I'm Hannah Haze, a why choose paranormal romance author known for my sweet omegaverse books and not so sweet magical academy series. If you enjoy a touch of humour, a lot of steam and plenty of swoony, romantic moments; strong fmcs who know what they want and mmcs who vary from the devoted to obsessive, then I am the woman for you!
My other loves include long romantic walks in the countryside, undisturbed soaks in a hot bath and even hotter stories. I have one husband, three children, a very naughty cat and a new fluffy pupster. When I’m not writing stories, I’m thinking about stories, listening to stories, reading stories or dreaming about them.
DNF 47% The author adds nothing new to the Academy/RH genre.
The professor (who is supposed to be 31 years old) acts like a 16 year old. FMC's two other fated mates hate her "just because" and continue to have sex with anything that walks, the "bad boy" who is mysterious and helps her in subtle ways have ALL been written, exactly like this and it's just SO boring.
Mean girl and OW drama, boring.
At 47%, no advancement in the plot, just day to day living from the perspectives of the FMC and MMC. Boring.
FMC has one or maybe two friends, not new and boring.
FMC is "strong" and wanting to escape, yet she yields to everyone at all times and doesn't make any plans to escape and reclaim her life.
Boring. Boring. And everything has been done before.
Author should also learn what comma splices and run on sentences are as they will help her dialogue better.
dnf at 40% Never have I ever wanted to commit murder more in my life (on characters).
I rarely ever dnf books but on the off occasion I do, I don’t rate them. HOWEVER I feel I deserve to give this one star as retribution for its sheer fucking audacity.
One of the love interests publicly stuffs her inside a locker and calls her little piggy. LITTLE PIGGY. I can’t do it no more. I looked at reviews to try hype myself up to continue, but apparently another love interest dumps literal shit into her mouth publicly too?!?! I don’t even want to know what else happens. Go away.
Happy Release Date to Fractured Fates!!! I really loved this. _______________ I LOVED this book. This is book 1 in a new paranormal why choose series. This book has: - Why Choose / Reverse Harem - Fated Mate Bonds (very slow-burn) - Bully Romance - Academy Romance - Age Gap - Student/Professor - Hidden Identity - Animal Sidekick (a pig named Pip!) - Bi-sexual MC - Mind-reading powers
This book is definitely has some pretty heavy bullying throughout this book, so if that's not your jam, then you might not like it. However, I think it's such a good set-up for a lot of groveling in book 2 (I loveeee me some groveling). There are also some other heavy triggers in this, so check your content warnings.
I really like Rhianna. She is a bit naive, which isn't usually my favorite, but it kind of worked for her character's background. There's a lot we still don't know about how she grew up, but I liked that she is so clueless about how the world and school works. I do think she gets pushed around a lot in this book, and I got a little bit tired of her just rolling over. I hope she f*cks shit up in the next book and makes all of these guys regret how they've been treating her. Stone, Tristan, and Spencer certainly deserve it.
The cliffhanger for this book absolutely killed me. I need book 2 ASAP.
This was so good!! Thank you to Hannah Haze for the eARC. I loved it! I already want to re-read some of my favorite parts.
This is more straight down the middle at 2.5 but I rounded up because it kept me interested and turning the pages. However, it left me pissed off on numerous fronts.
First, I’ve only read a few of this authors books and wasn’t impressed. I found that the stories got monotonous in the middle and it just killed almost every single one of them. In fact I had pretty much written her off. This book synopsis did intrigue me though so, what the hell, let’s give it a try.
Overall, it wasn’t a horrible book. The idea is good but I found the characters lacking. The heroine wasn’t necessarily a Mary Sue but for living the life she has she sure did roll over a lot and take the abuse. She just let people abuse her. She had one or two “strong” moments but they didn’t last very long. I wanted her to stand up for herself more. I wanted her to display the fortitude she talked about. Ultimately I just wanted more from her.
