This book helped me to better understand not only how we talk to one another, but how we listen. Understanding the mental and emotional filters we use and why will help me put them aside and speak (and listen) more clearly. This book simplifies a process we use in the majority of our waking hours - communication. I have always thought of myself as a good communicator, but did not realize how many assumptions and forecasting I brought to the table. I will definitely be picking some weeds out of my own communication process.

Whether you work for yourself, or are part of a team, how we communicate determines our level of success. Not just monetarily, but respectfully. The every day life examples help drive the lessons home. Understanding our thinking and emotions helps get them out of the way so we can understand others, and be more understood by them. A good read for any manager, business owner, or for that matter, even a customer who wants better service. If you are easily understood, then you are more likely to get what you need so that you can in turn provide others with what they need. The quotes at the beginning of the topics are a great starting point for each section.

An interesting take on communication and its many obstacles and advantages. It definitely makes one think about perspectives and the lenses through which we perceive our lives and the lives of others. Worth a read.
