Ridge Carter’s hockey career might be over but his purpose and passion are reignited when Calliope Porter leaves her oppressed past behind to start fresh in Knox Creek. Some might consider Ridge’s interest to be extreme. He’s just protecting the one he plans to make his. Permanently. And that begins by moving Callie next door…
---

I used to believe the decision to choose didn’t belong to me.

This existence I’m living passes alongside the bars of an invisible cage.
Until one night when there’s a choice for me to take.

The adjustment is a steep incline.
Unknown dangers lurk in every direction.
But those turns are part of my journey, which makes them treasures to cherish.

The most priceless of them all is crossing paths with Ridge Carter.

The former hockey star is intimidating but irresistible.
He’s the opposite of the men I’ve been raised to fear.
Rather than restrain my newfound freedom, he shows me what it means to thrive.
That gives me the courage to wade deeper.

Ridge’s stony exterior rarely cracks, except for me.
He’s different when I’m nearby and I like that. A lot.
It has me seeking him out, but I never have to look far.

Maybe I should question his close proximity that has little to do with him living next door.
I choose to trust instead.
Ridge acts like I’m a bigger score than any goal he made on the ice.
But the experiences he’s giving me are just the beginning.

And once again, a single choice has the power to change everything.

Be prepared to swoon your heart out! Ridge and Callie’s story is one that could melt the coldest of hearts!

Ridge is the perfect hero in every way. He is the silent, sexy, broody protector that Callie didn’t know she needed. He has made it his mission to find a way into her heart and when an opportunity arises he takes it! Their connection is undeniable and a bond soon forms. Their open honesty with each other was so refreshing and helped to quicken their bond. I love that Ridge saw Callie and allowed her to be who she needed to be. He helped to give her strength and only wanted to see her bloom. They both had a deep respect and love for the other.

The heat does take a while to form in the book but once it got going….whew is it HOTT! A great start to summer read to get things heated up!

There's nothing wrong with it; it's just that the lovefest, cheesefest, and all-around fluffiness from the beginning until the end got so boring and cringey after quite some time.

Ridge (31) is too good to be true, and his obsession with Callie (22) was adorable at the start. But since nothing much really is happening here aside from their slowly budding relationship, it became so underwhelming that I ended up skimming some scenes.

I didn't know it would be exhausting to read the MCs enjoying their newly found love, but maaan, it became too much to handle. I can't deal with their lovey-dovey moments anymore. ✋🙅‍♀️ I just want to cry about how they're so freaking whipped; it's not even funny. 😭 Too much of everything isn't good, and apparently that applies to the over-exceeding sweetness here. I've had enough of the poetic and sappy sh*t they kept spewing. I just want it to stop! 🤧

And the only intriguing part that I enjoyed was when Callie's mom escaped their community and her POS husband followed her, only for him to be handled and kicked to the curb by Ridge. 😏 I wish he had knocked some teeth out and left the a-hole with some bruises. The MF needs that kind of beating, but Callie and her mom were too nice to give him a dose of his own medicine. 😑

This is 50 or 100 pages longer than it should've been, imo. Even if some cutesy scenes were cut, I think readers would still enjoy and get the same reading experience from the romance between these two.

The too many to count and remember side characters didn't help either. I think this book is somehow connected to the other series by this author. I lost track of who's who, what their roles are in the story, and their connection with the MCs. 🥴

But I did enjoy Callie's character and how she grew into a more independent and confident person. I love how she truly embraced her freedom and sexuality, thanks to Ridge's help. I had a blast reading her messages; she's so freaking polite and formal, it felt like reading a historical romance novel. 😂 Anyway, she made a lot of progress after she escaped their oppressive community and I'm just truly proud of her. 🥹

As for Ridge, he was okay, I guess. The man was whipped; there was no doubt about it. He said that everything prior to Callie fades into a forgotten heap and nobody else matters. But like I said, he's too good to be true, imo, and OTT romantic when it comes to her. Props to him for staying celibate even though he just got a glimpse of her. 🫡

But I didn't appreciate when he said that every experience he learned before Callie was all meant for her and to satisfy her. Like, eww, gross dude, I don't need to know that you practice a lot with women whom you considered "muted blur that lacked substance in every shape and form". And that now you're going to apply and show all those learnings to your future wife. Just freaking eww, ugh!!! 🤢 I wish this useless info wasn't dropped at all. I don't see the purpose of this aside from the fact that it gave me the ick and pissed the crap out of me. I really, really don't wanna know he has been around; I could do without any subtle reminder. 😤🙄