Now the guys…the guys were part of the biggest issue. She has 4 mates, however, only two of them recognize the mate signs and are actively trying to undo it. One of them essentially mind rapes her and degrades her repeatedly. The other two are abusive assholes. They didn’t show any redemptive qualities. They bullied and humiliated her repeatedly. One of the guys physically attacked her multiple times but called it “training” - we’re talking throwing her on the ground and tackling her. Plus, she gets nauseous when they are hooking up with other women. She doesn’t understand what’s going on but as the reader we do. They feel drawn to her and can sense power in her but still treat her like shit. Of the four only one showed the ability to be a decent mate and only because he somewhat accepted the mate pull and ended up saving her life in the end - but it came with a price…to her, not him necessarily, but to HER!
My other big issue is that I felt like the author dangled nuggets of info with no payoff. At the end we know absolutely not more information about our heroine that we did in the beginning. Mind raper found out some big secrets but do we get even a hint at what they are? Nope! The only decent on finds a file on what we are led to assume is her mom but do we get a hint at what’s in there? Nope! The other two abusive assholes recognize s long lost power that she may have but is it elaborated on? Nope. As a reader I don’t appreciate this tactic. Does it keep someone interested and reading? To an extent but overall it just serves to piss people off. There was basically NO payoff in this book. However, it is interesting enough for me to read the next one when it comes out. But there is a caveat…the heroine needs to be a hell of a lot stronger, the Heros need to beg - I’m talking on their knees crawling over glass - for her forgives, she needs to tell them to fck off and actually make them pay for their abhorrent behavior to their MATE, and then she needs to kick some major ass magically. Am I holding my breath? Only partially because I can see the potential but the author hasn’t proven she can pull it off.
I hate finished it because I’ve had too many dnfs lately. The writing was terrible, the story not original.
FMC is “not like other girls” 🙄. She is an idiot as well. She refuses to wear her uniform and then is surprised that everyone else is wearing uniforms? When her roommate warned her? Fmc went from a stick figure to curvy in 2 weeks, when the food situation still wasn’t great?
The MMCs are also lumbering idiots. They all stomp around in rages - but they have no reasoning for any of it. If you are showing mmc pov in a bully romance, you have to show their motivation beyond “me mad, girl hot.” None of their actions in this book made any sense to me.
Why is the common room a bedroom? I thought all the rich kids had nice suites? Shouldn’t it be like a rec room? Why would they allow a pig when this girl has a roommate? Why would the powers that be insist she get an education and accommodate her pig request but not give her needed materials for school and tutoring since she’s never been to school in her life.
Some of my questions were answered in this one exchange:
"It's like ... it's like she's torn back a layer of your skin ..." I shake my head. That's the other thing that reveals itself when he drops the bored act. He has a fucking poetic way with words. It left me captivated as a kid, now it pisses me off.
If this is sarcasm I’m missing just let me know, but if the author thinks this is poetic I now understand why the whole book was so awful.
a pretty ok read if you're craving bully academy RH featuring your typical popular jock, golden boy, hot professor & mysterious dude - and you have nothing else to read.
that ending was criminal, but also chef's kiss.
the writing is a little juvenile for my taste. and the fmc grates on my nerves a little bit lol
nothing really happens in the first 60% of the book except for the fmc getting bullied left and right. and every time she gets enough of it and wants to leave, she finds excuses the next day not to. this happens like probably three separate times where she's like everywhere else is better than here, but then the next day she's like but maybe I kinda like school. well school does not like you miss maam.
to be fair, she does have bad guys chasing her and wanting her dead, so leaving is not really the smartest choice considering she's bad at fighting and using magic. BUT.
everywhere else is literally better than the academy where everyone hates her 😭 I'd honestly take my chances with the bad dudes than go another day in a place where every single person thinks my shit is worth more than my being lmao and like if I die, I die. and at least it would be at the hands of badass villains than a whiny ass bitch like Summer.
the MMCs are also mean for absolutely no reason. some might hate her because she's unregistered and the stereotype is unregistered magicals are like the stinkiest garbage. that's ridiculous, but I get it. but the rest *ahem, Tristan and Spencer* hate her because of what....? she has a pet pig?
