Spice: 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️

The spice was spicing in this one! After the cliffy ending on book 1, this book jumps in right where book 1 left off! There was certainly more spice in this book since the slow burn ignited and our MMCs are living their best poly lives.

After my last few fantasy reads, I enjoyed some poly mafia smut! Thanks to Tilly Ridge for the early ebook copy!!

Las Vegas. City of sin. What happens here isn’t what it seems. Marcello has finally decided to share his life, his secrets, and his trust, with people he never saw coming. However, that trust is put to the test when Ellie and Nash disappear and it all points to Zamir.

Will Marcello and Zamir be able to put everything else aside in order to save Ellie and Nash? Or in the city of lights, will the darkness finally take over.

This book is a reverse harem where Ellie has her group of men that all worship the ground that she walks on. The group dynamic is 👨‍🍳💋.

Our FMC, Ellie, is a strong FMC. She is a tough as nails mafia girl who was raised in that world and isn’t afraid of anyone or anything. She will gladly take a life for the her family and the men she loves.

We have 3 MMCs:
-Zamir: pro-football player, ex-Albanian mafia from Chicago
-Nash: rookie quarterback on Zamir’s team
-Marcello: mafia boss who controls Las Vegas

There was so much spice! I normally like spicy books, but at a certain point I felt like it was thrown in there just to throw it in there. I don’t know that have a spicy scene every other chapter was relevant.

Overall, I did enjoy the storyline of the book. I love a strong FMC so I was happy to read that Ellie was badass.

First of all, Thankyou to Tilly Ridge and Luna Literary for providing me with an ARC copy of this book in exchange for a honest review!

Yes, Yes, Yes!!!!! This book starts as soon as book one ends, which means we immediately jump into the action and I loved it. I godamn needed it after that cliff hanger. Due to the circumstance, We have the group split into two. We don’t see much of Ellie and Nash initially, but what we do get is a hell of a lot of Zamir and Marcello and it is glorious. Their dynamic is like tangible fire. They are both so brash and let’s be honest unhinged, but Zamir immediately goes into submissive mode, because he knows that is the only thing that will get Cello to trust him again and while yes, this is an risky move, it works perfectly. Zamir showing his dedication to Marcello and by extension the Italian mafia and his family was one of the most beautiful things about this book. He fully just gave himself over.

I don’t know why but my heart breaks significantly harder for Nash that it does for Ellie. Yes, they’re both in the exact same scenario and are essentially dealing with it in the same capacity, but Nash’s inner monologue and what he chooses to voice to Ellie, truly rips my heart out. He thinks he is going to die, and his only thoughts are to tell Ellie what he needs her to know before he doesn’t have a chance. I don’t think there’s anyone who could look at Nash and not love him, or fall in love with him. He is a sweetheart down to his bones.

When the group finally reunites (and a little beforehand) we get some insane spicy scenes. Listen, I may have had a few minor complaints about these books, but no one can say the smut isn’t next level. The power dynamics and the way punishments and forgiveness are intertwined into these scenes just make everything more intense. The way all four of these people willing, maybe some with some with a little more convincing that others (maybe a marble decoration to the teeth), to give there bodies over with such a freedom just makes everything better. This book is heavy on somnophilia, so if you aren’t particularly a fan of that this book definitely isn’t for you. I hate to complain because the number of spicy scenes we are gifted in this book is astonishing, but I need another Nash and Zamir only scene!! We we’re robbed.

Another thing about this book, is that all the side characters are perfectly charming. Vin, Noah and Blair have me severely intrigued. I also loved Dario and his crew. We will get more of them, right? RIGHT? Pretty please. I would of liked a bit more of an interaction between Nash and Willow, while we know they did discuss the father after his death, it would have been nice to have my eyes on those pages, I would of loved to see some of Nash’s big brotherly charm and get more of an insight into Willow. (I am maybe just obsessed with Nash; can you blame me?)

While the plot is captivating throughout, I’m still a little unclear on what Agron’s end goal was, if it was to take down Marcello, he was certainly doing a poor job. Was his only plan to take Nash and Ellie away from them, and then what? That would someone be the demise of the entire Italian Mafia? I feel like a lot of the characters were doing things just to do them, rather than having an end goal. I would read so much more of this story. WE NEED BONUS CHAPETERS PLEASE.

