This was free on kindle and for that I am thankful! Might’ve been a little disappointed if I spent money on it. Very quick read, with little background info and not much character development due to the shortness of the story. Not bad, just not great.

The Island House: This would be a perfect book to read by the pool or beach on vacation when you don’t want to get too invested. However for it only being a couple hundred pages it was good enough, we love a HEA. It was giving me Lifetime movie vibes.

I actually decided to not read the other 2 “books” in this set because it was about to put me in a reading slump. I’m sure they would’ve been good too, just not my style.

Not sure these glimpses to the lives of the protagonists were worth reading. Generally, the basics to the stories were OK but there was no character development. Quick references to their “old relations / what we were” - including family backgrounds - were a scoop of foam in a bathtub, dissolving before it made any difference to the whole.
Why not write a real book that tells a story from A to Z and not from M to P ? Maybe publishing 30 to 50 of these totally insignifant “short stories” and still be called an “author” gives enough satisfaction to some.
What surprises me most is how many readers give these kind of books 5 stars. Have they ever read good books?

Think Hallmark movie romance. It’s clean. It’s sweet. That’s about it. I would give it 2.5 stars.

I don't read "clean" romance very often, but I needed a fun romantic beach read, and a free one at that. I got this on sale for, yup free, a few weeks ago, and decided to finally give it a try. I enjoyed these three stories quite a lot.

I think the author did a decent job with the attraction and build up of the romance. I really enjoyed Dawsons POV out of all of them the most, his felt the most 'real', even compared to Charlotte's somehow. I also really liked the conflicts in each of the stories.

The only reason it's 4 stars and not 5 is because the stories are lacking the intense passion and heat that I feel they could have still been given while still being "clean" aka without any sex. I just didn't feel as captured by the characters feelings and attraction for each other as I would have liked.

The descriptions of the island, the house, their backstories however was very beautiful. I just wish the passion and interest they have for each other was described as much! It's possible to do so while still keeping things PG so to speak.

This review is for "The Island House", the first book in the series. Truly a beach read or something to read when you want a break from heady, thought provoking books. This book is like a movie you would watch on a Saturday afternoon. Likeable characters, a pretty location, a bit predictable, with a happy ending.

I've now completed "Aloha Hideaway". I needed a book that was an easy read after a very dark, difficult read. This was perfect. It was light and easy to read. A reminder that sometimes, life can be pretty, easy, and that there are people there to offer support.

3 stories 1 book

The 3 stars is for the first story, the only one that seemed to be actual book length. The other 2 stories are short and tbh, rushed, ridiculous and frankly, not at all believable.

Book 1 is fairly well done, though miscommunication is the biggest conflict. There’s several places where the heroine, Charlotte, has her name switched with another character, which made reading confusing. Also, it’s stated her ex married the other woman several times, yet when she conveniently sees him and side piece, there’s confusion if this is his new wife or a gf. Odd. Questions about how this almost 40 yr old, career successful woman just accepted she can’t have kids for 11 yrs just bc she never got pregnant hit me as silly—- she never considered getting checked out? And how did she know exactly her ex had a vasectomy if he never told her since that’s hippa info? Little things like that kept it from being a better story. Plus, he’s impatient with her for non committing when she’s 4 months divorce free from an 11 yr marriage. A bit unreasonable.

Story 2 is a silly millionaire vs small business that gets resolved way easy and mega fast. It started with promise but then bam everything is TOLD to the reader instead of shown and worked out in a heartbeat. There were also so many characters to track it was hard to keep them all separate.

Story 3 is just ridiculous. Stranded 2 days and it’s made out as if they could die any second. She lances his leg and he’s right back up walking on it? She falls off a cliff with no real injuries? And he catches her? Come on. Everything is TOLD again, not shown, like a synopsis. That’s a good describer of this— it’s a short brief wrap up of a story with no true roots or digging in of who any of the characters are or why they should be together. Count me out.

Yes, these are ‘series starters’ but I expected, esp. after the first story IS book length and fleshed out, all 3 to be actual complete stories, not just an outline of one. It’s like reading the review of a tv series instead of investing the hrs to actually watch the whole thing.

So regretfully, save your $ and skip these. I don’t even have the desire to read any more in any of the series.

This was a nice collection of short stories, all set in Hawaii.
- The Island House features a recently divorced woman who purchased a house on Getaway Island, sight unseen, only to fine it occupied by a handsome gentleman helicopter pilot when she arrives.
- Aloah Hideaway Inn begins with its owner spending the night in the newest high-rise hotel on the island on a spying mission. She mees its millionaire owner when he brings her room service order while working undercover in his own hotel!
- The Perfect Storm brings two past lovers together while separately climbing in the mountains only to be caught in a storm that injures them both and offers them a second chance at love.
There were several grammatical errors that a good editor should have caught as well as some weak spots in the stories. e.g. In "Island House" the home buyer gets dropped off at her new house, by a cab, that is miles away from anything, yet she didn't rent a car at the airport, so she has no food, and no transportation. She has no idea what condition the house is in -not good- yet expects to move in on the spot.
Situations like this are in all three stories and it irked me. This is fluff, not for serious reading, no brain needed, okay for escapism.

