Betty J. Eadie has shared her message with millions of readers eager to enrich their lives with the powerful faith, hope, and love she has so memorably described. Now, she takes us to new levels of spiritual discovery, addressing many of the concerns that affect us most by showing how she has transformed her own life with the mind-opening vision that captivated the world. Betty expands on the invaluable knowledge and insights made known to her during her near-death experience and in subsequent visions and visitations. The Awakening Heart is an exciting inner adventure and a moving personal quest that will help us open our hearts, light our own spiritual paths, and infinitely strengthen our ability to love and be loved.
I love her story. How incredible. I would love to have the spiritual experiences she gets to have on what seems like a daily basis. I only wish she had gone into more detail on how she meditates, or how she is able to tap into God's love within herself. Action points to take away, like a good sermon gives!
So, “The Awakening Heart: My Continuing Journey to Love,” is the sequel to “Embraced by the Light.”
Both books were written by a lady named Betty J. Eadie, and they recount her near death experience and subsequent readjustment to living life.
I read “The Awakening Heart” because it says on the back cover of the book that ‘“Embraced by the Light” was the plow; “Awakening the Heart” is the seed.’
Plus, I got both books from the used bookstore for a dime.
So, I thought, well I guess these two books go together—may as well read them both.
What a terrible idea! “Embraced by the Light,” wasn’t the worst book I ever read (although it certainly wasn’t the best either), but “The Awakening Heart” is sure up there on that long list of suck I like to call, “Books that Stole My Life Away.”
Not only did “The Awakening Heart” plod along, pointlessly, but it made me lose faith in God. I mean, Eadie claims God downloaded the entire book into her mind in the form of an inspiration.
If that’s true, then how come it wasn’t better written? How can a book be divinely inspired and poorly written at the same time?
How can a literary work produced by God be written at an eighth grade reading level? I would think God would be a literary giant. He’s the inspiration behind genius. He doesn’t produce anything second rate.
A literary work that comes directly from God should never be mediocre, which is why I have a hard time accepting Eadie’s message.
The fact is, “The Awakening Heart” sucks. It sucks so bad that it makes “Embraced by the Light” seem even more horrible than it did when I read it.
I think Eadie may be a fraud. I don’t recommend anyone read anything this lady has written because it will suck. Period. End of discussion.
Eadie's continuing story of her NDE (near-death experience) is enlightening, just as her first book--Embraced by the Light--is. However, I no longer call them NDEs. I call them NTEs--near-transition experiences--because there is no such thing as death. When the body that houses the soul is worn out or is of no use to our present earthly life, our soul transitions to the next phase of our eternal life.
Betty Eadie wrote in the "Author's Note" to this 1996 book, "My near-death experience was just the beginning of my spiritual journey. I understood the importance of sharing my experience and the truths I learned, and I began by describing them in the book 'Embraced by the Light.' Since then, my journey has continued with moments of great joy and periods of great challenge. Along the way, my awakening to God has revealed many more remarkable truths, and has led me to people whose trials and triumphs are powerful reminders of why we are here. I have learned much from my journey, but more than anything else, I have seen the hand of God at work in all of our lives. It is in that spirit that I now share some of the journeys I've taken and the lessons I've learned in 'The Awakening Heart.'" (Pg. xiii)
She reveals, "I began attending two different church groups. In one church I found a spiritual expression of God's love and in the other, a knowledge of God's plan. Together, they began to fill a void in my life... I found a place for both faiths, balancing the two different belief systems in my heart. I knew from my experience that each church fulfills spiritual needs that perhaps others cannot fulfill... No one church can fulfill everybody's needs at every level; there is no 'perfect' religion for all of us... because we are at various levels of spirituality, any step closer to God is good, so we should never criticize any church or faith where people are seeking God." (Pg. 41)
Of the writing of her first book, she explains, "The book was literally given to me word for word... as I wrote, and the book was unveiled, we knew that the book was coming to me---was given to me---almost by divine revelation." (Pg. 94)
She concludes, "I was shown that we each have a purpose, and I have seen that many people try to find theirs. I do not know that we are all to know our purpose... I do not believe that it is important for us to know God's purpose for our lives. He knows, so we don't have to; we are only here to serve... By following our passion, we will tap into the energy God gives us to serve our purpose." (Pg. 223)
Eadie's first book is one of the most popular "first person" accounts of an NDE; and this book (as well as its sequel The Ripple Effect: Our Harvest) will be much appreciated by those who loved her first book.