I devoured both of these book within 48 hours. I feel like I may have made one to many complaints but believe me I genuinely loved these books. They were such easy reads. The were consistently entertaining and defiantly had your emotions in a vice grip. I would of like a little bit more of an epilogue, but this is mainly due to the fact that I would consume every morsel these characters have to give without a second glance. I cannot wait to read more from this author and hopefully explore some more of the characters in this crazy world.

Y’ALL!! This book was amazing. The writing, the characters, the story, everything.

Ellie, Nash, Zamir and Marcello went through a lot in this book but it only brought them closer to one another. The connection between all of them was perfection. 🥰

The chemistry and intimacy they have is a beautiful thing 🥹 Each one of them brings something different to the relationship and all mushed together, it just works.

I can’t get enough of Ellie. She is a strong independent woman who knows what she wants and she is going to get it one way or another. This book showed how strong she truly is and that no matter what she was faced with, she was going to not just survive, but thrive.

@tillyridgeauthor thank you for writing such an amazing book with such amazing characters. I look forward to your next adventure 🖤

Thank you so much Luna Literary and Tilly Ridge for the ARC ❤️

If you have not read book 1, go back and do that now. This book will answer the cliffhanger questions.

Ellie 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 is the perfect FMC in this reverse harem. Her men: Nash, Zamir, and Marcello make up the perfect MMMF combo. The dynamic they all have are *chefs kiss* Ellie is a bad@$$ and she takes no sh!t from anyone. And the way she can get these men to grovel for her, I loved it.

Marcello is our unhinged mafia daddy.
Nash is the big ole teddy bear.
Zamir is the slutty and affectionate one.

The spice was HOT! So many scenes will have you dripping and wheezing your thighs together.

Taking over the dark is the follow-on book to Playing for the dark, in this one we get all the answers to the cliff hanger.
This dark romance gives you all the flavours of boyfriend you could want we have dark unhinged daddy Marcello, a little more level headed but sl*tty Zamir (affectionately) and soft lovable teddy bear Nash.
We all know Ellie was a bad bitch but she fully steps into her feminine rage and slightly unhinged in this one.
They deserved each other and their hea 🖤

Well this picked right up from the cliff hanger in book one and kept going.

All their parents except Ellie's dad are terrible humans. I'm so glad they found each other and embraced their little foursome.

The plot got going more in this books and was so easy to get caught in.

The spice was spicing, and I still don't have a fave of Ellie's men. Not picking, can't make me.

The only scene I wish we'd of gotten is them telling her dad about them, getting is reaction and him gaining four sons.

can't wait to read more of Tilly's work.

Thank you to Luna Literary for the opportunity to ARC read this book.
The smut in this was smoking hot. I love a bi-awakening. I also love revenge against a shitty parent. Also, it should be noted that what Ellie did with the marble was hilarious and very much deserved.

Overall, this wasn’t my cup of tea. I love pet names and nicknames, it’s one of my favorite parts of romance books (even if they can be cringy sometimes.) but they seemed out of control in this. It was hard to keep up with. The plot felt all over the place, and the ending also felt abrupt after everything they have been through.
I didn’t find it to be the easiest read. I can totally see lots of people like it though! And I wish the author tons of success!

Part 2 of this duet DID NOT disappoint. The unhinged energy was fire of course. The writing was engaging and focused. The plot was plotting!! The spice was unmatched and REFRESHING—different smut scenes than you typically encounter in a why choose romance and I absolutely loved it. The characters are all so lovable and Ellie is certainly my new fave FMC. I’m obsessed with her rage.