An absolute joy to read, even though it was totally heartbreaking at times. Who knew that "starting over" meant moving so far away, only to discover that you were living a lie for so long. When given the opportunity to a clean slate, not only has Charlotte had to move so far away from all she's ever known, but she's also forced to look deep into her own soul, and heart, to dig her way back to "life".
Dawson has been dealt a very raw deal when it came to his family and his heart, but the moment he sets eyes on the new owner of the house he's been "squatting in", he knows his life is about to change. Only question is whether or not his heart will survive!
Well written and perfectly paced, this book is a true delight to read. Many tears were shed, giggles flowed, and heart thumped, even when it tripped, as this tale will sweep you away to the land of life's trials, heartache and most of all, newfound love and peace

I thought that these were very lovely stories and honestly reminded me of Hallmark movies. I think her writing is well developed, and know how to build up the characters, however, the book was all over the place at times. One minute they were somewhere and by the next place they were somewhere else, not knowing what occurred with the previous paragraph. Another thing that really bugged me was the endless grammar errors. For a published book, I have never seen so many errors in my life. Although, if you can get through those two rough points throughout this book, I believe it is worth a read.

This was my first book by Elana. She's got a fresh voice for romance that I found appealing. I found Charlotte to be a strong female character but without the ax to grind on the entire male species. She was vulnerable, authentic, and relatable.
Dawson is also a surprise. He has baggage but is not the angry, unreachable post-war type character. He is adorable, a little bit spicy, and definitely keeps the reader's attention! ;)
As an author learning to hone my skills, Elana Johnson is a fantastic mentor to follow.

fun clean romance

Loved these novels so much. Fun clean romance without the bad language and explicit sex scenes so mAny romance books have these days. These were feel good romance books with happy endings that as a christian i was able to read. I enjoyed how the author let us get to know each of the characters and feel their feelings in the novels. I love the emotion the men held for the woman. It was great

Three stories of people with trust problems from past experiences. Set in Hawaii, but could be anywhere with beaches. Quick, easy reads, somewhat predictable, but that is true of most books in this genre. I read them anyway! 😁 take away lessons: 1. Don’t try to run away from past problems before you deal with them. 2. Gobs of money does not mean happiness and no problems. 3. The truth will not stay hidden, so get it out front early.

Good Sweet Romance

This three book collection is full of sweet, clean romance with a bit of zing and some interesting twists. I'd read the first two a while back and enjoyed both. The third was just as good. If you're looking for stories made for curling up in a chair with your favorite beverage or treat, this would probably be a great choice for you.

Kind of cheesy but not bad. Listened to it in audio book while I was working to see if that's something I can handle. I wanted something light that I didn't have to think about because my job takes a lot of my brainpower. Pretty decent book but audio books just don't seem like my thing. I should have read further in the description...it was a little too clean and sweet lmao.

This collection of three full length books is a fun read. Each of the stories takes place in Getaway Bay Hawaii. Each story is the beginning of a new series and there is a bonus chapter of the next book in each of the three new series. The stories have great characters and the plots move swiftly and are delightful!

This is a review for The Perfect Storm. A romantic story set in Hawaii. Eden and Holden are hiking separately in Hawaii's rain forest when a rain storm hits. They end up trapped in a cave and have to figure their way out of the predicament. It's an exciting trip.

Pleasant clean romances which I enjoyed. I liked the characters and setting, while the stories were well thought through and told. They were light reads and something good for a holiday, relaxing garden read or a break from heavy going books. Happy endings to lift the spirit and just enjoy.

Island house… I loved this book. Charlotte and Dawson both came to the island to run away from the pain of past relationships, both family and romantic relationships. This author excels at characterization. These people are not just cardboard cut outs, you quickly get invested in their lives and find yourself almost holding your breath in the hopes that they can work it out. I like her ability to describe surroundings succinctly, no unnecessary words to prove she has a vocabulary.

First attempt at an audio book and I hated it…
Honestly I don’t know if the book sucked? Or if it was just the narrator, but her trying to imitate a southern girl, a child, a burly man, and a few other characters really made me cringe

All 3 are really good stories. Very enjoyable to read. Set in Getaway Bay, Hawaii. The first is Charlotte’s story. She is newly divorced from both her ‘dumped her and immediately married new wife (and kept the stuck up friends)’ … so she ditched them all and moved to Getaway Bay buying a dilapidated house unseen. Turns out it has an allowed squatter retired Air Force pilot who now does helicopter tours. This is really enjoyable story as she rebuilds her life and finally reconnects with family and only old place friend and falls for the squatter. The next story it turns out I read standalone and it was just as enjoyable as a re-read. Same Hawaiian town and some common characters but he is billionaire owner of the new high rise hotel that now almost overshadows her Beach side B&B. Very enjoyable 2nd read. Finally, again the billionaires in common as well as city. This time 5 years after his emotional crisis breakup. Reconnect when both climbing and there is a landslide and her clever hiking tools save the day. Yep. Liked all 3.

I only read the first of the three novellas and it was really, really bad. It needed editing! “Have fell” and “have flew” REALLY?! Ma’am, where are your past participles?! 😭 Its only redeeming quality was that the donuts at Nuts about Dough sounded yummy!

It’s a super cute short romance. No major developments character wise, would recommend to anyone looking for just a book similar to the inn on harmony island with no cussing or major smut. Which is what i was going for personally.

I finished the first of three (The Island House) - just wasn't my jam. I didn't find it believable or relatable, nor did I connect with any of the characters.

Actual read date - August 2025. Put in 2010 to not count toward any challenges since I didn't actually finish it.

If you like a good hallmark movie then you will enjoy this book. It was a beautiful love story following a difficult divorce where charlotte’s friends/sister took her ex husband’s side. She found a place to make her own including a helicopter pilot.

Enjoyed all three of this boxed set. I love to read clean, sweet, and sexy stories. These were just that. I would like to take my husband to Getaway Bay and spend some time there. It sounds like a great place to be.
