One hundred stars!
“Sometimes a hypocrite is nothing more than a man in the process of changing.”
This has to be the most overwhelming, consuming book that I have read. I had so much fun reading and I loved it soooo soo much and while all of them are 5+ stars this one out of the four would be on the lowest rank, I still love it so much and it has one of the best scenes in the books but honestly I felt so tired after finishing this lmaoo. It was very easy to read though. The first volume was a little slow paced and it was building up to something, I was enjoying everything that Brandon was throwing at us. His prose is so interesting and vivid, I get consumed every single time. It was as if I was there with them over there and I loved every second of it. There's more than one main character but every book follows one characters past giving them somewhat of an edge. Book 1 had Kaladin's, book 2 had Shallan's, and book 3 had Dalinar's and this was the most interesting point of view despite Kaladin's being the one I enjoyed the most solely because I was waiting for this for so longgg and I wanted to know so much about Dalinar which was kept as a mystery and I am so happy that we got it.
I just don't understand how he doesn't forget! there are so many characters main and side, so many plot points! How does he remember and wrap them around each other so perfectly. After book 2 I knew this would be setting up for something magnificent so I was prepared for it and the way it was laced layer by layer was so satisfying to watch and as soon as we dropped onto volume 2 it was a wild ride, the last 300 pages were everything it was so awesome the battle was consuming and honestly there were some scenes in that book which made me gasp and yell and be in awe at the same time, only Brandon things I swear. Can we also talk about the heartbreaking scenes, the bitchy scenes and the mind-blowing scenes? because they all delivered. The plot ate!! and now that I Have read book 4 I just love how this one set it up and as I am starting book 5 my excitement cannot be contained. Also the way it was 1400 pages??? and I read it in less than 3 days. Aced.
“Accept the pain, but don't accept that you deserved it.”
The characters, most of them got on my nerves in this oner but their characters arcs are just too good.
Kaladin, omg I cant- why is my favorite character, the character who gets tortured the most like how much torture is too much torture. Is peace for him too much to ask for because my man is done, he needs happiness please HE DESERVES IT!! but whatever he's going through you can always count on getting the job done. I love going through his emotions and how he felt. I really enjoyed reading the reunion scene with his parents and I also loved that one scene in that Alethkar palace also can we appreciate the mind-blowing character development for his arc?? I also loved the way Brandon explored his guilt when he was in Shadesmar also the confusion he felt when it came to Moash, I just hope he starts hating him so he can kill him and after rhythm I know that will be the case so I can't wait to read book 5!!
It's honestly so beautiful when you come across a character that you feel so much for and a character that you would be willing to do anything for and I have to say that Kaladin for me is that character, the way he is so easy to love. Lmao I think the amount of love he gets from the fans should cancel out the anti love thoughts that he has. I am willing to step in and fix him brandon! One meeting with me and he can have a character who he's happy with (aka me) I hope the book 5 is good for Kaladin because book 3 and 4 most certainly were not. Also that satisfying Amaram part!
“The question,’ she replied, ‘is not whether you will love, hurt, dream, and die. It is what you will love, why you will hurt, when you will dream, and how you will die. This is your choice. You cannot pick the destination, only the path.”
Shallan, I feel like I had a hard time reading her point of view this time around, while I love her and understand what she has been through and how she is still struggling with her trauma, the three personalities and all the secrets that she was keeping from Adolin whereas him being truthful and trusting with her made me a bit mad, The personality thing got way too confusing for me at times lol, her story was interesting to an extent yes but I was more invested in the other storylines but I like the direction her story is going in and the events that unfolded in book 5 definitely made it worth the read, I feel like her relationship with Pattern is also underappreciated. I love those two so much!!
“The most important step a man can take. It's not the first one, is it?
It's the next one. Always the next step, Dalinar.”
Dalinar, ufff I was so frustrated and confused by his character (in a good way) like I was having major trust issues because I didn't know that the flashbacks were going to go the way they went, it pulled a whole 180 from what I was expecting and honestly I had so much fun and it was full of being unpredictable like I got the gist of what was happening but it was honestly so good and it made me so vary of him like I didn't wanna trust him lol but I actually was second guessing his moves near the end like I was yelling NO when one confrontation happened during the sanderlanche because everything that happened before that was leading to the one specific even and it was just so heart racing + I was mad at Dalinar for how he treated his wife and I might not forgive him at all for that but I appreciated reading his pov, him going through his grief and finally becoming the man that he is now and note to you: don't play with my heart like that.