Overall, idk how to feel about this cuz it's so smooth sailing that it borders on underwhelming (boring, if I'm being frank). It was heavily focused on their slowburn romance, and 374 pages of that were not an enjoyable experience. Anyway, it was meh for me, but might work for others. 🤷‍♀️

Ridge and Callie had my heart from the first page. I love that they both were shy in the beginning to get up the courage to speak to each other. But holy hell did the sparks fly once they did. Ridge is a gentle giant but only for Callie. I loved his term of endearment for her “sweetness” and her term of endearment “boyfriend”. He allowed her to blossom and explore her sexuality and confidence at her pace with no pressure, he encouraged her to be patient with each new step in their sexual relationship and it was beautiful to witness. He didn’t solely care about his pleasure and was intimate with her in other ways than in the bedroom which is a dream man in my opinion. I’m completely jealous of Callie she hit the sexy man lottery and he’s protective, loving and romantic. This book is going to be a best seller and I’m already planning to go back and read it again. You DO NOT want to miss out on the grumpy swoon worthy hockey hunk that is Ridge “Crusher”. On a scale of 1-10 this book was 100/10. Harloe has done it again.

Holy sweetness! The grumpy hockey player turns sweet and swoony, but only for his sunshiney neighbor.

Callie escapes from a compound where she has no voice and is punished if she tires to use it. She finds her way to Knox Creek and eventually, to Ridge. I loved watching her come out of her shell! She grows so much and Ridge helps her along the way. He is super swoony! I love how protective and obsessed he is with Callie. He would and does anything for her. These two just want to make one another happy and it shows. She brings him to life and he shows her how a real man treats a woman.

If you need a book that's low on angst and high in sweetness, look no further! This slow burn, small town, who did this to you book is for you!

I think I read an entirely different book than everyone else…multiple times I wanted to DNF but I paid for this book so I committed to finish. It’s a slow burn in that they say “he waited a whole year to talk to her” and then boom we’re dating. Dialogue felt kind of forced and entirely uncomfortable. The way she goes from not understanding innuendos to whipping them out left and right was startling. And I’m all for a morally great hunk but the vibe just wasn’t there. I think it’s because I couldn’t buy into them as individuals or a couple.

I'm always excited for Harloe's book, and I can say that once again, this book was perfect. Ridge was the perfect male character. He was a grump to everyone, but never to his Callie. To Callie, he was such a sweet and caring man. He was her man, her protector, her everything. He showed her how life was supposed to be lived and how she could be herself. She was her person in every way that counted. I just couldn't get enough of how perfect he was to her. Callie truly stole my heart. She was such a sweet woman who deserved every good thing after her awful past. You could feel her fear and see the effort she did to build a nice life for herself. She explored and saw everything in such a delicate way. The scrapbook she made was truly one of my favorite things in the book. She appreciated and loved her freedom, and that was what made me admire her so much. Ridge and Callie couldn't be more perfect for each other. They shared a pure and special love that was infinite. I just can't express how much I truly love this book. Truly, it's so well written, and Harloe put everything in this book. The chemistry was again extraordinary, and you could see the passion they shared got each other. The epilogue was so cute and the best thing that could happen to these two. They got their happily ever after and I couldn't be happier!

Callie was such a sweetheart! And Ridge has all the alpha-male characteristics we love. Ridge’s protective love gave Callie the confidence to open up into the beautiful woman she wanted to be, and following their story was so satisfying. This book was super spicy, and packed with innuendos. Other things I loved— the lack of 3rd act breakup and that twist towards the end. I’ll never regret reading this authors work and I always highly recommend her!

Nope! I can’t do this one because it’s too cringey to continue. It’s like reading about a child and an adult because she’s so stunted from having lived her whole life on a compound, and he’s like a creepy obsessed stalker.

It’s giving me the heeby jeebies instead of the cuteness vibe everyone else seems to get. Bleh.

Look, sometimes you want to read a book where the guy wants her. From the beginning. No questioning.

Ridge Carter is a former hockey player who's found a new reason. And that reason is Calliope Porter. Calliope has a secret, though, she's not had a regular relationship. Or a regular upbringing.

He's known he's been interested in Callie for awhile but has taken his time. He's waited until she needs a new place and she's living next door.

I really enjoyed it. He was kinda alpha about her, but not in a jerky way. He's really respectful and cares for her.

