I received a copy of this book to read in exchange for an honest review as part of the book tour hosted by Zooloos Book Tours.

Vex Not Her Ghost is an atmospheric story with paranormal elements that starts off slow to set the scene and build the tension of the plot.
Caitlin lost her mother at a very young age under very mysterious circumstances and has always longed to know what really happened to her. When she inherits her family home thirty years later, memories slowly start resurfacing from the past, and Caitlin is convinced her long dead mother is forewarning her of dangers to come.
I loved the mystery element in this book and was captivated by the characters, setting, and plot from the first few chapters. The book made my hairs stand on end a few times as parts of the book left me feeling uneasy and that something isn't quite right but not being able to put your finger on what that suspicion was.
I loved how the pieces merged at the end and the ending pulled the rug out from under me, that's for sure!
This was a very enjoyable read from start to finish.

Thank you @zooloosBT for letting me be part of this tour and reviewing this book. Vex not her Ghost is a contemporary genre and Very well written and intrigued me immensely. Fantastic plot. I enjoyed reading this book a lot, and it had me thinking if Caitlin would found the answers she was looking for about her Mother death. The story is about Caitlin Mum who died when she was four years old and 30 years later Caitlin inheritance the family home and starts to recover memories from her past. The story is set in Dorset and I did like her friend and the Gardner and his aunty . They all seemed like they wanted to help Caitlin get the answers she wanted. There was a great twist at the end and I did not expect that as an ending. It did shock me, but a great ending. Looking forward to reading more from Gill Calvin Thomas in the future. 5 stars.

Vex Not Her Ghost was a really enjoyable, atmospheric read. It does have a slow start but I think this was perfect for building the tension and wondering what would happen next. This is only aided by the writing that keeps you draws you in and then hooks you. I particularly liked how we got different points of view in chapters which helped keep the mystery and give us further insight to the characters.

At it’s heart it is obviously a ghost story but there is so much more here and the author manages to merge several plots and themes together to create a captivating read. You always get the sense or feeling something isn’t quiet right. It’s not in your face but subtle I really liked how that added to the unease. I have the say the ending did throw me for a loop but in the best possible way. I am certainly looking forward the future novels after reading this debut.

As always thank you to ZooLoo’s Book Tours, the publisher and the author for the copy to review. My review is honest and truthful.

As the saying goes, 'never judge a book by its cover', or by its title for that matter. This wouldn't have been an obvious book choice for me, and I'm glad I had the opportunity to read it as part of the book tour.

Vex Not Her Ghost is a haunting story and one woman's search for the truth as to what really happened to her mother.

It's a slow burning read, full of mystery and intrigue that compels you to keep going. The author has created some credible characters in Caitlin, Charlie and the rest of the 'cast'.

And don't even get me started on the ending! I wasn't expecting it, thats for sure.

A great debut novel that I wouldn't hesitate in recommending. Thomas is definitely an author whose future books I'll be keeping an eye out for.

How could I resist this with it's promise of the paranormal and a great mystery too.
This front cover and title really drew my attention initially and I couldn't wait to see what this was all about.

I found the start a little slow but as I got used to the writing style and got more involved with both the characters and the storyline, I found that I was much more invested and gripped by what was going on.

Essentially a ghost story to begin with, but with the other story threads weaving around it, we see how the overall mystery of Caitlyn's life unfolds.

I enjoyed the way the characters were presented and developed through the book and I was completely stumped by the surprise turn in the middle and the shocking ending too.

This was full of atmosphere and had me on edge throughout.
A great read and really well written debut.
I can't wait to see more work from this author.

This book started out on a slow burn for me. Something about it seemed weird. Okay, it's a ghost story, so weird is good, right? Caitlin's mother died when Caitlin was a little girl. Was it an accident or something more sinister?

Overall, the writing was good; I didn't see that ending coming. I was expecting something completely different. I'll definitely be on the lookout for more books by this author.

When Caitlin was four, her mum died in mysterious circumstances. Her stepfather sent her away, and she didn’t return to her Dorset childhood home until her stepfather died.

Caitlin wants answers about her mother’s death, she decides to employ a private investigator for help.

Caitlin gains strength from feeling her mum’s spirit around her in her home.

I thoroughly enjoyed this story, I loved the friendship between Caitlin and her best friend, Sally.

The story had a well-written plot, and I thought the twists were clever.

This was a story that I did not want to put down. I was gripped from the very start.

My thanks to Zooloo's Book Tours and the author for a copy in exchange for my honest review.

