Fifty percent of Americans are one paycheck away from being homeless. Another study said four out of ten Americans couldn't cover a $400 emergency without a loan. How could that happen? It's easier than you think; it's too real, and maybe it has happened to someone you know.

Broken Chains is a fictional story about Amanda, but it could happen to any of us. She made a mistake but believed her faith in God could make her marriage work, and she’d have her happily ever after. Then, life happened, and her life became all too real. Broken Chains is a story of hope, redemption, and second chances, but finding your way back isn't always easy.

Amanda blamed God, and it took her a long time to “seek God with all her heart.” (Jer. 29:13). She thought God had strayed from her — “But why me?” God never left Amanda or gave up on her because he always had a plan, but Amanda wasn't ready, and in her anger towards God, she rejected his love. Without God, her life crumbled until she hit bottom. It was only one step back to God, but it took her a long time. Amanda lost everything she thought mattered but found everything that really mattered.

Amanda's story takes us back to Glencoe where familiar characters help point her back to Christ as she is running from Him due to the brokenness in her life. Can be read as a stand alone yet why short-change yourself as the previous books are so good you shouldn't miss out.

Favorite quotes from the book "Money might get you out of debt. You’d live better. But nothing in your life will change until you find your glory in God."

"God doesn’t promise that our second chance will be trouble-free. But he does promise eternal life through his Son. He also gives us the joy of His salvation, and in Christ, that is a life lived happily ever after.

What an amazing story about Amanda, whose life seems to go from bad to worse. Would you rather live your plans for your life? Or God’s plans? How is that working out for you? This author is a story-teller, and has a unique way of writing that brings you into the story, so easy to read. There are many surprises, and of course, Beasley, who knows things! Reagan Lamb and friends help out in ways only they know (and the reader, of course)! Other friends from prior books play big parts too! Excellent book, this one hit very close to home for me in my past, so it really touched my heart! I really enjoyed Amanda’s story. You can read as a stand-alone or as part of the series for more good stories and background.

Another wonderful story by R. Marshall Wright! He always does an amazing job of showing how God intervenes and has a greater plan. That is true with Amanda’s story. So many familiar faces from previous stories show up in Broken Chains, so I do recommend reading the other Grace Like a River Flows stories. Just so you can enjoy when old friends pop up!
As always, I highly recommend this story to anyone who is a fan of R. Marshall Wright or looking for a story that may touch a little close to home….so you know you’re not alone.

Great story

I loved Amanda's story. I always enjoy Mr Weights story telling...never a dull page. This book was extra special having many of earlier characters from previous books in it or mentioning what happened to them. Last but not least, always, the spiritual parts were excellent and inspiring.

No spoilers! If you’re looking for a faith based book that addresses real life issues, here is your book. The author tells the story of the hearts of many interesting characters in this story, and the good characters may feel like your friends in the end. You will laugh, you will cheer, and you may cry both happy and ugly tears. And your weary self may well be uplifted! Five stars!

Main characters are new but several are returning.

Great book. Main characters are new but other characters return. The author has a unique approach to telling the story which required some adjustment on my part. But his approach works well.

Great story of second chances

Sometimes, bad things happen. Do we blame God or let him help us rise above the storm? It's tough. Read Amanda's story. You may find some similarities with your own.

Sometimes we can be bound up and not realize it, or we choose to ignore it. God can send us red flags (or use the Holy Spirit to nudge our hearts) and try to warn us, but we don't always pay attention. We want things to go our way instead of His way, and end up chained to the very things/people He tried to warn us from. Broken Chains is Amanda's story of redemption and a second chance. She believed in God and she did have faith.... but was it in God or was her faith misplaced? She was in a manipulating, dissolving marriage and facing homelessness with two daughters. Amanda was given many red flags, but through some of her own choices.... she hit rock bottom. She was angry at God, she thought He'd abandoned her. But all the while, He was there. He even sent help for her through some of our ol Glencoe crew 🤗 & Gabriel, and of course Beasley is there too. (You cannot have a R. Marshall Wright story without Beasley!) Amanda had to learn that she only needed to take one step back to God to receive her second chance. He doesn't walk away, we do. When Amanda took that one step back, God started to break the links in the chains that were binding her. He had plans and a future for her.
Every time I am blessed to read a new story by this author, I feel as though I could be sitting on the floor, looking up and just listening to the greatest story ever told, by the master storyteller himself. His writing captivates, just brings you into the lives of the characters through real feelings, and life events....it's hard not to be touched by one of his novels. They have all touched my heart in one way or another. Each one can be read as a stand alone, but I strongly suggest starting with the first in the Grace Like a River Flows series.
