Is this some half-assed attempt at personal redemption?🔫

The future is bright and dangerous, especially for Bio-synthetic
(cyborgs)rebels like Stryker living in the sewers.

NOTE: Everyone’s right eye.

Carin Taylor AKA Velocity is on the run with her dog, Ninja in the sewers.... Meanwhile, the high-class living in skyscrapers is having a ball.

As a fan of Cyber-Force from back in the day, I was intrigued by a rebooted/revamped take on the team. I went into it hoping for some sort of cyberpunky superhero story set in a visually exciting world. Give me a little intrigue, a little espionage, and some fun updated takes on the original characters and I would have been a happy camper. That's what I was hoping for anyway. Instead what I got was a generic, dystopian, muddled world where everything just looked like it was made out of garbage. Literally, even the cyborg soldiers armor seemed to be cobbled from debris. They used the same approach with the narrative too. I felt like I was reading something cobbled together from the remnants of a hundred other more interesting stories. And the characters, ugh, where do I start...well spoiler alert: most of the team dies in the first few issues, so yeah, there's that. Yah.

Image fans will remember this shiny, perky team from the ‘90s, but they definitely didn’t look like this. This is a very gritty reboot that changes everything we once knew about them, save for that fact that they are still cyborgs. Formerly soldiers of a corrupt leadership, Morgan Stryker’s team are escaped refugees, struggling with their cybernetic implants. Meanwhile, the evil corporation is set on weeding out the less fortunate and the obsolete in order to usher in a new era of blah blah blah. There are some mildly interesting twists and turns and its great to have Marc Silvestri’s art back, but otherwise, the story is fairly typical and filled with lots of violence, epic posing and cheesy one liners. In other words, it’s a reboot that tries to bring this story into the new century by being more brutal, but is still solidly grounded in the ‘90s superhero style of storytelling.

The entire five issue series and this volume are available for free on Comixology thanks to Kickstarter funding.

I got this ebook as part of the Humble Comics Bundle: Sex & Science by Top Cow, but I was worried that it would depend too much on the original run of cyberforce, so I was not planning to read it. I only did so because of a recommendation by Matt Hawkins on the back pages of Aphrodite IX: Rebirth, Vol. 2 to read it before I go to Aphrodite IX/Cyber Force #1.
Starting with the positive, though the story was a bit confusing at first, once I got used to the jumps in time, it was actually built quite well. I enjoyed learning the background story of how the whole Aphrodite Protocol started, and I liked the twists and turns of the plot, especially in the end.
I did not like especially how the characters were built. Whether this is true or not, too many times I felt like I am missing because I did not know the characters beforehand. Some characters are very briefly introduced, and I found myself turning back to that introduction page several times just to see who is who. To top that, a large number of the named characters don't survive for long enough. and it felt like they were there just because they had to be mentioned to connect to the original series.
In general I liked the art, except in some of the fights when it was too confusing to understand what was going on. It wasn't amazing, compared to Stjepan Šejić work I just enjoyed before that, but it was adequate.
Over all, this is quite a nice volume, though nothing spectacular. It was worth the time, and I would certainly read the next one. Three stars out of five.

Update: On the second run three years later I enjoyed it more and would give it at least 3.5 stars out of five.

Un concepto interesante que sufre de todos los clichés de narrativa característica de su género.

References to 47? Yes, please. Also a computer wired to every smartphone on the planet via an app, enabling astronomical calculations that can predict the future. An extinction of the human race because of the imminent depletion of natural resources. A man determined to use his organization to kill the human race and rebuild it as something better. Several hard-as-nails, no-nonsense characters and one child willing to save the planet. Sounds good to me.

The story is heavy on the text, but little of it seems superfluous. This universe is complex and it's presented to the reader bit by bit with flashbacks and dialogue. Only half-way is it clear what the direction is and, even though the good guys win, the road to that victory is worth treading. I didn't read the original series, but this one feels far more mature than anything mainstream from the 90's. Even the first arc is lengthy, involves several characters and pivotal events. The artwork is also of a high caliber, gritty and bloody.

CDI's Project Aphrodite is intended to create a utopia on Earth after triggering an almost complete eradication of life. Carin, the daughter of the project's designer finds out about this and, defying her parents, sets out in search of Morgan Stryker.

I think its interesting that Top Cow chose to make the original 90's Aphrodite IX run still cannon, but reboot Cyberforce in its entirety. I need to sit down at some point and compare the 2 different versions, but I seriously doubt it will be a patch on this. Cyberforce Rebirth, at least this 1st volume, is very impressive.

