Osuke Kuroe is loved by all kinds of creepy ghosts and ghouls, while Nijio Yuki has such powerful spiritual energy, it scares off every spirit around. This unlikely duo, who seem worlds apart, have now teamed up together to help the supernatural relocate and find safer places to live. When a new job comes in, Osuke and Nijio are tasked to stay overnight in an inescapable mansion. But this time, they’re joined by their colleagues, Takao and Ten. After walking in on an intimate moment between them, Osuke becomes more and more self-conscious about his own relationship with Nijio…
This second installment has 2 newcomers and wow, they’re a feast for the eyes! They’re a more experienced team who are supposed to coach Osuke on the job, but it’s clear the author is using them to nudge Osuke toward his gay awakening.
Also, this naughty author finds a lot of opportunities to create unintentional sexy scenes in between their jobs. I totally approved!
Honorable mention to the cute zashiki warashi. Honestly, he seems like Nijio and Osuke's child sometimes. 🤪
This series has a special place in my heart. I have both the physical and electronic books and I often find myself re-reading the series. It’s my guilty pleasure and I honestly would buy the merchandise if I could.
I love how this story is continuous but also has separate stories in the form of cases. Each story progresses the characters’ growth and their relationships with each other. The characters don’t seem complex and maybe they aren’t, but they have an unknown past that shaped their current personalities. The cases themselves are primarily based on folktales or urban legends and aren’t very scary or developed. The series takes a more simplistic approach to executing them and I personally liked this.
The main premise of this story is related to Osuke and Nijio. In this volume, their relationship grows stronger and they become slightly closer to each other. We also get a bit of Nijio’s past through past acquaintances as well as Osuke trying his best while understanding his own weaknesses. Throughout this series, I saw Zashiki-warashi as their child and hope the three of them continue to have more cute interactions in future volumes. That said, there isn’t much romance or romantic feelings yet between Nijio & Osuke, but it’s a slow burn and I’m liking their interactions so far. It feels genuine and I like how they aren’t rushing things.
There were two new characters introduced in this volume. Actually, there are many but Takao and Ten stood out. It’s evident both are lovers, as well as they are both warm and supportive. They both felt like older brothers, with Ten reassuring Osuke and Takao guiding Nijo to stay calm. I personally would love to see Ten and Takao’s backstory and more of them in this series.
The artwork is pretty but also inconsistent at times. I don’t know if it’s because I’ve read this volume so many times but the artwork seems awkward and is missing details sometimes. For example, Osuke and Nijio vary between looking younger or older throughout this volume. That said, I appreciate how the author has given them a change of clothes. I really love and enjoy when author’s do this because it makes it feel realistic and I love seeing my favorite characters in different styles. There aren’t many iconographic or scenic backgrounds given the cases in this story but the characters are expressive through their blushing.
Overall, I enjoyed this volume and I love this series. Though I can see some not liking it because the romance is slow and the cases aren’t very engaging, which is a fair point. I personally like the light-heartedness of the story and seeing Osuke and Nijio’s feeling grow through the time they spend together. I’m also curious to know if there’s a hidden plot, since Osuke and Nijio having the complete opposite constitutions is kind of odd. Nonetheless, this is a series I love and I highly recommend everyone to give it a try!
This manga is so fun! Osuke Kuroe is loved by all kinds of creepy ghosts and ghouls. While Nijio Yuki has such powerful spiritual energy, it scares off every spirit around. This unlikely duo, who seems worlds apart, have now teamed up together to help the supernatural relocate. In this volume, Osuke and Nijio are tasked to stay overnight in an inescapable mansion. This time, they’re joined by their colleagues, Takao and Ten (who are so hot!). After walking in on an intimate moment between them, Osuke becomes more and more self-conscious about his own relationship with Nijio. Their bond is tested when Nijio needs to rescue Osuke from the house. There are a couple of other stories where the two have to work together doing things like holding hands and getting very close to help relocate some creepy spirits and Yokai.
