Accident? Suicide? Or Murder?
Searching for the answer may just get her killed.
The last thing Meg O'Brian wants is further contact with her ex-husband, Don, and his young trophy wife. She's ready to move on, to start a new life, maybe with a new man who knows nothing about her past failure at love. But now Don is dead, possibly murdered, putting their 15-year-old son's financial legacy and emotional security at risk for the second time in the year since the divorce.
Meg must investigate Don's tangled business affairs and turn up the heat on his tawdry widow. Unfortunately, the only one who can help her discover the truth is the man who destroyed all her illusions two years ago—her cynical, burnt-out-on-matrimony marriage counselor, Mike Warren, the guy who knows her history all too well and won't hesitate to use it against her.

Alicia Rasley grew up in the placid old mountains of SW Virginia. She teaches writing at a community college and is a guest lecturer and writing advisor at a state university. Between sadistic bouts of grading papers, she hangs out and talks sentences with co-blogger Theresa at the Edittorrent blog. She lives now in the flatlands of Indiana with her husband Jeff, who is also a writer and runs a foundation to benefit villages in Nepal. For a two-writer family, there is remarkably little artistic temperament. But the house is filled with crammed bookcases and overflowing magazine racks.

Until Death by Alicia Rasley is a Belle Bridge Publication, released in July 2013.

Meg is still reeling from her divorce to Don. Her life had been build around him and their marriage. They built a business together and raised a son, but then Don does the stereotypical midlife crisis thing and starts up an affair with a much younger woman, whom he eventually married. Recently, however, Don seemed to have realized that the grass may not have been greener on the other side after all. But, just as Meg begins to finally be able to put Don in the past, he takes a tumble out of a window and falls to his death.
Shocked, Meg jumps into action, by helping her teenage son, Tommy, deal with his father's death.
Then the will is read, and Meg is stunned that Don didn't provide more for Tommy. So, dealing with the insurance company, Meg is further outraged by the claim that Don's death was a suicide. Determined to prove Don would never commit suicide, Meg comes to the conclusion that his death wasn't an accident either. That leaves only one other option-murder.

Meg is a character that is easy to feel empathy for. She doesn't have a lot of confidence in her appearance and after the divorce her ego was shattered. So, it was fun to see Meg getting a lot more male attention that her nemesis- the new wife- Wanda.
The mystery of Don's death- a suicide? accident? or murder? went on a little longer than it should. The clues Meg grasped onto that had her convinced Don's death was murder, had me scratching my head. I just didn't see the significance of the clues. It was a little confusing for me.
Meg's weariness with men was also relatable. Many women have come to that point. But, Meg got a little carried away. She was not helping herself with her attitude, although it was understandable to a point. Meg needed to let go of the past and give herself permission to live again.
Hopefully, with Don's death finally put to rest, Meg will be able to find not only contentment, but courage to step beyond that and grab the bull by the horns.
This is a quirky romantic suspense novel. It was absorbing at times, but tedious at other times. Overall it was an interesting story. For those of you that enjoy your mysteries without a lot of SC, language or graphic violence, you will find this one appealing.
I really like this author. I have read some her historical romances and was impressed with her ability to write about more 'mature' adults and the issues that face us in real life in regards to marriage and long term relationship ups and downs.
Overall this one gets a C+.

Just when Meg reached some stability after her divorce, her ex dies and she's thrown into a mystery - was it suicide... or murder?

I enjoyed the touches of humor and the uncommon setting of the Silicon Cornfield.

Until Death was a hard book to finish, the story started off slow but intriguing at times. Towards the middle I began to dread the thought of returning back to it but overall, I’m happy I finished.

I wasn’t convinced that Don had committed suicide and “knew” exactly who did it and why. Meg was also not convinced and although for the wrong reasons, I am happy she advocated for him! What mother in her shoes wouldn’t?
The “Trophy Wife” seemed to careless and was just happy with the inheritance, she rubbed me wrong from the beginning and that’s why they say “you shouldn’t judge a book by its cover” bc I was somewhat wrong about her situation.

I ached for their son bc a child his age quite literally needs his father but Tommy was no dummy and knew more than we anticipated. I wish Wanda would’ve did more, I feel it was her obligation. The least she could’ve done was honor her husband by setting his son up for success.

Lastly, I just want to add.. Even those closest to you will do what they have to in order to win in life..

If I could do a star rating in the negatives, I would.
I'll save you the time

Already successful woman's ex husband dies and has written their teenage kid out of the will....no more alimony or child support.... whatever will she do? Ex husbands newer younger wife seems greedy. Former marriage counselor swoops in to provide the "will she /wont she" dichotomy that went about 4 chapters worth of boring.
Random farmer is the scape goat. Business associate is the bad guy.

It's really awful.

The premise of the story was intriguing, but I found the pacing to be a bit slow, which affected my engagement. I ended up skipping through a large portion and felt underwhelmed by the reveal of the perpetrator. It didn't connect with me as much as I had hoped.

This one was pretty good. Not a "can't put down" but one that got me thinking about what was going on, and if I thought the good guys were actually good or not. I enjoyed it and think it's worth a read.

Since it's older, it should be pretty easy to get from the library :)

This is a great storyline of divorce and trusting your X and following through to prove he was murdered and did not commit suicide. Also, trusting and finding love again

Took me a bit to get into it. Little odd of a storyline and guessed the culprit early on. The ending was rather anticlimactic.

Interesanta pieeja detektīvam, tomēr atrisinājums nebija tik ļoti interesants un galvenā varone ik pa laikam izbesīja.