I loved their relationship. And this can be read as a standalone, but it also includes some characters from her previous books!

Just when I thought it couldn’t get better, Harloe delivered a book that had me smiling from start to finish.

Callie and Ridge are absolute perfection on the page. They are beautifully woven together in a story that captivates and enchants you in all of the best ways.

The journey you’re taken on is one that will have you absolutely enthralled. By the end of it, you’ll be wishing for your own love story that matches the beauty that is Ridge and Callie.

All in all, this book left me absolutely breathless and I know it’s definitely one of my top reads for 2024!

This author sure knows how to deliver the perfect broody mmc. I don’t think I stopped swooning throughout the entire book. I couldn’t put this one down even if I wanted to… which I obvs didn’t. I just loved how the characters were developed and growth of the fmc. I adore the characters in this small town. The way the author penned this couples relationship, seeds of hesitancy that were nurtured and grew to become a garden full of love and trust was phenomenal. Every moment that led to the hea is what my romance reading heart desired. This author truly delivered and fulfilled my wants even before I knew I needed it. A must read.

I have a new favourite book boyfriend!!

Ridge Carter!

OMG this man will have you swooning, the former hockey player is one of the owners of Roosters and is now known as the town grump. That is until he sets his sights on Cassie, the new girl in town, he’s never even spoken to her but he is already obsessed.

When he overhears her best friend saying Cassie is looking for somewhere to stay Ridge comes to the rescue.

But Cassie is as sheltered as they come, after escaping a small community who have their own rules and ways of life she is now trying to adjust to her new life in Knox Creek. She’s feeling things she’s never felt before for her new neighbour, he’s intimidating but irresistible and nothing like the men she’s used to being around, the men who wanted her to fear them. Ridge wants nothing more than to see Cassie thrive and he’s willing to help her in all the ways!

I loved seeing their relationship grow and how open they are with each other. Ridge is protective and obsessive in all the best ways and Cassie is all for it.
The build up to the spice was *chefs kiss

Oh my sweetness, Harloe Rae has me swooning so hard over Ridge and Callie. “Score on You” is a swoony, heartfelt and romantic grumpy/sunshine small town romance that I just devoured because I could not get enough.

Callie is new to Knox Creek after leaving behind her family and a way of life that she needed out of. She’s been slowly acclimating to a new way of life and there’s someone that has been waiting for her to be ready for him. Ridge Carter is a former hockey player and now works at Rooster’s as a bartender. From the moment he laid eyes on Callie, he knew she was his end game. When Callie needs a new place to live, he offers up the house next to his. Based on her past, Callie should be afraid of Ridge but she feels safe and wanted around him. As the two live next to each other, Ridge works his charm and patience with Callie to prove that she’s the one for him.

From the first time we met Ridge, I was one hundred percent gone for him. A grumpy, hockey player will always do it for me. Under the grumpy shell is a guy who is totally gone for Callie from the moment he sees her. The patience he has to make sure Callie is ready to be friends, neighbors and something more is undeniably the hottest thing about him. Callie is incredibly sweet and such an amazing woman. She was terribly sheltered in her past life and came to Knox Creek without anything. She found people who would truly care and help her in Knox Creek, especially Harper. Ridge was living day to day after leaving the NHL and having Callie in his life brought him back to life. And Ridge brought life to Callie as well. Showing her a healthy relationship and how wonderful life can be when you have a partner that truly cares about your happiness. We get appearances from some of my favorite characters from Harloe’s world and it made me so happy to have them in this story. I loved, loved these two together and I’m still swooning for both of them even after finishing this book.

This book snuck up on me, I was enjoying Callie and Ridge’s story, but then I could not put it down!

Ridge is the PERFECT book boyfriend! While they are both shy at the start, time lets them bloom. The patience, protection, and flirty texts show a side, that only Callie gets to see. He allows her to grow, trust, build her confidence, and lead the way to their relationship. I enjoyed every page, and was sorry to have the story end.

Thank you to the Author for the advanced copy; this is my voluntary review.

This one started out really good, awesome premise, I loved the characters l, Ridge and Callie were great, Ridge is all the things that are swoonworthy in a male lead. Grouchy but totally gone for his girl, smiles only for her.
I liked Callie. She escaped a cult like situation and was extremely naive to the world.
By the time I reached the half way mark a few things started to feel cringey, were callie was endearing now she felt more like an alien visiting earth for the first time, calling Ridge "boyfriend" as a pet name was not something I liked, it felt tacky, even honey or darling would have been better, "hey, boyfriend" sounds completely unnatural.
The book did lose me a bit, and I did skim some chapters that felt a bit like filler.
I will say that, though, the writing style was good, easy to read, and smooth, just that the story stalled a bit for me personally. Might have liked a bit more drama, maybe some other male drama or something.

