His greatest inspirations are the video game Bloodborne, the manga Berserk and The Lord of the Rings. I'm taking a bit of a dive into reading more indie works and today, I treated myself to Calum Lott's short stories which are set in the galaxy of Valsollas, the world of his upcoming novel. The short stories are available for free via the author's newsletter and more are coming!

Crushers thrusts the reader right into the middle of the action, along with names and terminology, and sweeps you along for the ride. It's so short that there's no point in my telling much more than the blurb already says, but I will say that I enjoyed it. You get a feel for the universe and some of its core concepts (I'm guessing anyway). But what I really adored were some of the descriptions that gave me cosmic horror vibes and touched upon a bit of existential dread. Overall, a fascinating intro to Valsollas!
