Fractured Souls #1

Remnants of Riley

Rate this book
Emmett Raythorne is everything I shouldn’t want.
Chance brought us together–a temporary business relationship–yet he’s insisted on staying, taking over, and driving me mad.
The worst part? I’m finding it hard to deny him, as if I’ve learned nothing from my past.

I’m trying to start over. Create a path for myself to slowly heal from the nightmare of my former life.
But Emmett won’t stop. He won’t leave me alone.
And his sinful gaze has me caving, has me giving in to all the things I said I never wanted again.

I just hope there’s something left of me in the end.

WOW. First read from this author. Nicely done. The characters were surprisingly flawed in just the right amounts. The MMC was a total alphahole (which I love). The FMC struggled with societal norms vs her dark desires. We have BAD bad guys and fun side characters and a whole world set up for spin-offs (PLEASE give me VIN!)
The 1st 65-70 percent of the book is a story in itself and then the adventure really kicks in! The spice is spicin’ and the romance.. 🥹..
looking for Jax and Vin now… maybe Gio.. 🔥

Please read the whole review. Overall, I think it had a good storyline. I honestly thought it was too long. Some of the chapters could have been cut out, but it’s definitely worth the read.

Riley has been through a lot of trauma in her past. She isn’t ready and doesn’t want to meet anyone but her best friend Tracy has other plans. She tries and tries to set her up and isn’t successful. Queue Emmett. He doesn’t take no for an answer and will not give up on pursuing.

He is very much in control of everything and I mean everything. Unfortunately someone isn’t happy with Riley and has plans for her. Not only does she have old but she has new trauma.

Read your trigger warnings! I have not found any that push me away but there are definitely things that some people will not want to read about.

Buckle your seatbelts ladies and gentleman because this book is going to take you on an emotional roller coaster. This book was a page turner and I could not put it down! It keeps you on your toes and will have you wanting more!

We meet our main character, Riley, who is just trying to get by. After a not so great past she is looking to leave that all behind and start fresh. She has a decent job and is going to buy her first house. But when her best friend tells her that she can't be there for closing and is sending a co worker the last thing she expected was Emmett.

Emmett has never heard the word no and gets everything he wants. Now the one thing he wants is Riley and he will stop at nothing to have her. He's also at war with himself because he never has wanted anyone the way he wants Riley, but the more he gets to know her the greater the obsession becomes.

The push and pull between these two lead to insane chemistry. Riley had a terrible ex and pretty much swore off relationships but when Emmett comes into her life she can't help but discover maybe he is just what she needs. However, Emmett has some secrets and will Riley stay when she finds them out?

This book had everything you could look for! We have an OTP MMC who will do anything to get the girl, suspense, emotion, and spice for days! You definitely will go through the ringer of emotions while reading! I definitely recommend but check CW/TW before diving in!

I'm so glad I asked for this copy 🥹🤚🏻—thank you so much for this ebook!

The beginning of the book seemed pretty normal when I first read it. Riley finally has her own house, only to run into the man who changed her life. Not entirely, but living with him or staying with him—helped her transform for the better because she wanted to. She started valuing herself more, and Emmett made her feel safe and loved in a way no one else ever had. Emmett was a playboy, but when his path crossed with hers, it drove him wild, and he couldn't imagine wanting anyone other than Riley. She was completely different from his usual 'type.' I love when the playboy goes feral, becoming possessive over that one girl. HAHAHAH.

The romance between them was well done, with a good mix of tension and intimacy. Riley, the shy, timid, and awkward girl, grows so much. Once she feels safe with Emmett, she starts to let go of her fears and communicate openly about her desires, all of it.

The spicy chapters between them were 🔥, and the jealousy scenes were amazing, I couldn't get enough. But then, BAM, around 70% into the book, it took a dark turn. I felt so bad for Riley. She suffered so much, and she did not deserve it. The torture she went through was really something else. Oh my God, it was painful.