The Awakening Heart is an inspiring account of a faithful follower of Christ. She shares many accounts of her walk with Jesus, family life, personal challenges, and life-changing illness that left her feeling a deeper connection to God and her purpose
The author also relates what she defines as a “near-death experience” where her spirit was transported to heaven, and she communicated with God. The author has Native American heritage and uses her inherited skills to enhance her ministry of love. The Awakening Heart is an exciting book full of heart, faith, love, and beautiful reasons for joy. This book is very well written, and it held my attention.
The details revealed from her first book were excellent, sharing with the world information that was not well understood; the theme of this story is the aftermath, and how she came to reconcile how to function as a human while having the knowledge she gained. In my opinion, this journey is more valuable, because it can teach US how to discover what we need to about ourselves to obtain the harmony we seek to be at peace with God and ourselves.
More detail on her NDE and the continuing experiences she’s had since. I don’t agree with all of her philosophy but still find the work interesting and often very touching. She writes with passion and feeling so that you can experience her emotions and struggles. Fascination interactions and events that really make you think and assess your own life and thoughts.
The Awakening Heart has me looking at life alot different now I've read all Betty Eddie's books and have loved all of them before I read her books I was afraid to die, I'm definitely not anymore. I would recommend all three of her books to everyone I know.
Interesting. I don't agree with everything in this, much I'm not sure of, and lots was insightful and helpful. Very interesting stories and spiritual happenings throughout. Good follow up to Embraced by the Light which gave me hope, as this mostly does too.
This was interesting to read, but I liked her other book "Embraced by the Light" better because it was more about the near death experience. This one was more about how her life was after the NDE.
Ms. Eadie experienced one of the most profound near death episodes on file. I believe there is a lot to be learned about the nature of God and our mortal journey from studying such experiences. However, while her first book told of her experience, this book tells of her road to getting "Embraced by the Light" published. I stopped reading at page 108.
While Ms. Eadie appears to be a very spiritual person, I just cannot relate to her. She talks of all her trials while she seems to almost flaunt her relationship to God and Jesus Christ. For whatever the reason, I just got the feeling that she felt superior to the rest of us poor schmucks who have never had a near death experience. I don't think that was her intention at all but I couldn't shake the feeling. When I compare the telling of her experience to that of Lori Newman in her book, "Here All Along", it's night and day as to empathizing with the person and the siutation. Ms. Newman comes across as real, Ms. Eadie does not.
Over all this book reads like a first draft fictional novel that has not yet been edited to flow. I say this because the stories are amazing and incredible. One of my Favorite stories in this book is when she tells of slapping the face of the driver, whom nearly hits her daughter. I think that I like this admission because it shows the human inability to control instinct, even with the proof of Jesus existence. She saves a man from suicide by praying for him through the phone. In fact she uses prayer as a weapon to ward off evil deeds. Towards the end of the book she seems to take on a superhero persona, costume and all(native dress) she says it's a security and reminder of her to fulfill her mission. God is love and god exists.
This lady is a out of her mind and wants you to travel out of yours with her. There is nothing wrong with feeling spirituality and wanting to share a "Touched by God" experience but this woman is way out there. She didn't uplift or inspire me. Unfortunately, even if I didn't think she had fallen off the deep end, I wouldn't have enjoyed this book. She is a very poor writer. Fiction or non-fiction, it isn't worth your time.
Although her first book was enchanting and kept you waiting to see what happens next, this one seemed to lack the detail and surprise as her first. It was a bit disappointing that she didn't actually describe things as well as she previously had. I enjoyed the book but it was somewhat a repetition to Embraced by the Light, with lack of details.
This book was an elaborated version of Embraced by the Light and was poorly written. It got bogged down at times even without the typos. Some of the theology rang true to my own spiritual growth while other "insights" left me wondering. So I guess I could say that I came away from reading it with a lot of unsettled questions.
This is not my normal type of book, but sometimes in life you need to be a little creative in what you do and read. This book did just that for me. I read this at a time in my life where I need a little guidance and it helped. It makes you think about things a little more clearly.
What happens after her near-death experience. Liked it even better than the first book because I always wondered how u can go on with a normal life after something like that. Interesting how her faith changes as well.
Read it years ago and was deceived by it. Once I realized that I had been deceived, I ripped it up and threw it away because I didn't want anyone else to buy that copy and be deceived as I was.
