This book reads like one of those 1980s bad miniseries like "Shogun" or "V." Way to dramatic and takes itself much to seriously. There is way too many characters to keep up with or really care about. We have Russian military leaders. American political, military and law enforcement people. We have a patriotic televangelist. The five mafia families of New York just happen to be in Florida at the time of the invasion. The main character is an ex-C.I.A. man turned author. Don't know Mr. Aherns past, but I think this is called "yearning fiction?"

Long story short. The Russian and Cuban armies in Cuba are duped into invading Miami by a crazed Russian commander after he finds out his son has died in Afghanistan. The Americans have to get them to retreat before a nuclear war is brought on. Lots of blind patriotism and feel good rhetoric. Lots of hammy love scenes that make you feel uneasy. Kind of like watching your Grandparents getting frisky at the family reunion. Jerry Ahern has done much better.