This is what dark romance is all about, characters who are flawed, who acknowledge their flaws, and who change for the better, both for themselves and for the people they love.

And I can't forget the side characters. They were so much fun and incredibly supportive of their friends. Tracy was such a true friend to Riley, and Blake—I'm looking at you 😌🤞🏻. WAITING FOR THEIR BOOK!!!

**ARC REVIEW***

thank you so much for choosing me as one of your ARC readers. this book was exactly what I needed in between my other reads. I loved the storyline and character development between both the FMC and MMC. I am absolutely obsessed with Emmett! I did find that this could have been shorter. other than that, I really enjoyed this read. I can’t wait for more people to read this!

please keep in mind this book does contain a lot of difficult topics so check your trigger warnings when considering reading this book.

“Because if I had to choose between loving you from a distance or not loving you at all, I’d choose the first every time. “

Almost 500 pages? Wait really? Because I ATE this book up. I strongly suggest checking trigger warnings as this is one of the darker stories I’ve read, but 100% worth reading until the end!! It’s not always easy relating to a main character, however our FMC Riley embodies a lot of us women in our 20s and early 30s trying to navigate our way through life and figuring out who we truly are. As Riley is just beginning to settle down with the purchase of her first home, her world is completely spun on its axis by Emmett ~ the sexy realtor assigned to help with her closing. He’s arrogant, demanding and possessive, but still has Riley feeling things she never has and second guessing her own morals. The man screams red flags, but will that have her turning away or finally taking a chance on love again? Guess you’ll have to read their story to find out ♥️

Was the mmc toxic? Yes. Did I love every second of it? Also, yes.

If you're looking for an obsessed and overprotective mmc, then this book is definitely for you. As soon as he laid eyes on Riley, he was obsessed, and yes, I did love it.

Riley, oh how I felt for her. That girl went through so much and was still so strong. I honestly love her.

This book had such good side characters and has made me so excited for the future books, especially Tracy and Blakes' books, which are coming soon.🤭

Before you go into this, please check the trigger warnings because it is very dark.

Thank you so much, A.M Wagner, for the book❤️

Thank you for selecting me to read this ARC because this book is exactly everything I love in a dark romance!!

We have a gorgeous tattooed MMC who is an OTT possessive and obsessive alpha. Then we have a delicate and timid FMC who is both innocent and hurt by her past. And when she accidentally drunk texts him — he is a man possessed.

I fell in love with the characters almost instantly and was devouring every page as their relationship developed. Then the unthinkable happens and I’m on the edge of my seat waiting for it to end. The best way to describe this book is Haunting Adeline AND Hunting Adeline together, but MUCH more realistic. Even though it still has the same OTT tropes and resources mere humans do not have, the context is not as unbelievable and the characters are much more relatable.

The spice is excellent, especially when the MMC is first trying to seduce our FMC. The housewarming party scene was *chef’s kiss*. This whole book gets a “Yes” from me (iykyk) and I can’t wait to read about Jax and Blake in the future.

Be aware that TWs are very important as there is detailed on page r(@)pe and vi0lence and mild description of animal death 😢

This book both made me fall in love and destroyed me at the same time only to fix it again. My hearts breaks for Riley and what she goes through, at times it was really hard to read emotionally but it was definitely needed to understand what she is going through. Even though Emmett is a possessive dominant hot stalker who falls hard and fast , he is everything Riley needs and more, he's so devoted to her. He does everything he can to show her his love is real and that he's completely hers and she is his. I liked the way the past and present clashed and it was so well written that I couldn't stop thinking about this book when I wasn't reading it. There is so many hot spicy scene's that I couldnt stop reading them once I hit that part. There is trauma in this book so I would recommend that anyone who reads checks the trigger warnings but overall it's an amazing read and I can't wait for the next book.

First of all I would like to thank you for choosing me to be a part of the ARC read. I thoroughly enjoyed this book more than I was anticipating. Something that would have definitely been added to my TBR but my ability to prioritize it would have been pretty low because of everything coming out recently in the Dark romance community.

