With Get Pretty, Kick Butt, Alison Lumbatis has given women a short yet thorough guide to living a more focused, more fulfilling life. While her advice is mainly directed at moms, it’s applicable to all women- and men!- at all stages of life.
The bulk of this book, and Alison’s Get Your Pretty On business, is centered on a woman’s wardrobe: the importance of getting dressed every day, finding your personal style, excellent advice on cleaning out your closet, etc. But she also talks about other self-care topics such as establishing a daily routine, maintaining healthy habits, and pursuing hobbies outside of your role as wife and mother.
One thing that I was pleasantly surprised about was the candor with which Alison talks about her past struggles with self-image and toxic family expectations. She was honest, without any sign of self-pity.
None of the advice in Get Pretty, Kick Butt was ground-breaking, but it was all practical and succinct. We’re living in a time when ‘normal’ life has flown the coop and these caring reminders from Alison were just what I needed to bring some badly-needed structure back into my days.
Note: this review is of the recently updated version of this book.
I love how short this book was, honestly. The author tells her story of how she loses herself in motherhood and then gives some great pieces of advice about putting yourself together. I personally loved it!! It was exactly what I needed at this time!
This was a fun, quick read. I am trapped in the mom zone right now, not giving a lot of time to me. Having Allison’s “permission” to do things for me was an eye opener and a motivator. I will put her schedule to the test today!
Being a mom is a full time job that often takes over a woman’s life. Alison Lumbatis offers ideas and tips to help organize mom life and assist in living a pretty life! Taking time to invest in yourself is a wise investment. Excellent book that asks thought provoking questions and suggests life changing ideas.
I wish I had this book when I was a young Mom! I am now an empty nester and have found this book to be very helpful! Doesn’t matter what age you are or what stage of life your in, this book is a must read!
While there isn’t anything brand new to me in this book, Alison’s style challenges completely changed my wardrobe and made shopping for clothes fun again.
Great book on simple and doable ways to get my act together!
I really enjoyed this book, the clothing lists, building your wardrobe, getting your act together!! I’ve been stuck in a rut for 3 years and this gives me hope.
I would have liked to see more in this book but for many people who are already failing at making time for themselves, this little ebook might be just what they need to moving in the right direction. The author covers scheduling, fashion, makeup and more for the busy mom.