I love the tension, the growing bond, and the fun ghost stories. I definitely recommend picking this one up. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I loved it! The characters are great! it's so much fun with the ghosts and the new mysteries. This volume added two new characters and I now love them too. I hope they show up in the next volume too. The main mcs gets a little closer but still no closer to true feelings. maybe next volume. I can't wait for more!
Man this keeps getting better and better! The story? The art? The subtle hint of romance? Man I’m eating this up! Not to mention that last part of the last chapter 🤣 love that fox, doin fates better..
The second couple is so hot. I would love a spinoff/prequel about their relationship. I love the art style so much. The heavy defined line work is so satisfying. Their relationship is starting to pick up a lot more in this volume and they're building trust and developing feelings. it's really cute and I hope it picks up even more in the next volume.
Despite all the accidental kisses, I'm actually not sure how this one is going to emerge from its slow burn. I didn't feel a ton of genuine chemistry in this volume - at least not between our main couple, who spent most of the time being protective of each other but also sweaty and uncomfortable at the idea of a Romantic Bond.
Which is something the other pair who works for their agency - Takao and Ten - demonstrates in spades. A tiny part of me actually...almost wishes this series was their backstory, because they're fascinating and very, very much in love. I'd like to see how Takao got all his scars, why he's so fiercely worried about Ten's safety, and why he and Nijio do not get along at all. Although the latter will probably be a plot point as the series continues?
I did like this volume, and I think I'll like it more when I have more of the series to look back on - which will take so long because only four volumes are out in Japan right now, volume 3 won't be out in the US for another five months, and who knows how long it'll take Osuke and Nijio to start seeing each other the way everyone else in the supernatural world appears to see them. As a fated pair, in a way.
There's a tiny bit more of Nijio's backstory - with a former partner who'd turned into a stalker because she was far more invested in him than he was in her - and Takao berating him for being too careless and putting others in danger. When Nijio calms down and treats Osuke like a true partner, their cases go incredibly smoothly - so smoothly that the last one in this volume barely has a blip of plot to it. It's mostly just an excuse, I think, for another possessed neck-licking encounter and a kitsune revealing a glimpse of how the pairs got their powers.
So definitely very, very intrigued by the rest. I also love seeing Osuke getting stronger and more confident. Even though he's not powerful on his own, he's determined and brave and loyal, and it's easy to see why Nijio would value him as a partner and a friend. And eventually something more, although right now they're still uncomfortable doing anything other than Holding Hands For Work Purposes.
Still a very fun goofy story. It still skips quickly along at a fast clip. I love how many ghosts and spirits we get to see, but wish we could actually sit in one long enough to breath. It would actually give Osaka and Nijio time to interact. Even with that complaint, it’s still enjoyable.
The second set of partners are just WAY too visually similar to the MC’s, though. I often had to take a double back to make sure I knew who was talking. It would be fun to get more of their backstory, but I would want that in a spinoff. There is already so little time dedicated to the MC’s own relationship without adding in another couple’s story.
I think this was the strongest one so far! The emotions in it are so strong for all the ghosts and their reasonings. The variation of ghosts and motivations and how the heroes must defeat or rehome them is so well done! I also really love the new hunters introduced. They seem especially interesting and worth a spin-off.
Don't sleep on these books. It's a fun, romcom bl. I love the little monster or ghost of the week episode or chapter. Loveable characters who have real depth, growth, and personality. Absolutely wholesome, with a nice dose of the supernatural.
It literally got Better and Better. I just kept liking it, and how well written it is makes me happy, have found a new manga to always read over and over, a new one to obsess over ngl-. But the slow burn is actually burning me, am not complaining but I am
There are new ghosts, new mysteries, and new partners! Osuke blushing all over the place and getting possessed again, while Nijio gets a bit possessive himself of Osuke.
Funny, unique, and very entertaining. I managed to pick up from where we left off without having to do a re-read. I need more of these 2 and the bonus couple. Pretty sure their boss is a demon
The art is gorgeous. The story is cute. The romance is a slow burn. I love the horror elements and urban legends. It is a very wholesome read despite the spooky stuff.