I loved this book! I’m typically used to a fast pace, whether it be fornication off bat, or a more intense build. Around 40% in I noticed that my attention was drifting, but I am so glad I stuck around until the end!! By the time I finished this book I was white knuckled, and screaming into the void. Their romance is so intense, passionate and dancing the line of obsession so beautifully. I thought this book captured the essence of utter admiration and the definition of a brooding intense stalker mafia tattooed MMC while keeping the FMC traumatized of her past and delicate a girl that leads you to believe is broken and weak due to the hand of an ex lover. Finding herself in the arms of the MMC she finds so much more than herself but she finds strength and an ability to heal all those past wounds and new with the help of hm.

The end portion of this book had me filled with so much emotion at some points being hard to even read due to the intensity of what she goes through (I definitely suggest reading trigger warnings!) Overall, however, I highly recommend this book, it was a great read and my constructive criticism is little to none.

Thank you @author.a.m.wagner for accepting me for your ARC team♥️.

Boy ole boy where to begin with this book. Riley’s story definitely takes you on a rollercoaster of emotions. I cried so much for her character. The way Riley and Emmett’s story was written, it broke my heart for her but at the same time, had me rooting for Emmett because he was the one who was willing and determined to put her back together in a sense and make her feel again. Even though he was a stalker, over the top possessive 🤪. The way this author was able to connect the story from past and present was top tier written. I find myself still thinking about this book. There is a HEA but please check your triggers before reading. They are heavy but so worth the read♥️. I hope for all the Riley’s out there, you’ll find your Emmett🩶.

Yes YES and YeS!!!!

I just became a big fan of this author after reading this. And to know its a series makes me that much more excited. I loved Emmett and his possessiveness but not to hurt, and poor Riley, I felt so bad for the things she was dealt with in life but I'm so glad she has a bada** best friend like Tracy to help her. I can go on about this book but I'm not because I'm diving into the second one ASAP the story line is just so damn good.

HOLYYY SHEEEEET!

FIRST & FOREMOST - please check your trigger warnings before diving into this world. Your mental health is of top priority and there are a lot of extremely sensitive topics covered - some very deeply.

AM WAGNER. LISTEN - I was not ready for the emotional rollercoaster you put me on FROM PAGE ONE. The book has a very well thought out plot that keeps you engaged and entertained through the first 50-70% of the book. It’s a page turner!

The chemistry, angst and tension are all there. You are rooting for your MFC. The MMC dominant AF FMC that is immediately obsessed with our FMC and goes a bit farther than most would to keep her “protected” from anyone but him that is 🤷🏼‍♀️

Once we hit 70% the story really just was unputdownable. It will have you crying and deeply emotional, but by the end the proud feelings i had for these two characters were so deep.

The characters are relatable, likeable and overall just enjoyable to read. The writing was PHENOMENAL. This may be my favorite written story of the month, her writing is soooo bingable in a sense that you’re sitting on the edge of every page waiting for the next turn and wanting to know what happens.

You’ll find: Stalking, Trauma, Healing, Obsessive/Possessive MC, Touch her and d**, lots of spice, and A LOT, deep and heavy mentioning of sexual a$$ault. Please protect your mental health. (SA in not between the MMC and FMC, but is directly on the page)

I will absolutely be continuing this series and reading everything I can by this author!

I’M SPEECHLESS, one of the best books I’ve read this year. Left my crying sad & happy tears because i loved it so much🥹

I totally felt the emotions that Riley went through just trying to navigate that darkness in her life & how Emmett had to adjust himself to her need. This poor woman had been THROUGH IT, but she’s still navigating through life with so much care(AS SHE SHOULD) & here comes big bad Emmett, I would have fell for him too tbh because he laid it on thick🤣🤣

The healing from all the trauma is what really got me, because its times like that where you need a tribe to help you through that, which she had.