Here is my review for Vex Not Her Ghost by Gill Calvin Thomas

This was quite an enjoyable read which I truly enjoyed and I got into it almost straight away right from the start. Caitlin is in her thirties when she comes into possession of a family home she didn’t realise she was a part of when her father dies. Her mum had died when she was four years old and had made a will leaving it to her with a trust fund. She had lived with her father till she was eight then her father had taken her to a farm in Pembrokeshire and she stayed there with two elderly people who became her parents until they died and she had to fend for herself. Luckily she had met Sally who was her best friend and she helped her through everything. She wants to renovate the house with the money she has and live in it. Then she meets Dennis and very soon he moves himself in so he’s living with her. He’s nice and loving for a few weeks then becomes unaffectionate and tries to make her change her ways. Dennis is a big man whereas Caitlin is tall, she is no match against him. She has had enough of him living there and wants him out but her friends are worried what he might do when she tells him. They make plans but one night he upsets her so much, she tells him it’s over and throws him out. When he says he will be back for his other stuff, she says it will be in the garage. They change the locks the next day. While Dennis was living at the house, Caitin thought she was seeing the ghost of her mum. Caitlin and Sally start clearing the attic three boxes at a time looking for information about Caitlin's mum. After a few boxes, they strike lucky by finding a backpack with a biscuit tin with some photos, letters and a paper cutting. The paper cutting is about a family dying in a skiing accident. The letters are from her mum addressed to her, telling her about her childhood. It told her enough to know that George Rose wasn’t her father. Armed with the new information, Bob asked his aunt Ann and she talked to Cailin about her mum. Then she spoke to the solicitor who told her about the house and he told her she had a cousin. She met cousin Arabella who acted really weirdly and in the end Caitlin couldn’t wait to get away. Then she followed Dennis to Arabella’s cottage! Just what was going on. Ann had some pictures of George Rose with someone Ann vaguely recognised so Annt a name for her. Now it was time to employ the services of Charlie Bond, a private investigator. She confirmed who Arabella was and had photos as well. They then checked out David, Senior partner at the solicitors who liked tennis so much. This was a brilliant read. Really well thought out and inventive. I liked the storyline. The story was extremely well written and everything was so well plotted by the author. I found I just couldn’t put the book down as I was so invested in the story I constantly wanted to know what happened. Just what was the deal with Dennis and Arabella? Was Dennis hoping to get back with Caitlin to get her money and the house? It really made for gripping reading. It’s the first time I have read this author but I totally enjoyed this story so I looked forward to reading more from her.

I love the cover, the title of the book and the supernatural element. I love a good ghost story and Vex Not Her Ghost did not disappoint.

Caitlin Rose has inherited her mother’s house, a run down manor house on the Dorset coast. My favourite part of the country. Lucky Caitlin, except it’s not that simple. The house not only holds many secrets, it is also haunted by her mother’s ghost. Her mother died when Caitlin was four years old. So why is she still here and is she trying to tell her something? Was she murdered? And by whom?

Of course, most people are going to think that Caitlin is going round the twist, but there are some who believe in her. Her friend Sally and Bob the gardener (I’m glad he’s not the builder), who may be a little in love with her, are just two.

Caitlin is in a relationship of sorts with hunky Dennis, but he’s actually a real love rat and she eventually decides to give him the heave-ho. Unfortunately, he’s inveigled his way into her home and got his slippers firmly under the coffee table.

The plot is pretty complicated, so I’m not going to try and go into more detail, but suffice to say there are lots of strange things going on, such as a mysterious cousin called Arabella she’s never heard of, and some financial irregularities revolving around Caitlin’s Trust Fund, and her late father George Rose, as well as her mother’s death.

So Caitlin decides to hire a private investigator, initially to take pictures of Arabella and try to discover whether she really is a long lost cousin. The investigator – Charlie Bond – turns out to be a woman and rapidly becomes my favourite character, more so than Caitlin I’m afraid, who is rather strange and secretive at times.

It’s a really good book, great for taking on holiday – I would read it on the plane if I was travelling – it will keep you riveted for the duration of the journey.

Many thanks to @ZooloosBT for inviting me to be part of this blog tour.

When Caitlin moves into the house she inherited, she is sure the ghost of her mother who died when she was a child, is haunting her and warning her of impending danger. But how much is her imagination and how much is it her memories returning? Caitlin has the capacity to be a strong woman but she does seem to be quite insecure at times. But she is definitely bolstered up by her friendships with Sally and Bob. Having said that though, I loved how she dealt with the devious Dennis. Things then became even more interesting with the introduction of Charlie Bond, the private investigator who delves into the past. At times I could feel the tension on the pages, and there were plenty of characters to like or loathe. This book had surprises which I didn’t see coming and with the twists in the story, sometimes I did find myself doubting a couple of people.
I enjoyed Vex Her Ghost as it was a different take on a mystery and I’m looking forward to hopefully reading a sequel.

I was immediately drawn to this book by the front cover and it didn't disappoint at all.

The book was well written with a compelling story line that combined paranormal elements with mystery elements and you know how much I love both of those. The characters were well developed and I found myself really liking them especially Caitlin.

The book starts off as a slow burner but it definitely picked up in pacing as the tension in the book picked up, and gees was there tension. This book was so atmospheric and it gave me chills in parts with the hairs on my neck and arms stood up, I felt like I was being watched 😂.
The book is so atmospheric and completely drew me into the pages I felt like I was living it but I was so glad I wasn't. The twists were also great and I definitely didn't see them coming.

This is my first book by this author but it definitely wont be my last

Following her fathers death and her inheritance of the family home, Caitlin goes searching for information about her mother, who died in a tragic accident when Caitlin was just a young girl. She encounters many strange mishaps along the way! Is someone trying to stop her finding out the truth?

Great characters, both living and dead, from her best friend Sally to evil George and including a ghostly visitation.

A well written cosy mystery with several twists and turns, set in the beautiful Dorset countryside.
A most enjoyable light read, just what I needed and perfect for taking on holiday. I bought a second copy for my friend as it's just her kind of read too.