Pros
It takes the mostly threadbare backstory of the Aphrodite comics, and start to give it a solid foundation
Art is very nice, and fits the tone perfectly
Decent characters and designs - intrigued to learn more about the cybernetics of this world
Main plot of this volume doesn't contain much in the way of filler, and is slick. Its contains a good mix of action, and intrigue
One of the main villains - reminds me of a mix of Red Skull and Karl Ruprect Kroenen (from the 2004 Hellboy Movie)

Cons
My only real disappointment was the supporting cast. Only a few of the members of Cyberforce really get any back group expansion, and even then, its mostly Stryker.

Worth giving this a go

I would probably give this a three and a half, though I wish they didn’t feel it was necessary to kill so many of the characters. This felt a bit like a more violent version of the Ghost in the Shell mythos, but with more apocalypse. Twisty, turny story with lots of secrets and betrayals and pretty evil characters. I found it entertaining if sometimes a little confusing. Kind of want to read the original series instead of this reboot,

Great art. I like that a cyborg dog was in the middle of the story.

The art has improved with time, but this isn't the Cyberforce I remembered, when Image started all those years ago. It's definitely not a rebirth, as far as I can tell. It's more like a twisted version of the original.
Worth flipping over for Marc Silvestri's artwork, but otherwise, it's skippable.

It's a pretty interesting story so far. There's a lot to uncover and I'm very curious in what will happen in the next volumes, since it all is still a mystery of what's going on.

I liked it

Not the best story not concise or deep character development but it was alright. Liked the artwork and wished Marc Silvestri had drawn part of it.

Released in 2013 following a successful Kickstarter campaign, Cyberforce Rebirth see the return of a Top Cow classic. Cyberforce was created by Marc Silvestri, with this volume being co-written with Matt Hawkins, who also wrote the Aphrodite IX Rebirth comics.

Carin Taylor has escaped from the corporation CDI and is searching for the one man who she believes can help to stop the end of the world. During her escape, she encounters a group of CDI escapees, but will they help her? Or turn their back on her?

To be honest, I felt little connection or interest in the individual stories of the characters, as they were fairly standard. However, I thought the overall plot and ideas presented in it were good and that's what caught my interest. The idea that a powerful company discovered when the world will end and devise a plan to survive it through the development of humans that could, was interesting. Of course, there is a downside to the plan in that it may not include the whole species and even see many innocents die.

At times, I felt the dialogue was immature, mostly the insults and quips from the various characters, so if you like immature humour, then this will be perfectly fine. If not, then this may be a problem. There are also a lot of pop-culture references dotted throughout which I felt were a little forced at times. There's a fine line between making references tasteful and including them for the sake of it. It isn't excessive, but some just didn't feel natural.

Like all the Top Cow comics I have read the artwork is on top form. Kho Pham penciled and inked the comic while Sal Regla also did inking and Sunny Gho did the colouring. Stjepan Sejic also added some final art polish to the pages. The pages

Colour coding is present for both narrated and spoken sections to show specific qualities of the voice or who is talking. This makes it easy to follow the dialogue, especially with the black coloured sans font that is used for all text. Troy Peteri did the lettering.

Although it has its flaws, I enjoyed the comic. The dialogue and characters are pretty standard, but the main plot and ideas behind the story are interesting. Plus it has great artwork. I recommend Cyberforce Volume 1 to fans of the Cyberforce and Aphrodite IX series as well as those wanting an easy to read Science Fiction Action comic.

I backed this book on Kickstarter and i'm very biased. So, i won't write too much, because i'm not sure i'll be able to keep myself objective. Although, maybe. With that disclaimer in place...

I do think this was a good story and a good way to bring Cyberforce into the present. However, storytelling felt a little extended. If this were a mini-series only it was a good introduction to the characters, a way to bring them back. Honestly, reading this was a completely fresh start. I didn't really recognize the characters as the ones i once knew, which is a good thing. It's a great way to bring in new readers and give older readers a feeling of familiarity. Again, with that said, it didn't feel complete either. Which, wasn't the point. It was a re-introduction of the characters into the present. However, if there wasn't an issue 7, then it felt like the reader wanted more.

Hopefully, that makes sense.

The art was beautiful and flowed well with the story. It felt very much like Top Cow in the best way possible. The coloring was perfect. Just a great tone being set for the book.

