I'm in love with Berlitz pocket guides. As someone who doesn't want to rack up a high international roaming bill on mobile data using apps while travelling abroad AND who has a back problem so can't walk around with heavy travel books, these series are a life-saver. The front and back covers have the place overview in map form and a slightly more detailed major street map. It won't stop you getting lost, but will help you re-orient yourself if you're around the main streets and you can ask for help for the rest as Venice is tiny, in the end. It contains a snapshot of all the major sights to see in Venice and then some gems that I didn't know about and went in search of like the Jewish ghetto in Canareggio.