I knew there would be some bullying going into this bc that's honestly why I read it, but it just doesn't make sense to me. maybe they want to hate her because they want to fight the undeniable pull or whatever but do they really have to bully her then? 😭 if you don't want her then just stay away bitch lmao???? from their POVs it seems like they hate her so much, like she's wronged them personally but she's never done shit 😭
at one point she said to one of the MMCs she got held up by an asshole, and the MMC was like "you ever wondered whether it's you that's the asshole?" uhhhhh fuck no? again, she's never actually done anything wrong, she's not even bitchy or anything so why the fuck would she ever?
and PLEASE I don't usually mind ow drama or the mmc being a manwhore especially in RH because it adds to the drama but I HATEEE it in this. not really ow drama tho more like the MMCs being manwhores. Just a mention of it here and there is fine, I DO NOT need to see it in action. bleugh.
anyways, still entertaining tho at least. AND I SEE THE POTENTIAL so I hope I'm not wrong. Book two I go!!
I just knew I was going to love this book, and it did NOT disappoint. The fated mates in this book 🤭, it just reaffirmed my love for fated mates especially in RH/why choose books!! I absolutely love all of the characters even though there are three who are complete assholes and two who are straight up bullying her 🫣, but I just know these men will make up for it and I mean, the TENSION??? Like these men HATE that they want her and how she is on their minds 24/7 🤭🤭. Like I’m loving this giddy feeling while reading this book which I haven’t felt in a little bit. But y’all, I could NOT stop reading this book, like at first I only had difficulty in the beginning because I had a headache but once that went away, I seriously could not stop reading. I mean I finished it in a day!! But I will definitely be starting the next book like right away, I need MORE. And y’all, I went into this knowing it’s an incomplete series and the final book is coming out in October, but I am not ready for the cliffhanger that the fourth book will give us and having to wait like 3 months 😩, but I legit couldn’t wait to read this series like it was literally calling out to me. And y’all, this pig better live the entire series or else I’m going to go insane.
So we meet Rhianna, a 20-year old, an unregistered magical (which is a crime in this world), who has a pet pig named Pip, who has been on the run her whole life with her aunt from the authorities and everyone else for reasons we don’t know yet. That is until, Rhianna gets discovered by the authorities enforcer who is named the “man in black” literally the entire book and she feels a tug in her gut to him…but he is there to take her to Arrow Hart Academy, a requirement for magicals to attend until they are 21. We also meet Stone, the hot grumpy professor (who gives Lance Orion vibes for all my ZA girlies, and instead of telling everyone that they aren’t special, but just tells her, iykyk) who assists “the man in black” to escort her to the academy. Then of course, there are two popular guys in school who are best friends but are absolute assholes to her and they are Tristian and Spencer who honestly cannot leave this girl alone but torture her any chance they get. But there’s a certain someone out of that duo, who gives into this thoughts and desires and kisses her 🤭. And there may or may not be one more guy who may be a potential mate that we learn about in the end…But y’all everyone in this damn academy cannot give this girl a break and bully her any chance they get, except her roomie, Winnie—thank goodness—, and is basically her only friend there.
So if you don’t like the bullying trope, even though it’s only 2/4 maybe ⅖ guys, you might not like this, but for everyone else, you NEED to read this. The tropes are magical academy, fated mates, bullying, asshole MMCs, RH/why choose, age gap, and student x professor .
Favorite quotes/scenes:
“What the fuck is that?” (Stone) “My pig.” (Rhi) “Why the fuck does she have a pig?” (Stone) The man in black shrugs. “Is she mentally unstable?” (Stone) “Possibly.”
“You going to kiss me back, sweetheart? Kiss me back.” (Literally swooned 😩)
I had high hopes but it was not it. You mean to tell me her 30 years old professor, who knows that she's his fated mate (a rare gift) just splurges literal dung on her so that everybody sees after she worked in the sun on the brink of fainting? After witnessing her other fated mate railing girls left and right?
I get there is bullying in this book but wtf? And the heroine is just like I will not be this weak girl and then proceed to do literally nothing.
I think it was a waste of time for me and no groveling in the world could make me forgive this kind of shit.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
DNR: just heard a lot of ow drama. Unredeemable men as they sleep with other girls constantly even knowing the fmc is their true mate. They are mean for no reason to her and humiliate her while the mean girls bully her.