P.S. I will never not think of Tilly Ridge when I hear “criss cross applesauce” now 🤣

I really enjoyed this book and the end story for them! I absolutely loved how Ellie reacted when she found out about Cello being her stalker and replacing her birth control! I wish Cello did a bit more grovelling. I also would’ve liked to have Nash’s POV when he told Willow about their dad

The PERFECT conclusion to this duet & my heart is so happy!🥹🖤🖤

Ellie, Nash, Zamir, and Marcello have a complicated relationship but it’s definitely MEANT to be with these four. I thought my heart was going to stop the end of book one with the cliffy, and the conclusion in book 2 just MELTED my heart! I love how the boy’s relationship with Marcello developed, and how Ellie made sure to let him have her wrath when he messed up lol. Forever obsessed with this duet😍

I once again ate this shit up! The taboo, risky, unhinged, and unparalleled.
It picks up IMMEDIATELY following end of book one, Playing for the Dark.
Plot schmot, I came for the smut, and don't pretend you didn’t either. The smut is a lot of the plot, but there is a plot, mafia style, and it involves Texas and Chicago. Marcello owns Vegas, and everyone knows that. He’s our little organ-donating, nice mafia don. 😈
Our FMC Ellie takes no shit and will rock your shit.
I took way too much pleasure in Ellie reminding Marcello of his place 🤌💋
Several moments throughout this book had me giggling and kicking my feet like Zamir's off-hand confession in chapter 17 😅
The criss cross applesauce circle scene will live in my head rent-free forever 😉
Praise, degradation, voyeurism, possessiveness, torture, murder, mafia, sports, why choose, pleasure dom, switch, somno, exhibitionism, chastity cage, jacobs ladder, kuno, MM, MMM, MMF, MMFM, I cannot recall MF in this one.

I'm onto Strong Side next as these authors know what's up! 😈😍 Cannot wait to see more in this Universe because if you've read Masked and Mine, as well as these two High Stakes Syndicate books you KNOW, Blair and Vin need their full story told.

Memorable quotes:
"I can say this as a man, but I don’t think we should be in power. In any aspect. It goes straight to our heads, and anything with a penis uses power to harm in more instances than not."

"Men truly shouldn’t be allowed to speak, but sadly they can."

“You might be taking over the dark in Vegas, but Nash, you’re all the light we will ever need. Even in the worst scenario imaginable, you were my light, and no one can dim that. Not even your father.”

Thank you Tilly for letting me read this book ahead of the release date! 🖤

If you haven’t read Playing for the Dark, stop now and read that first before you dive intoTaking Over the Dark. It’ll make more sense because book 1 has some cliffhangers and unanswered questions!

This reverse harem follows Ellie’s intense connection with Nash, Zamir and Marcello and picks up from the cliffhanger in book 1. I really enjoyed reading the development between all the guys as well as individual relationship dynamics between Ellie and each of the guys as well as the guys’ relationships with each other. I’m so glad they FINALLY acknowledged it!

I totally love when Ellie makes 3 grown adults, 1 mafia don and 2 football players, grovel and set boundaries after the stunts they pulled ending in a cliffhanger in. Then a jerk circle to complete the punishment while she got herself off was *chef’s kiss*

As each of the MMCs are of different heritage, they each have endearing nicknames for each other in their different languages.😍

⚠️ Trigger Warnings: Be sure to check these before diving in. Some parts of the story can get pretty intense and well… triggering! ⚠️

Overall, I’d recommend this book if you like to read a dark mafia sports romance with lots of spice and completely unhinged characters (in the best way) and story . ☠️

🔥 Spice Level: 5/5

If you love dark, spicy, and action-packed romances, Taking Over The Dark by Tilly Ridge is one you don’t want to miss!

This reverse harem mafia romance follows Ellie, a total badass heroine, and her intense connections with Nash, Zamir, and Marcello. The chemistry between all the characters is off the charts, and I loved watching their relationships develop—especially how Ellie managed to stand her ground with Marcello without completely pushing him away.

The plot is just as amazing as the romance! The action scenes were super intense, and the mystery had me hooked from start to finish. Tilly Ridge really knows how to keep you guessing! That said, the scenes where Nash and Ellie were taken were tough to read, but the emotions were so real and raw. Tilly did an incredible job capturing the pain and strength in those moments.

Ellie’s character truly shines throughout the book. She’s fierce, independent, and doesn’t let anyone walk over her—exactly the kind of heroine you can’t help but root for. And the unique blend of mafia drama, pro football, and even organ harvesting (for a good cause, believe it or not!) makes this story stand out in the best way possible.

