In Melbourne for a passing visit for a friend's birthday, Detective Sergeant Nick Vada meets the beautiful Evie Gibson. Twenty four hours later he sits in the lockup of the Victorian police headquarters, arrested for murder.
Detective Sergeant Eli Roberts is brought onto the case to investigate just what would cause the detective to snap and commit such a horrible crime. Detective Joanna Gray is sent in to assist the investigation and soon finds that not all is what it seems.
The Victorian team is sure of Nick's guilt, but a long lost connection between Evie and Melbourne's seedy criminal underworld begins to surface, and Joanna must race against the clock to prove Nick's innocence before he loses his chance at freedom forever..
What a cracking story for our Nick and Joanna, although he really should be careful who he meets in bars and he didn't get to see his mate. It just goes to show you that some forces need to gather all the information first before jumping to conclusions, this could have been very bad for them both, Joanna getting shot was terrible but hopefully she will make a full recovery. As usual I cannot wait for the next book. Well recommended although reading the books in order is the way to go.
A great read with a fast paced twisting plot. I wonder what will happen to Nick and Joanna next? I have thoroughly enjoyed the latest few books in this series.
It's hard to believe that this was published. It's like the author was hassled to write another book quickly and this was the result. The plot is weak and there are numerous grammatical and punctuation errors that a half-decent editor should have corrected. Nick's character becomes increasingly unlikeable as he pursues "justice". Disappointing!
I have read all 8 books following Nick Vada, detective outback series. Wonderful escapism for this Florida gal. Love the plot, characters, pace. Could not recommend this author more! I would love to visit Australia even more but a meme one pointed out there are two dangerous parts to Australia, the land part and the ocean part. Creatures abide in both.
I enjoyed this one a lot- especially because I used to love near St Kilda. As most of Jason’s book, they’re an easy read and enjoyable. Although I picked what happened early there was so much going on in the background that it kept me interested! This would have to be up there with my favourite in the Nick Vada series.