“Ten spears go to battle," he whispered, "and nine shatter. Did the war forge the one that remained? No, Amaran. All the war did was identify the spear that would not break.”
Adolin, <333333 I love him so much! He and Kaladin were the only two people that did not annoy me once and I appreciated it so much. I also loved how he gave Shallan space and how understanding he was of her lmao that one conversation that they had, had me creasing!! I also loved how honorable he was and how good his action sequences were, right now I'm at a high from finishing book 4 so my love for him is at an all time high, he has come a long way and his character development shines very bright because if you look back you'll find so many changes! Also, I loved how that Alethkar palace scene affected him as well and how it was explored as well during their trip to shadesmar. Jasnah I was missing her so much in book 2, I loved how she took charge in book 3 and I loved the ending for her!! Also her with renarin was amazing.
“Yes, I began my journey alone, and I ended it alone.
But that does not mean that I walked alone.”
Bridge four were the sweetest group ever. While the lopen is my fav, Teft growth really hit in this one! and I am so attached to him now. Elhokar, He was finally getting his redemption arc and it was going so well that scene was so sad he was almost about to say it and his son ugh I feel so bad for him! Moash Die bitch. Navani we love smart women and she delivered. Wit/Hoid has to be one of the best characters, he's everywhere and I refuse to believe that he is not good.
“Life breaks us, Teft. Then we fill the cracks with something stronger.”
The action sequences were filled in this book the one in that last battle was amazing, I overall love the whole fight sequences and the action that we got, the battle was so well written like 60 pages for that ufff loved it, he gave us all. My heart was in my throat and I was at the edge of my seat he had me gripped. The worldbuilding and the magic system in this one I think was the most well explored, we got to know so much more. We explored so much more, the whole Urithiru tower scenes were goosebumps inducing and everything related to it, to the knight radiants orders and the fabrials, everything was done so well! there were no question everything was handled smoothly we were not spoon-fed the information but we also didn't have to go crazy over it so I liked it
Overall, I would definitely recommend!
Some quotes I liked:
“To love the journey is to accept no such end. I have found, through painful experience, that the most important step a person can take is always the next one.”
.
“I will take responsibility for what I have done,” Dalinar whispered. “If I must fall, I will rise each time a better man.”
.
“You cannot have my pain.”
.
“The most important words a man can say are, “I will do better.” These are not the most important words any man can say. I am a man, and they are what I needed to say.
The ancient code of the Knights Radiant says “journey before destination.” Some may call it a simple platitude, but it is far more. A journey will have pain and failure. It is not only the steps forward that we must accept. It is the stumbles. The trials. The knowledge that we will fail. That we will hurt those around us.
But if we stop, if we accept the person we are when we fall, the journey ends. That failure becomes our destination. To love the journey is to accept no such end. I have found, through painful experience, that the most important step a person can take is always the next one.
I’m certain some will feel threatened by this record. Some few may feel liberated. Most will simply feel that it should not exist. I needed to write it anyway.”
.
“Love wasn’t about being right or wrong, but about standing up and helping when your partner’s back was bowed.”
.
“In my painful experience, the truth may be simple, but it is rarely easy.”
.
“Power was an illusion of perception, as Jasnah had said. The first step to being in control was to see yourself as capable of being in control.”
.
“Plan every battle as if you will inevitably retreat, but fight every battle like there is no backing down.”
.
“Life was about momentum. Pick a direction and don't let anything—man or storm— turn you aside.”
.
“The question is not whether you will love, hurt, dream, and die. It is what you will love, why you will hurt, when you will dream, and how you will die. This is your choice. You cannot pick the destination, only the path.”
.
“Your name is Lift, right?"
"Right."
"And your order?"
"More food.”
.
“Life was so much harder, but potentially so much more fulfilling, when you found the courage to choose.”
.
“Do you wish," Wit asked, "that you could go back to not being able to see?"
"No," she whispered.
"Then live. And let your failures be part of you.”
