This is a great alphabet book for my train-obsessed two-year-old. The pictures are a bit dated, and the overall feel of the book is kind of...gritty. Let's just say this isn't a book that tries to romanticize the look and feel of a rail yard! But my son was thrilled with it all the same and has requested it quite a few times since we got it as a gift last week.

ETA 2021: I don't remember L ever asking to read this book as a toddler/preschooler, but F found it in her room tonight and enjoyed reading it with me and big sister L. She was even telling me the sounds that some of the letters make! Not bad for nearly 3! :-)

This is a nonfiction book and is intended for ages one to five. It introduces all the major parts and features of classic trains, grouping them in alphabetical order. I gave it four stars because I think that it is a very intriguing book that effectively combines education and interest. A young reader can use this book as a way to practice their ABC skills, while learning about all of the important components that make up trains and allow them to run. In addition, there are high-quality pictures included. They are a bit outdated, since the book was originally published in 1990, but young readers will appreciate them nonetheless. Also, children who are not able to read yet can still enjoy. The only reason why I rated it four stars, instead of five, is because it only appeals to a certain group of kids. Young readers who aren't interested in trains would probably find "All Aboard ABC" boring and uninteresting. Regardless, this book could be used in classrooms to teach students about the innerworkings of locomotives and to review the alphabet in a fun way! (Posted 3/7/2023)

A terrific train book! It wouldn't make you want to visit the US, but it does have lots of great photos of real trains.