I actually had no idea why they hated her so much. I think it's because she's new????😂 They just don't know her???? Like just sit down and be nice to her and maybe she'll give you that info, idk?
While this book may not be anything profound in the world of paranormal academy romances, I did really enjoy it and will definitely be jumping into the rest of the series! This book is kinda like if Zodiac Academy & Blood Oath by Morgan B. Lee had a baby. I’m always a sucker for a good bully romance and this one is definitely intense. If you liked the vibes between the heirs and Vegas in ZA, then you will probably enjoy Rhi and her potential men. Now I say potential because this is definitely a slowww burn, which personally I am very here for. We don’t get much smeggsual action or romance in this book except for a couple strange kisses (like really though- they come out of nowhere), so I’m excited to see the romance and connections blossom in the next books! It also appears that we are going to have 5 love interests, and the more, the better right?😌 Anywho, for all my Why Choose book lovers out there- this gets my stamp of approval😘
Seeing the 4 stars review really got my hopes high.
Currently 100 pages in and this girls knows nothing but whining. She's so God damn stupid that I wonder how the mmcs are gonna fall in love with her. I expected a mature girl who knows how to survive, not someone who just wants to runaway from things without making the most out of it.
Also- I think people would hate it if a near stranger roommate touched their stuff. The FMC decided that her roomie wouldn't mind if she used her laptop without permission.
115 pages in and the main characters aren't all that great. "Surprisingly, she actually possesses a nice looking rack, her tits are a perfect handful"
The pig had more personality than her. And broh, is she that important that they would allow her to keep a pig 🐷? It's a supposed prestigious academy. The FMC has no interest in becoming better. It's all high school shit.
They all call her pig girl. Bhai, where the hell is ACTING YOUR AGE.
If I wanted the age play, I would have read Dom/Sub, Daddy/Babygirl books.
I DEVOURED this book. Fated mates plus bully romance PLUS reverse harem???!!! An ideal combination for me. I loved all the love interests, I loved the side characters and Rhi, our main character, plus I enjoyed the plot. But the fated mates truly made this book for me. So so good
Nothing special about this book whatsoever. I don't recommend it more than I recommend it. Alas, it's not the worst book I've ever read in my life. 2.5
OW drama all over the place. Some like it, some don't, at this point in life it's not as fun for me anymore but I can handle it.
The writing is fine but it is nothing special, you won't remember it after.
Love interests are the worst I've met. I hate them. I hate them so much I want her to do something bad to them. For the love of me I won't stay here to read them get together. I am over these sort of books and men. It's not hot, it has never been hot. Is that who you want in your life girls? Jerks that couldn't care less about your physical/mental health, who constantly bully you and mix you with dirt while fucking everything that walks (while knowing about you being their 'mate')
Damn. Where is self-respect? Give me some Rhysand or Cardan. This is what I mean when I say I want enemies to lovers. Not whatever this is.
However, the characters are horrible. The MFC is ignorant and weak. She showed NO growth at the almost halfway point. The guys are awful just to be awful. They sleep around even knowing they are mated to her. They are deliberately mean knowing they are mated to her. These are not heroic characters.
I'm not a fan of bully storyline because how do you start a romance with someone that treats you like crap?
Overall Opinion : It’s been a while since I have picked up a fantasy romance and I can’t even tell you guys how much I am loving this one! This series was amazing and I remember when I started this one , only 4 books were out in this series and I binged them all back to back. Then after sometime when the last book came out , I was probably one of the first ones to read it lol.
The dynamics in this one are good and the best thing I liked was the character chemistry. That is often hard to achieve with RH but this author got the perfect balance of that and it made the series pretty good. All the heroes are crazy but I remember the way she handled Renzo because he grew to become one of the favs. Somehow all the heroes have their own take with her and they make it work which was the best part.
Definitely recommending this one to all the dark romance loving people out there.
I really enjoyed The Bonds That Tie series and this gives similar vibes so I am sad I didnt like this one more. I think it’s because I am not a fan of most of the characters, especially the FMC. She is so fucking whiny, I cannot stand it. It is possible that it is the person doing her voice in the audiobook so I am going to continue because I am still somewhat interested in the story but fuck I am close to stopping.