⚠️ Trigger Warnings: Be sure to check these before diving in. Some parts of the story can get pretty intense!

Overall, Taking Over The Dark is an amazing read filled with spice, suspense, and unforgettable characters. Highly recommend it!

I have a couple favorite things about this author: 1) the music/playlist choice. I LOVE a good playlist in books! 2) the representation that she writes in both books. She does not shy away from the love these characters show one another when society shames people for it and she makes it a point to call that out in her books. 3) the level in which she shows empathy for people in all walks of life and stands by them loudly and proudly. I actually found her in the wake of the results of the election and am so happy to see that not only does she stand by her morals but she also expresses this in the book!

Now, the sad part. I for some reason just couldn’t get as invested in this book as I wanted. I’m gonna say the same thing I said in my previous review of the other book. I really think the spicy scenes got in the way of developing more depth to these characters. I wanted more drama. I was a little shocked about how Ellie was mad at Cello for “what he did” (iykyk) when leading up to it, it really seemed like a) she should have figured it out based on the pet name Cello has for her and b) given that this is dark romance…Cello literally did his research in what she likes and delivered. Ok, writing that out loud, maybe I should dial down on my dark romance mind cuz every book is different BUT, she also got over it really quickly and they never had any kind of serious talk/heart to heart about it. I wanted depth and drama!!! lol

Anyway, seeing as this is only her sixth book?! Yeah, I’ll definitely be back to reading this authors books in the near future because I LOVE authors who aren’t afraid to go against the status quo and write about representation!

“Taking Over the Dark” is the second duet in the “High Stakes Syndicate Series.” Las Vegas is known as the “City of Sin” and a rather apt for a reverse harem relationship. The three guys, Zamir, Nash and Marcello, all bring different dimensions to their relationship with Ellie. She is the glue that combines them.

Each worship the ground that Ellie walks upon and would do anything for her. Zamir Prifti is a pro-football player with the Las Vegas Rebels. He is ex-Albanian mafia from Chicago. Nash Hayden is the rookie quarterback with the LAs Vegas Rebels with Zamir. Marcello Barone, mafia boss who controls Las Vegas and also Ellie’s stalker. Ellie is their strong and sassy, strong, bartender, working her way through school.

“And with that thought, I announce to all of them, “I love you all. All in different ways, but just know I love each one of you beyond what I ever thought was possible out of me. And I’m glad you forced me out of my ‘swearing off love’ era.”

“Taking Over the Dark” combines football and mafia - a dark romance with multiple love interests. The story is full of passion, intrigue, romance, danger, drama, twists and turns around every corner! A thoroughly enjoyable read from page to page, one chapter to the next - at times you are metaphorical “on the edge of your chair” wondering what will happen next. Overall, I would highly recommend this book and you will not be disappointed 😊

I AM SIMPLY IN AWE! THIS WAS THE PERFECT WAY TO END A DUET THAT KEPT ME ON MY TOES AND WANTING MORE!!

This is the second book after Playing for the Dark where we get introduced to our MCs - Ellie, Nash, Zamir, and Marcello. Each character brings so much to the story that I don't even know where to start.

I love our Ellie who is fierce, doesn't take any $h!t from men. PERIOD! but she has a bigger heart than what she should have given her history.
I love our sweet Nash for finding himself, finding those who love him just the way his is, and in return bringing a wholesome feel to the dynamic while also being a deadly sharp shooter?!?!
I love Zamir to his core, he's sexy, protective, loyal (iykyk), and encourages (without pushing) those around him to be their best selves.
Last but not least, I love Marcello for his over-protective, over-bearing, commanding presence, and ultimately his heart.

The story follows their MMFM relationship and it's equally spicy as it is plot-driven. Those moments where the plot takes over I was fully immersed living my best life in Vegas, and those moments where the spice is spicing I'm wishing I was more than a fly on the wall.

Tilly Ridge is one of my favorite authors, an auto-read for me, and deserves all the flowers!

PLEASE CHECK THE TRIGGER WARNINGS!

What an incredible ending to this duet.