For new readers and old readers a like, you'll get a great story you'll be sure to enjoy. With that foundation being set solidly in place, you'll want to make sure to read what happens next. This did have a solid end, an end that left the story wide open for the story to continue. Matt and Marc and company did a great job of bringing the team back and a great job of keeping the story going.

Cyberforce: Rebirth, Volume One is a race against time book that sets our primary protagonist of Carin Taylor against the corrupt government that is run by her mother! :D The book is a fast paced throughout with her mother security forces running rampant throughout killing men, woman and children to get to her which are all featured throughout which gives the whole book a ruthless but very dramatic and emotionally packed booked! :D

Throughout though the somewhat spoiled Carin rises to the challenge though and this makes you want to cheer for her and her compatriots as they struggle to right the wrongs in their society so inspite of the nature of her opponents it does have that feel of hero coming into the own made good feel that will have you losing sleep in order to find out what happens! :D

The art style is clear and concise with characters expression and stances clearly selling the scenes and supports the script perfectly leading to a hair-brained incredible action packed and humorous dramatic book that will keep you guessing as to what on Earth (and elsewhere! :D ) is going to happen in its hectic frenetic antics! :D Brilliant and highly recommended! :D

This is the collected issue of the first several issues of the reboot of Top Cow's Cyber Force comic. I've got to be honest: I was not a fan of the original. I mean, I read an issue or two and it all just felt like an excuse for Silvestri to draw the sort of things that he thought were awesome to draw. Silvestri is talented, but his taste in things isn't mine and it all felt kind of pointless to me. The new book's plot is radically different than the old one. It's partially about grappling with the rights of individuals against the good of the species and it's also significantly about the personalities of the people involved. In the overall, I have to say that I definitely liked it. There are still ways in which it's over the top at times, but it was quite engaging and much more thematically complex than I expected. It was well paced as an action comic and it did a very good job of driving me to turn the next page. I really was pleasantly surprised by this book.

I found this alright, it just didn't seem to have a good enough hook to grab my complete attention. I read this from a free issue from comixology. The plot follows, a rich girl escapes her parents after finding out they are part of a secret cabal that's is highly advanced and trying to end the world with the intention of saving it(?).
She joins up with some rebels, a bunch a cyborgs that the secret cabal created to do their dirty work and have escaped, hiding to avoid being killed. The plot is similar to a ton of other stuff, like They Live, even down to secret signals used to make the average person not see advanced mutated cybernetic soldiers but just regular cops, to maintain the conspiracy.
The artwork is decent, its just that for me the story doesn't have much to drag me back to continue reading.

Cyber Force returns in a not-too-distant future – quite good stuff

This relaunch of the Cyber Force series has covers by Marc Silvestri but the artwork is not by him so fans might want to take a step back. However the writing by Silvestri and Matt Hawkins has produced an interesting plot with all sorts of twists and turns, many unexpected. The colours are just right, reasonably subdued and the artwork is clear and detailed. The story involves many characters from the previous incarnation of Cyber Force which should please fans.

Having never read the original, I wasn't sure what I was getting myself into, but for free I figured I couldn't go wrong. Fortunately, that assumption was correct as I found this very enjoyable, although it took me around twenty pages or so to kind of figure out what was going on. The storyline has an interesting premise (even if we have heard similar ones before) and a few interesting twists as well. In the end I'm interested in seeing where the story goes from here, which it guess was the purpose of offering this 5-issue arc up for free on Comixology. Recommended.

Solid and good quality comic. One of longest comics I've read so far and it didn't dissapoint. I felt the storyline was really good and it had some interesting characters especially Stryker. The plot was definitive and kept on point which is good since some comics tend to defer away from point and focus more on other things.

The illustrations were good as well and they weren't done in bad taste but told the story so at times you could tell what was going on without having to read. Overall I really enjoyed it and am interesting in any others related to it.

Wow, talk about being committed to a reboot. Full review to follow, but quick thoughts:

1) this is a complete reimagining of cyberforce. same general idea and themes, and familiar characters, but definitely a fresh start being rebuilt from the ground up.

2) sterotypical and cliche in parts, particulalry towards the end of the trade, but still well done and interesting in the ways it unfolds.

3) fun stuff overall with a lot of potential for future issues.

This is actually very elegant reboot of the 90s Cyber-Force franchise. Rewriting old indie-superheroes as a smart, modern sci-fi comic. Actually much better than I was anticipating, while still scratching that old nostalgia itch.