The endinggggg, that’s all I’m going to say😂😂👀👀
I can’t wait for more on Tracy & Jax too because I know he’s just as possessive Emmett🤭

Thank you A. M. for this arc & it’s amazing story💖💖

I like my romance dark, my smut steamy and my men morally grey.

And A.M. Wagner DELIVERED.

Emmett Raythorne - the man of the hour. A protective, touch her and die kind of guy with some light stalking tendencies. Covered in tattoos and having Mafia ties, he quite literally is the perfect Dark Romance Boyfriend.

It was easy to watch our girl, Riley - riddled with trauma- fall head over heels for him. Even if she tried to deny her feelings throughout most of the book - to no avail.

As a whole I believe this book could've had some trimming as this book is on the longer side. There was a lot of detail where sometimes it was necessary and other times not so much. But still 100% worth the read in my opinion.

This was a good read for sure and I hope that anyone who reads this remembers:

TRIGGER WARNINGS❗️
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5
This follows a dual pov between a girl named Riley and a man absolutely obsessed with her named Emmett. The book picks up right away. It gives good details about how timid and shy riley is and how controlling Emmett is.. stalker romance a bit👀 Seeing the love start to bloom between them and once riley opens up and we know a-bit more about her trauma, was perfect.
Something traumatic happens to Riley and the story is insane. But seeing how Emmett helps and loves her through it was beautiful.
!!!This book gets DARK so please make sure to read your trigger warnings!!!
I received this as an ARC and immediately bought the signed hard copy because I loved it so much and all opinions are my own

This book was incredible. Riley has a troubled past and is doing her best to start over. She's moved back to her hometown and with the help of her best friend, bought a cute little place in the middle of nowhere on 10 acres. But when her closing date falls in the middle of her realtors vacation, she has to close with the new guy at the office. Emmett, who is brooding, dark, and handsome. He immediately takes to Riley, but she doesn't trust him. He will do anything to have her though. But when her life gets turned upside down by a stalker, she finds out that Emmett might not be who he says he is.

I loved this book! It was well written, the story line was the perfect blend of the dual POV, and the epilogue left me wanting more.

Dark. Addicting. TW city.
Everyone loves a good dark romance sometimes right? Well A.M. Wagner didn’t disappoint. This book is about the personal struggles of a woman named Riley who has just left an abusive relationship. It follows her setbacks and triumphs and the internal struggles she faces when starting to “date” again. The inner monologue she shares throughout the book will hit you in all the feels. This book gives hope of healing after trauma with a trusted individual. If you love dark and twisty, emotional rollercoaster rides and intensity in your reads this one is for you. Check the trigger warnings on this read before reading because it has a lot of dark themes.

This story was just so perfect ..... The MMC is an alphahole  but i did adore him alot in the book  and the FMC in this book  has some struggle with the societal noms vs her dark desires ..  I love the spice that is in this book like wow!  Here are some of favourite sentences  :
1. ‘If you want anywhere near my pussy again, you’ll respect my decision not to leave Adam high and dry’."
2. "‘a chicken coop will be a piece of fucking cake"
3. "‘I’ll kill you if you so much as sneeze in my direction’ vibe."

I absolutely loved Emmett! I’m not one to put spoilers out so it’s hard to write a review without giving anything away. I did love the possessiveness Emmett has over Riley. Riley has gone through a lot and is trying to start over. I loved her friendship that she had with her longtime bestie Tracy. I am loving forward to books for Jax and Blake 😁

I loved this book!!! I have been DV and SA so if you have triggers know in advance. But this book was TOO good too put down. Riley is a timid girl after a hard life and Emmet is very sure and dominating in what he wants. I was screaming for her to tell him why she reacted that way. I swooned and cried throughout. Definitely recommend.

Mark my words, A.M. Wagner is definitely an author to watch.

"He looks like sin. Like late nights and dark places. Like whispered words and sweat-kissed bodies. Like he'd drag you to the pits of Hell and worship you amongst the blaze."

