'Oxford, England. The city of dreaming spires, dark secrets... And desire.'
From USA Today bestselling author Roxy Sloane comes the second installment in the blazing hot dark academia romance trilogy from - perfect for fans of Ana Huang. Emily McIntire, and Lauren Asher!
The man I trusted might be the monster I’ve been hunting for…
I came to Oxford to uncover dark secrets, but instead, I found desire.
Anthony St. Clair. The future Duke of Ashford. He’s shown me a sensual pleasure I never dreamed was possible, but now I don’t know who to trust.
Is he the saint who will protect me? Or the sinner who will be the death of me?
Roxy Sloane is a romance junkie with a dirty mind. She lives in Los Angeles and loves writing sexy, complex stories about pushing the boundaries and risking it all.
I feel like this was written by a completely different author than book 1. The deeper we got into the story the more unrealistic and unhinged it got especially Tessa and all her fuckery throughout this entire book and Saint just… going along with it because he loves her??? I am honestly so confused but I gots to see it through my boy.
I totally get how ridiculous it makes me to want the plot to be less annoying, but I'm sorry-not-sorry! I praised book 1 for not making the MC's one-note and that is EXACTLY what they were in this one. Tessa was entirely about revenge in this one to the point she was making every single bad and stupid decision she possibly could and Saint was entirely driven by his trouser snake.
It's disappointing because this book that was marketed as a secret society/dark academia might have this surprise corporate/scientific espionage aspect that I find really unique and I wish we could delve more deeply into that but the FMC is so set on the secret societies that she's losing the forest for the trees. And I guess that's the point but I was so exasperated with her!
The relationship is feeling like these two are going to burn out, like... they'd be in a BuzzFeed article titled "proof romance is dead" when they break up years down the line. Someone in the article would be quoted saying "I knew they were destined to fail because they used literally any disagreement as grounds to just jump into bed together." Literally every bit of adversity, their answer was just to start ripping each other's clothes off. But Tessa is literally burning this guy's life to the ground and he's just like "oooh, you! *nom nom nom*"
Speaking of, all three stars is for the spice, which was unspeakably hot! And I will continue reading to see if my theory about the whodunit is correct, but this was as disappointing as a middle book usually is otherwise.
Holy shit what a good sequel, flowed very well after the first one, and with how it was seeming to be wrapped up i wasn’t really sure what the third book would be about BUT THAT ENDING?🤯 Holy shit I did not see that coming.
GOD this series is so good I’m eating up the final one already.
"I’d fucking burn the world down if you asked me to."*
✔️ Spicy romance 🌶🌶🌶 ✔️ Dark academia ✔️ Secret societies ✔️ Intriguing mystery ✔️ Public places
I’m so glad I gave Roxy Sloane a chance with this series! I’m completely in love with Tessa and Saint. Saint is *without a doubt* the book husband of my dreams—do not argue with me on this. I don’t find it hard to write this review because we haven’t reached the end of the story yet; this type of trilogy just can’t be a standalone.
Tessa and Saint are such a powerhouse couple, though neither of them fully realizes it yet. Saint’s unwavering devotion to Tessa is perfection, especially towards the end of this second book. We see Tessa struggling with the reality of her ongoing investigation, and Saint’s constant support for her is heartwarming. Watching him stand by her, even as her mission threatens to unravel parts of his life he holds dear, really highlights his understanding of grief and loss.
Tessa walks a morally gray line with some of her decisions, and at times, you might even find yourself cringing. Roxy Sloane has once again proven herself the queen of the cliffhanger, and waiting until April for the final book will be pure torture after the last line in this one!
Okay the plot in this was absolutely ridiculous lmao like not even plausible, but I can’t stop reading?? Literally finished this in a few hours. Now, I have to finish the series.
Really? That ending? Bad, very bad. Already the behaviour of the h towards the H in this book was something I disliked, reading the first chapter of the 3rd book is turning me off more.
I was more interested in knowing the mystery revelation rather than the romance, now with this ending, that mystery lost the appeal for me. Don't wanna know anything more. Done with the series.
How can someone put so much spice, mystery, intrigue, and raw emotion into one book?! Saint and Tessa have a vice grip around my heart and I already know I'll be devastated when I'm down with the next book. I think I have an idea of how this will end, but honestly who knows because l've changed my mind about 14 times already lol anyway, this series is everything!
Edit: just finished the last 20 pages and never mind, I wasn’t prepared for that and half of my prediction is now wrong 😂
This series has me so conflicted. On one hand, the storyline is entertaining but on the other, so so cringe. The whole scene with Max and Tessa…i don’t understand….
Yet, i say this with full knowledge and intention that i will read the last book. It’s entertaining enough that i gotta see it through at this point.
"You make me so crazy, I can't see straight sometimes, but I'd fucking burn the world down if you asked me to, if I got us closer to ending this mission you're on. When will you believe it? When will you finally understand, I'm with you until the end?"
I LOVED THIS ONE!! saint and tessa were perfection. he really is her ride and die and i liveee for it!!! there was so much spice and drama and tension and action i was just hooked!!! and omg that damn ending😦 SHOOK immediately starting the last one cuz i need answers neowww
professor and student, mystery, investigation, spicy
I think this might be one of the first times that I have read a book and genuinely been like “this would have been so much better if there was no spice at all.” Like, the plot has potential for sure. But you keep breaking it up with gratuitous spice that in my opinion is not needed.
Tessa has become incredibly unhinged in her search for truth and Saint just going along with it because he loves her. Okay sure!
I stand by my previous review where I said that this all could have been one book. Take out the unneeded spice, and the plot lines about the parties, and it could have been 1 maybe 2 books total. Still enjoying myself though. Will head directly to the next book.
3 ⭐️. Book two in the Oxford Series felt very mundane. It was a lot of the same experience as book 1 but with a little more mystery and a kidnapping. I like the MC’s relationship and the mystery aspect, but book 2 felt slightly repetitive. However, the last sentence made me immediately download book 3 and start.
Pretty good for a second book in a trilogy, 4/5⭐️ 4/5🌶
The series continues with more mystery, a secret society, a taboo/unconventional age gap relationship and even more glitz and glamour. Definitely a super spicy read but with a fast paced plot. Once again it could definitely use another round of editing but the story telling and plot made it fairly easy for me to look past the mistakes. There were a couple of pretty frustrating moments where the main characters choices seemed a little extreme but I appreciated how they advanced the story, and the main male character is amazing. The cliff hanger did not surprise me but I am excited to see how everything is explained and will fit together, so I’m glad that I have the final book to start on.

Thanks to the Author and Good Girls PR for the ARC!
I thought I had this plot all figured out by the middle of the first book and alas I still feel like I do. That said, still a wildly entertaining smutty story—I mean just check out my highlights 🥵
Review: Imagine hunting down the skeletons from your sisters closet and on your journey all the suspects are your significant other’s circle of friends! What would you do? How would you feel? Passion and pain both tugging at Tessa’s heart she vows to avenger her sister, Wren. But how can you avenge someone’s past if you don’t know whether they are dead or alive!? Tessa is stuck in a world of starting a new life with a dark man of her dreams but is that enough to keep her in Oxford?
Once again Roxy Sloane left us on a MAJOR cliffhanger!! I cannot wait to grab the 3rd book from KU! I am invested now!!
📕 Tropes: Dark Romance, Dark Academia, mystery, suspense, romance, love