TOTD picks up right as Playing for The Dark concludes. Ellie and Nash are kidnapped, Zamir has been knocked unconscious, and Cello is so confused as to where Ellie and Nash are when Zamir was supposed to watch them.

I feel for Ellie and Nash. What they went through was traumatic, but it's truly inspiring to see Ellie and Nash come out the other side even more extraditionary people. They all go through so many ups and downs. Family secrets are revealed, and it gets extremely complicated. Ellie, Nash, Cello, and Zamir grow closer, which is the best but not before Ellie seeks some answers to her questions.

Is it strange that I want Ellie to be a mafia boss like Mar because I think she would nail it!!!

I'm so excited for what's next 😏😏😏

Tilly, you've done it again with another amazing story, and I can not recommend this duet more!!!

Thank you so much to Tilly and your lovely team for the opportunity to read this story. I am forever grateful 🙏

The spice? Oh, it spiced. HARD.

After the absolutely savage cliffhanger in Playing for the Dark (book 1), this sequel wastes no time diving right back in, and trust me—it’s WILD. The slow burn is officially burnt because these men? Yeah, they’re thriving in their poly, chaotic, spicy lives.

Now let’s talk groveling. Some of these men? Oh, they deserve it, and Ellie delivers in the most iconic way possible—like a true boss. That scene (you know the one) had me absolutely cackling and clutching my pearls. Say what you will, but Ellie commanding that big circle of chaos? Legendary behavior.

This book has everything: taboo vibes, mafia drama, unhinged characters, risky situations, and more kinks than I could count without a notebook. Marcello running Vegas? Organ-donating mafia king. Ellie putting him (and everyone else) in their place? Chef’s kiss.

Also, shoutout to Zamir’s chapter 17 confession. My jaw? On the floor.

If you’re here for plot, it’s mafia meets sports meets why-choose madness, with Texas and Chicago playing their part. But if you’re here for smut (and let’s not pretend we aren’t), this one DELIVERS. Every kink, every dynamic, every… circle scene—yeah, this book lives rent-free in my head now.

Degradation, praise, voyeurism, murder, possessiveness, torture, exhibitionism, somno, chastity cages, and the list goes on. Honestly, I can’t even keep up with all the letters (MM? MMF? MMM? MMFM?) but trust me, they’re all delicious.

Tilly Ridge did it again. I devoured this book, and you should too!

Tilly Ridge is the Queen of dark polyamory romance stories, and she delivers again with Taking Over the Dark, a dark mafia, football story. This book feature Nash and Zamir who are football teammates, Ellinor (Ellie), the badas$, ball-busting FMC, and Marcello (Cello), their fierce mafia boss lover. Zamir is from a different mafia family, but he and his cousin left it because they didn’t agree with human trafficking. Zamir works with Cello when not playing ball. The four go through a lot of tough times because of Zamir’s father and uncle (Alex’s dad), and the book details what happened.

I like that Ellie, Nash, Zamir, and Cello are a united front, in a loving polycule, and aren’t afraid for the world to know it. My favorite sentence was the last sentence of the book “We’ve taken over the dark…and the four of us are in the front, leading the way with torches in hand, ready to burn whatever stands in our way to the ground.”

The book is well-written, with interesting and complex characters, and excellent world building. The chemistry sizzles between the four and the smexy times between them are spicy hot! If you like your stories with lots of steam, characters that are in touch with their feelings, and like a good storyline, this may be an enjoyable book for you.

There was so much I loved in this duet. All four of them had something that made them very relatable to me, but the end all was watching Nash coming to terms with owning his sexuality and accepting the love each of his partners provided for him.

Ellie was the portrait for don’t give a fuck kinda girl and I loved her for that. Her journey with healing from her mom and letting the guys love on her was written really well too.

Zamir being the one who would make them laugh in the hard moments and then would comfort them too was my favorite thing.
And let’s not forget Marcello being saved as scary mafia man in Nash’s phone lmao.

I really enjoyed the development of the relationship between the guys with Marcello after he learned that even if they were in danger, he loved them so much he’d do anything to protect them.

Also the spice in this was SPICY 😏🤭 it was all written so well too!

Definitely recommend picking up the first one now and the second one when it’s out!
