore and love like how they love each other. They connect and get how they want to be with Ana. I loved how Penny was the calm one settling done Viggo, who would have married her in a second.
Ana is older than you see in a lot of romantasy books and I FUCKING LOVED THAT. She turns 30 in this book and I found that to be so important. Not only does she know WHAT she wants but she also has this whole life so it never feels like there is a power dynamic. I love how she has lived with her family and knows how to deal with the difficult situations that come with it. (Her mother is a fucking lunatic TBH)
The world building in this is TOP TIER. I would LOOOOOVVVVEEE to live in Petalfall. Like please sign me up to run a cozy bookstore here.
THE ARTWORK!!!!! OMG. STUNNNNNNING! GORGEOUS!!!! IT ADDED SO MUCH TO THE STORY. Not only did you have this beautiful world being built with words but the art in here!!!!
I will 1000% reread this book. I will also be buying all variations of this book. (paperback, hardcover, special edition) Honestly not only did the author win a lifelong fan-girl in me but the artist who created these gorgeous characters also now has me OBSESSED.
Another thing I find super special is there are at least ten people in this book that I want to know their stories. Including the door.
This book is OUTSTANDING. I can not say enough good things about it.
TFW Your boyfriends boyfriend is your boyfriend too >>>>> 🫡
Honestly this was so smutty and I loved every moment. Really enjoy how it was written since it felt less vulgar with the word choices.
Nothing like a little love story between some lovely fantasy characters. I loved the little world they lived in and the low stakes plot.
Related heavily to the narcissistic parent storyline. And I knew Viggo would be my fav from the get, I was so right 🥵♥️🧛♂️ (a down bad feral bi-king) More please!!!
I went into this thinking it would be a cozy fantasy with spice, but I wouldn’t consider this necessarily cozy since it’s more so just a spicy book with a good amount of plot in a fantasy setting.
I was expecting something else so maybe that’s why I didn’t vibe with this book. Also, it was too insta love for my taste.
I forgot to add that I did love that the author added the illustrations and I think more people should do that. It’s just such a fun addition to the story!
This book was fine, there is definitely an audience out there for it. It's definitely more porn-without-plot which doesn't do it for me personally and a lot of other aspects made it fall flat.
It is described as cozy, which I suppose is true, but I was disappointed about this mostly as I didn't really think it leaned into that trope hard enough. I was hoping for descriptions of food and foraging and things of that sort but there was barely any of that.
It is hard core insta-love and I was just confused as to why? It isn't a fated-mates situation or anything. They just saw her and knew this was someone they would keep forever. That is shallow love as far as I am concerned. They literally admit to wanting to propose on DAY ONE.
I don't get why the mum is the way she is.
Ex machina ending, resolving the issue of her human life span.

Very interesting plot and I really liked the plot twist at the end.
The FMC kinda pno a couple of times with not being more stern with her mom, but I am thoroughly pleased that changed with the FMC's character growing and changing for the most part. also with the power od love UwU
I also love when the MMF couples also have the men as an established couple/lovers since a lot of times it will just be basicaly spit roasting and focused on the woman during the sex/plotline. No hate to those dynamics but it's refreshing when it's an overall lusting for everyone involved.
The overall plot and character development really was nice compared to other smuts and everything ended with a nice HEA bow on it :]
Would re-read and add to my physical collection.

THIS BOOK IS CHONKY AND I LOVED EVERY FREAKING SECOND OF IT. Dalia Davies has me as a reader for life and I love these three so much. The spice in here is delicious. The character's were delightful. I love the NPC's of Petalfall and I just a;lkdjf;lakdf wanna love on all of them (except her mother, but that's for personal reasons <.<). You want a historical feeling, high fantasy that is delightful, whimsical, spicy, and engaging? Read this one!
Also, I believe Dorrian might be my most favorite character 😆 (he’s a sentient - and sentimental - door. He’s a dryad, so really he’s a sentimental, and often sassy, tree spirit trapped in a door)
It’s all the things promised, plus some really horrible family members, and a beautifully wrapped up ending - absolutely perfect for cozy Fall reading! Can’t wait to see what happens in Petalfall next!
A Passion for Potions is a wonderful mix of new and ingenious story telling elements. The characters and species depicted all had their own twist while staying relatable. There are no messy overdramatic plot lines in this, just solid cottage core sexiness with the perfect happily ever after.
4+ stars. Surprising! Solid writing, consistent in the important ways, great world building beautiful poly rainbow romance and sex positive community with all manner of creatures! Colorful characters, sweet dialogue and a whole lot of spice! Plus some unexpected twists. I look forward to more! Like if Katee Robert wrote cozy stories.
Well more spicy than sweet if I’m being honest. The story was nice but the actual plot that was sprinkled in I felt could have been more expanded upon instead of chapters following chapters of spicy times. I’m all for spice but the random tidbits of interesting story development seemed rushed and left me wanting
I love this story and the MM relationship is just as perfect as the MMF. Dalia Davies always delivers in the spicy category, but this was romantic and fun as well 10 out of 10 would recommend.
