This reliable and highly readable textbook provides comprehensive coverage of core Christian beliefs from an evangelical perspective. Developed from the author's popular introductory course on Christian doctrine, the book rests firmly on biblical foundations while also providing a balanced discussion of areas where evangelicals disagree. As with other books in SPCK's 'Exploring' series, the text will be accompanied by essay topics and suggestions for further reading at the end of each chapter.
Tony [Anthony] Lane’s Exploring Christian Doctrine is, unequivocally, the best systematic introduction to Christian thought I have read. Lane provides a balanced presentation of a range of theological views, ensuring that readers encounter a variety of perspectives with respect and clarity. Additionally, Lane draws on the creeds and confessions of the Church, grounding his discussions in the historic formulations of the Christian faith. This approach not only anchors his explanations in the broader Christian tradition but also helps readers appreciate the continuity of belief through the ages. The result is a well-rounded introduction to Christian doctrine that is both intellectually rigorous and highly accessible.
This is a very accessible introduction to Christian doctrine. The content is not comprehensive however Lane does a good job of devoting attention to the most significant issues. Lane approaches Christian doctrine from a conservative and mostly even-handed point of view. As is often the case with theologians, when addressing issues of philosophy Lane becomes somewhat muddled. The strength of this work is the light and accessible approach when dealing with difficult topics, as well as Lane’s careful attention to the textual data of scripture.
