Firstly to note that this book is not by an unknown author. It was written by author Mary Rosambeau. It is the story of young Thomas who loves charcoal drawing. His talent is spotted and he travels to London to become an apprentice artist. It is set in 1585 and Queen Elizabeth I has set out rules to smooth the troubles in England that existed between Protestants and Catholics.
As with Mary's other books, this is actually written for a young readership but it is also exceptionally readable by all ages.