Score on You really hit the spot for me. You take one broody “I hate everyone but you” retired hockey player and mix it with a “I escaped from a cult” innocent but wants to learn cutie, and you’ve got me reading a whole book entirely in one sitting.

Ridge was exceptionally swoony. Is he obsessive and slightly stalker-ish? Yes. Does he also go at Callie’s speed and wait for consent at every step? Yes. They were so good together: he pushes her to try new things and she brings out his protective side.

They begin their relationship through texting and it was the cutest thing to read. Callie’s exceptionally long and grammatically correct texts juxtaposed next to Ridge’s all lower case messages just made my heart melt.

The side characters banter was a little too much for me (Harper really pushed the envelope for me at times) but my love of Ridge and Callie overcame my annoyance of the side characters and Score on You was still a thoroughly enjoyable read.

This story…whew!! The intensity of these two makes for one heck of a story. I swear each character becomes a new favorite, with Ridge being definitely in top three. Calli is utterly perfect for him and these two are so intense and hot, it’s a surprise my kindle didn’t combust. I’m obsessed and wish I could’ve had more of these two. Be prepared to get nothing done once you start reading…it’s just that good and addicting.

This might just be the sweetest book I’ve ever read, and also one of the cringiest… in the best possible way. Ridge will have you swooning from the start. He’s obsessed from the very first moment he sees Callie, but knowing who she is through a mutual friend, he keeps his distance. When they finally meet properly, she falls for him almost instantly, and honestly, so would I. The obsessed, possessive grump turns out to be pure, gooey sweetness when it comes to his girl.

Now, the cringe? That comes mostly from his POV. Ridge is a big, burly ex-hockey player… who reads like an absolute lovesick sap. For example, he moves his bedroom so it shares a wall with hers. Sweet? Maybe. A little creepy? Definitely. But he gets away with it because his adoration for Callie is so genuine it’s hard not to melt.

Callie, on the other hand, is bubbly, unfiltered, and hilariously open in her texts. Sometimes a little too open, I found myself laughing and cringing at the same time. Her pet name for Ridge, “boyfriend,” didn’t work for me at all (“Hi, boyfriend” just… no), but their banter still had its charm.

This is very much a light, low-drama, feel-good romance, which isn’t my usual jam since I lean toward darker reads, but it completely won me over. Sweet, funny, a little awkward, and full of heart, it’s perfect for anyone wanting a fluffy escape.

“You drive me to the brink of madness no matter what you’re doing. But when you’re flushed? I’m shoved over the edge into blind obsession. Consider me lost in you.” 💚

THIS. 👏🏼 MAN. 👏🏼 IS. 👏🏼 OB-SESSED. 👏🏼👏🏼

I’ve been loving the man obsessed and he falls first and hard tropes lately. This book had both of those!! I’m pretty sure that Ridge Carter was born already obsessed and possessive of Callie. 😂😂 This man knew from the moment he laid eyes on her that she was going to be his and he was going to marry her. He took his time with her and helped her ease into everything, since because of her past, all of this was completely new to her. Callie is very innocent and naive at times, because of how she was raised, and Ridge had the patience of a saint as he talked her through learning about relationships and love, and life. The man is so protective of her that he shut down the bar he co-owns one night because other guys wouldn’t stop staring at her or trying to talk to her. 😂 Ridge is a quiet man, but for her? He blossoms and becomes a chatty Kathy. For her? He would do literally anything. 💕

Basically what I’m saying is I loved this and had a great time reading this. 🥰 This is a standalone small town romance, with characters that form a little family. I’ve loved all of the characters and books in this series so far, and I hope that Drake gets his own book too!

Pick this up if you’re love these tropes:
💚 small town romance
🏒 retired hockey player
💚 protective, obsessed and possessive mmc
🏒 he falls first and hard
💚 shy and innocent fmc
🏒 grumpy/sunshine
💚 slow burn romance

Slow burn perfection! It's worth the wait. When these two unite, it is pure fire! His unstoppable obsession is about to consume them both.

Callie is innocence. Pure and sweet. Life sheltered her from the world, but she is ready for his corruption.

