SHE KNEW ABOUT MEN LIKE HIMBack in the states, prim Bethany Brasfield would never have trusted a hard-drinking adventurer like Trace Taylor. Here in the Peruvian jungle, however, her life and that of her archeologist father were in Trace's calloused hands as he led them past panthers, snakes, and deadly natives on the way to a legendary ancient city of jewels. The all-too-attractive scoundrel obviously expected Bethany to fall into his arms every night. But she'd be damned before she'd admit to the wanton yearnings she felt at the sight of his rippling muscles, his mocking eyes, and his slow, devastating smile...HE KNEW WHAT A WOMAN WANTEDTrace wasn't too happy about accepting Brasfield's crazy assignment to search for the lost treasures of time - until he laid eyes on the archeologist's bookkeeper daughter. Her severe hair style and practical khaki clothing couldn't hide her delectable beauty. Though Bethany's superior air might have intimidated another man, Trace figured she'd thaw out pretty fast under the brutal jungle sun. And then, there was something about those long steamy nights filled with the raucous cry of wild animals that led even the coldest of ladies to take comfort in a man's arms - especially a man who knew what a woman wanted...

Since writing her first romance novel in 1984, Virginia Brown has written nearly 50 romance novels. Many of her books have been nominated for Romantic Times' Reviewer's Choice, Career Achievement Award for Love and Laughter, and Career Achievement Award for Adventure. Her works regularly appear on national bestseller lists. Having written under several different names about historical eras such as the old West, Regency-era, and the American Civil War, she now writes under a new pseudonym, Juliana Garnett, to focus upon the medieval era.

A native of Tennessee, Virginia spent her childhood traveling with her parents as a "military brat,” living all over the US and in Japan. This influenced her love of travel and adventure, which is reflected in her work.

Twice a year, Virginia visits England to research her novels, and includes Scotland in her travels. She feels this adds a new dimension to her work, and enables her to more authentically impart the true flavor of the geographical and historical sites.

In addition to appearing on the nationally syndicated television program What's Hot, What's Not, Virginia Brown has been interviewed by Jane Pauley on the Today Show, and regularly appears on local television and radio shows in addition to coverage by the press. She also experienced a first for a romance writer by appearing on the cover of Memphis, the magazine.

Virginia is the mother of four grown children, and now enjoys her menagerie of dogs that includes a fat beagle, two part-chows, a hound and five cats. As the grandmother of three lovely children, one of her greatest pleasures these days is visiting with Justin, Christina, and Gaby.

3.5 Stars!!! An enjoyable read! The year is 1889 and Bethany is accompanying her father on an expedition to find a lost colony in Peru. She was recently left at the altar by her cheating fiance and is convinced she will end up a spinster. The guide for the expedition is Trace, who never, ever, takes a woman along on a trip. As soon as they meet, the sparring between the two begins, as does the mutual attraction.

Forced into a life of crime as a child by the man who raised him, Trace, had to escape from Texas to save his life at the age of sixteen and ended up in Peru. The more he gets to know Bethany, his feelings for her develop into more than he ever expected. He also knows she wants it all ..... love, marriage, family ..... but he can't provide her those things due to the past that haunts him.

The secondary characters who saw the events that took place in Texas eleven years prior and have different points of view as to what happened, add to the complexity of the expedition. There are all kinds of twists and turns along the journey to find the lost city. The dialogue between all the characters flowed and was entertaining.

'Emerald Nights ' by Virginia Brown was originally put out in 1991. This was a really great book that hooked me in pretty quickly!

Bethany Brasfield was once engaged but her future husband left her at the alter. Now Bethany has settled into the mind set that she will be a spinster and has set to help her father. Bethany's father is a professor that is determined to find the lost Incan city of Vilcapampa.

Trace Taylor has been hired to take Bethany and her father into the Peruvian jungle. Trace at first tries to get Bethany to stay behind as he thinks with her there is will cause problems with the men and also that she won't be able to handle the journey.

Trace and Bethany try to fight their growing attraction along with everything else that is going on with this journey.

Really good read that I hope you will like too.

When Bethany’s engagement ended at the altar, she decides to go with her father to Peru, he is a Professor and in search of the lost city of Vilcapampa. Trace has been hired to take them into the Peruvian jungle, Bethany tries to deny it but her attraction for Trace is growing. Will they find love together? This is a fast paced read with lots of drama and suspense. I enjoyed the stories as well as the chemistry between Bethany and Trace. Enjoyable read.
