Sentinels es una novela que cuenta sin pelos en la lengua y con un tono satírico y exagerado la cara más fea de los medios de comunicación. Nunca conocer el lado oscuro de la televisión fue tan divertido. Si buscas una novela muy poco convencional sobre superhéroes, éste es tu libro.

July 4, 2019Lo empecé a leer como lectura ligera, pero creo que es demasiado ligero para mi gusto (aunque no me importaría ver una adaptación televisiva o cinematográfica).
No añado rating porque... es que casi no recuerdo nada de lo poco que leí hace unos meses.

Opinión completa en La Coneja de Papel :)
He de confesar que este libro no me llamaba especialmente la atención al principio, ya que la portada me parecía infantil y la sinopsis hablaba de una temática que ni me iba ni me venía, así que lo dejé pasar. Sin emabrgo, ¡menos mal que cambié de idea! A pesar de que a simple vista Sentinels pueda dar la impresión de ser una historia middle grade sin más, esconde unas cuantas "risas malignas" que no os podéis perder.

Horrible, horrible, horrible. Terribly written, with annoying and poorly developed characters, with an uneven and dangerously close to insulting tone, "Sentinels" is a clear example of what a book shouldn't be.
And the idea is not bad per se: you have a TV host and his friend and also director of his variety program who decide to create a new show: a reality show for people that want to become heroes. With your host as the leader of the group. What follows is an insult to the reader's intelligence, with lame and sometimes really wrong and insulting humor and so poorly written it is a wonder it made it to print.
Piñol is clearly in love with his writing, though. 1) Constant bombardment of movies and comics titles, to show he is a nerd, instead of really knowing how to pay homage to something you love. 2) Your hero of the story is a fat and bald guy that, of course, gets the ten years younger and sexy woman to be 'the love of his life'. 3) Insulting comments to your easy targets: participants of reality shows or famous people (you know, the ones it is ok to insult). 4) And the funniest: the acknowledgments where he writes this is his most feminist story to date; something hilarious when you take into account that, for him, making something feminist is to have the same old super-sexy, young and fit woman that falls in love with the hero character of yore, a kicking-ass, I-am-a-feminist shouting character that still has the same trappings of the old model. It may be just me, but I find terribly annoying that for many people feminism means the same sexualized and objectified young woman character that, instead of staying in the background waiting to be saved, now joins, in kind of a wet dream, the hero in his ass-kicking adventures. Little progress, if I may say. And making a character say stuff, doesn't mean anything if the character really hasn't any kind of development or gravitas. It is like saying you like reading because you have an encyclopedia at home.
It doesn't get a 0 because I chuckled once or twice through its length.

Siempre que llega a mis manos un libro de Martín Piñol, lo primero en que pienso es en el desbordante ingenio que tienen sus libros. Con historias ágiles y situaciones inesperadas.
En Sentinels tenemos una locura de reality donde se presenta al mundo un grupo de superhéroes para luchar contra el crimen. El libro me ha sorprendido con un inicio hasta cierto punto ingenuo que acaba siendo más sangriento de lo que podía llegar a imaginar, eso sí, bañado con el buen sentido del humor del autor.
El final de la novela me ha parecido precipitado, en el sentido que he echado en falta un epílogo para redondear la historia y trabajar un poco el desenlace de varios personajes que quedan un poco apartados de cara final.
En Sentinels tenemos una locura de reality donde se presenta al mundo un grupo de superhéroes para luchar contra el crimen. Entretingut, bona lectura per a adolescents I joves. L'autor fa moltes referències al món del còmic, i possiblement donaria per a fer una bona novel·la gràfica
