Many people, regrettably most of the hundreds of concealed carriers the author has met, take the class required to obtain their concealed carry permit...end of story. Many will purchase a handgun, which may or may not be a good “fit” to their hand or mode of carrying concealed…end of story. They likely will buy a box of ammo, make one trip to the range, place the weapon in a holster which might not be one which “works”, and they call it good. The purpose of this book is to fill in the blanks that are so important to surviving a deadly force encounter—that is if you can’t avoid it in the first place, which is, by far, the preferred course of action. This book will address several issues all of which are important and for the dedicated self-defender needs to be the focus of frequent practice.

Jerry Boyd is in his 50th year of public safety service, primarily in law enforcement. Though he has served as Chief of a Fire/Rescue agency and a 9-1-1 Center Director his law enforcement experience is the most extensive. The author began his career as a Technical Reserve (Communications) with the Los Angeles County Sheriffs Department and after turning 21 became a Deputy Sheriff where he served in a variety of patrol and detective assignments. Upon promotion to Sergeant he served in patrol at the Norwalk, Firestone, and Carson Stations. Much of that experience is documented in his book of war stories Firestone Park: Policing South-Central Los Angeles.