Wagner was able to give us an obsessed, stalker MMC that was somehow soft. The way Emmett handled his entire relationship with Riley, especially after her trauma, was what I so desperately wanted in similar stories but was never given. He was unapologetic, but he wasn't the level of forceful as many other MMC's in this genre.

This story, though dark, also featured elements that made it much easier to digest. Were some of those elements corny? Sure, but they were also cute and made everything more relatable.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book, and I cannot wait to read more by this author in the future.

I received this book as an ARC read and absolutely loved it! I fell in love with a different book earlier this year that had the kidnap/torture/healing tropes and have been looking for something else that could fill the void that book left. This book did all that and more.

Positives:
-Great spice
- The feelings, inner monologues, and choices made by the characters were very realistic for what a lot of people experience (apart from the obvious-stalking, murder, etc). I didn’t feel like it was cheesy or forced at all, which sometimes happens in books.
-Amazing character development, specifically with Emmett. I personally did not like him for the first 1/4 of the book. But by the end you couldn’t help but love him. I also loved how Riley was written. I felt like her inner monologue was so accurate and really depicted someone who has been through significant trauma.
-You truly felt what the characters felt and became very invested in their stories
-The story moved at a good pace. I had a hard time putting the book down, especially in the last 20-30%.

Critique:
-(Unless there are plans to write other books in this series) I felt like there could have been more time spent on Emmett and Riley’s backstory. Both of them have a lot of abnormal personality traits and behaviors. Exploring that a little more of that could have been nice. With that being said, I would definitely read and be very excited if there is another book that is only focused on their stories prior to meeting each other.

-I also thought that Riley’s healing could have been explored a little more. It is clear that there is a setup for a second book. So that may be included in some capacity during that book. I personally hope it is.

I’m so so so glad I was elected to read the ARC, wowie wow wow wow!!!! 😱🤯

I was hooked as soon as I started this book and learned more about Riley, but Oh my, oh my!! Emmet… he has now over shadowed all other book boyfriends! This book has completely destroyed me and put me back together. The lengths this man goes through to get and keep Riley is every woman’s dream. To have been through everything Riley has been through & to do what he can to be the support the strength and the power, love all in one. To help her over come all of her fears and struggles after the traumatic things she has and goes through was unbelievebly sad and hard to digest, but to watch her come through and become such a different but beautiful person was none the less beautiful to watch I fold. This book was so beautifully written and is by far one of my top 5 reads of this year. I finished this book and it’s all I can think about. I’m all about some dark romance, stalker, obsessed will do anything for her type of book but this knocks the socks off… literally! I’m beyond speechless at the love these two have for each other. I hope and pray there is more books to read about the other characters in the book, and hopefully more about Riley & Emmett because I just couldn’t get enough of this was definitely a 5 out of 5 read for me and the spicy scenes was definitely HOT! Please, please check triggers before reading this book of course. But I promise you will NOT regret one bit of it. 🫶🏽

Please read the triggers before starting this book!!

📕 Remnants of Riley by: A.M. Wagner
Coming out June 10

“I’m not jealous. Jealousy implies I have competition, and I don’t. Riley is mine. That’s just facts.”

I honestly don’t even know where to start with this one. The twists and turns and you think you’ve figured it out but did you really? This book is literally everything 🤌🏽✨

Riley has escaped from an abusive relationship and is trying so hard to start over. She moved, got a good job, is buying a house and has an amazing best friend Tracy! Life should be going great right? Here enters Emmet, the broody, tattooed, POSSESSIVE real estate agent who is very happy to just insert himself into her life.

All the secrets, lies, and drama all sprinkled in🫣✨
Not to mention jealousy of some chickens! I mean these dang chickens 😭

I loved everything about this book and seriously can’t wait to learn more about Tracy because that epilogue had me screaming at A.M. Wagner 😜 give us more!!
