This book was recommended to me by a fellow romance/mystery/suspense buff. This was the first time I have read anything by this author. I wasn't enthralled with the story, but I wasn't bored, either. The hero was appealing enough, but his "big secret" bugged me. The heroine was intelligent enough, but still made some bad choices and seemed unable to deal with her teenaged daughter. The "villain" was fairly easy to figure out, and his/her comeuppance was brief and not very satisfying. The romance was skimpy and there was no time to savor the moment when the hero and heroine are on the same page. Boy, the more I write, the more I wonder if I even liked this book! Despite all my negative comments, I did enjoy reading around what I felt were flaws, so a three-star rating seems appropriate.

I can't truly enjoy when I detest the characters.

Kate is a martyr. I get it that she loves her daughter, but she lets her push her a lot, and blame her for many things. Her daughter is 13! She should be told the truth.

Alison is a brat. I get it that she's 13. But her lousy behavior is no excuse.

And oh, deus ex machina. And suddenly, Alison happens to find the key to a penthouse that the owner rarely visits, anyway! And suddenly she could hear bits of convo concerning her mom, from outside of the door! And suddenly she finds out the door is unlocked! Ugh. Stuff like that.

First read by this author, I thought it was a good mystery, filled with twists and turns. It will be interesting to read the next one as I don't feel like there could be much more to the story, but there must be!

I thought that this was a strong plot for a Crime/Thriller and it certainly kept my interest. The downfalls for me were the characters who all felt a little too pat and flat, and the romance which came out of nowhere and had less emotion than a pancake.

While I liked Mitch and Kate, I just felt that there was no chemistry, and didn't really care whether they had a relationship by the end of the novel.

If you enjoy watching Law & Order you should read this, and if you don't this might just change the way you feel about those criminal investigation shows. Absolutely a great read, lots of suspense, believable love story, not too cheesy! I loved it. :) Read it.