He's a growly, possessive, former hockey pro who is playing the long game. Patience is his virtue because he has had his sight set on her from the start. There is nothing he won't do to make her happy. Ridge has never been soft, but for her he's everything she could ever dream.

Their relationship develops over time once she moves in next door. He works on her time frame and shows her what a relationship based on mutual respect looks like. It's her awakening to so many things. Ridge is patient and kind with her as she discovers all the wonders life can offer.

The romance is top notch and Ridge sure knows how to make her yearn for him. He lets her come to things in her own time and our sweet, innocent kitten is a vixen once she's unleashed.

Playing the long game has never been so worth it! I absolutely adored this couple and their evolution from neighbors to so much more. Her naivete is endearing and his protectiveness of her is just plain HOT! Their mutual obsession leads to steamy scenes that are both racy and romantic. I adored their journey. I'm obsessed!!!

A year has passed since Callie moved to Knox Creek and now only has a couple days to move out of her apartment and needs a new place to stay. When Ridge overhears Harper saying that, he suggests the other half of his duplex for Callie. So, Callie moves in, thus beginning Callie and Ridge’s friendship/relationship.

The banter between the characters kept me chuckling throughout the book. Also, I freaking love Harper! The euphemisms she uses when talking about anything sexual are freaking hilarious! All of their interactions make me laugh. The spice! Oh my gosh! The spice was extremely hot and arousing. Ridge and Callie have a special connection from the moment they set eyes on each other. They’re both quiet around each other, but when they begin texting all bets are off. They don’t have a filter through text. Every word Ridge sends her has a double meaning😉😉, which Callie doesn’t understand. She grew up in a “community that’s built on particular belief” and doesn’t understand or have social experiences as well as, she has trouble being around men, except for Ridge. She feels this calmness and attraction around him. I loved that she wanted to take pictures with each other to mark a special moment, I thought it was incredibly sweet and thoughtful. Callie’s this sweet, innocent, and naive young woman and Ridge is grumpy and broody beast of a man, unless he’s with Callie. Ridge brings Callie out of her shell somewhat and gives her new experiences. She gets bolder with him, which I loved. This book was absolutely amazing! It was so fast paced and such a quick and easy read. I definitely recommend this book!

I live for a great love story and breathe romance, so trust me when I say you want to read this book. No, honestly you NEED to read this book. Ridge and Callie's story is that kind of epicness that we all dream of and long for (even if we might not want to admit it out loud). Endless swoon, an ocean of feels, a mountain of sweetness big enough to be seen from the moon, and heart as huge as the sky make an irresistible combination that takes aim at your heart and scores a bullseye! I absolutely adored Callie and Ridge. Callie made my heart ache fiercely and her strength and kindness just blew me away. Ridge. Oh Ridge! This grumpy golden unicorn of a man was just...well, EVERYTHING!! He was so sweet, supportive, protective, caring, obsessed but patient when it came to her (and ONLY HER) that mush doesn't even describe what he did to my heart.

Ridge & Callie

What a fantastic & sweet story! I love the care Ridge takes with Callie! His obsession is adorable, too. I love Callie's unfurling feistiness as she feels more comfortable. 😁

We get banter - text threads that are SO FUN! We get steam - these two have the 🔥🔥🔥 once they get there, after the slow burn, flirting fun. 😉

We get to catch up with other beloved characters living in this world, and Harper's talent for innuendo is unmatched. Hilarious!!

Callie & Ridge are a perfect pair, & I loved & enjoyed this so much!!

I don't think I can gush enough over this book. Callie was so sweet and deserved the world. My heart smiled when Ridge was her everything. You know those grumpy men in books we love who have a soft spot? Yep, that would be Ridge. Swoon over how he was with Callie. This was a great slow burn and that build-up was perfect. This will be a book I reread. The way Harloe weaved this story will pull at your heartstrings but every word is worth it.

Ridge is a prickly bear to everyone - except to her. Callie may be innocent in a lot of ways, even naive at times, but she is also brave and articulate tackling an unknown world of not only being in a relationship but also regularly navigating new-to-her experiences. He is thoughtful and considerate, even though he is burning with obsession for her. I adored the texting between Callie and Ridge, it allowed both of them to put their guard down and it was fun to watch their relationship evolve. Ridge allows Callie to set the pace of their relationship, and when the heat hits, get ready for a wildfire.

This is the fifth book by Harloe that I have read and I have enjoyed every single one of them. If you love a swoony small town romance, possessive grumpy hero, and a sweet heroine, check it out!
