At two hundred and twenty pages this is quite a bare bones biography. Apparently Isherwood had reservations regarding whether a heterosexual was qualified to undertake the task. He was right... Mr Fryer seems to be oblivious to the level of state persecution of homosexuals in pre-war Britain, and in fact for decades to follow. He also uses gay as a synonym for homosexual... it isn't.
