Alexandra grew up hungry. Hungry for food, hungry for safety, hungry for love. Which is why she's worked so hard to have it a beautiful home, a gorgeous doctor boyfriend, and an ambitious job matching individuals with... unconventional emotional responses. Sure, her clients may sit somewhere on the psychopathy scale. But they're not the dangerous, murderous kind. They're doctors, lawyers, teachers, and everyone deserves love.
And that's exactly what Alex thinks she's found. Love. So she's floored when she arrives to her dinner with her boyfriend, expecting a ring in a little box, and instead finding her best friend sat at the table with him. They have news. They're together now. And apparently her birthday dinner is the best time to share the news.
Suddenly, Alex's world implodes. She has lost the two people in the world closest to her, her only support. She's utterly alone, her future in pieces. So when she unexpectedly bumps into a client, Rebecca, and Rebecca seems to want to be friends, it feels like a lifeline.
But then Alex's now ex turns up dead, then more people around her seem to be dropping like flies. And she can't help but wonder if this new friendship is a match made in hell.
This one was a good real for fall (and maybe even Valentine’s Day time)
We follow our main character after something happens in her personal life, and see how her profession is literally to match make psychopaths. She gets involved with a couple & things unfold from there!
I did expect this to be a bit more thrilling & crazy than it was. I really didn’t like our main character and found the plot a bit boring until the second half. A few twists that got me which was fun, and the writing style was super quick to read!
Matchmaking for Psychopaths is for those who have ever been called "crazy". Matchmaking for Psychopaths written by Tasha Coryell was fun, gritty, memorable, laughable, powerful, unhinged, inspirational, and real. When I saw Tasha had a new book coming out, I was literally jumping and screaming with glee. I couldn't be more thankful to have had the chance to read this book early, when I saw I had been approved my heart was bursting with joy because this was one of my many anticipated releases of 2025. After loving Love Letters to a Serial Killer last year, my jaw was on the floor when I saw this stunning cover, I just knew I had to get my hands on this book immediately. I honestly think I loved this book way more, I couldn't stop laughing out loud at the unhinged moments. Y'all need to have your popcorn popped and ready to go on July 15th, 2025 for the release of Matchmaking for Psychopaths because you definitely won't want to miss out on the fun memories this book will bring you. I honestly didn't expect to love this book as much as I did, but I was completely shocked and loved every single minute of this lovely book. If you are looking for something bingeable and laughable, then I highly recommend having this book on your to be read list. My jaw is still on the floor two weeks later. The dark humor was just top tier, but then again dark humor is my love language, so I'm always appreciative when authors have the best dark humor incorporated into their books.
THANK YOU TO NETGALLEY AND BERKLEY PUBLISHING GROUP FOR AN ARC OF THIS BOOK IN EXCHANGE FOR AN HONEST REVIEW!!!!!!!

Alexandra Smith was the most unhinged firecracker of a woman. Alexandra grew up hungry, hungry for food, hungry for safety, and hungry for love. Alexandra experienced an enormous amount of loneliness in her youth, she definitely didn't have a normal childhood, because her parents were murderers. Peter and Lydia Schwartz were named as serial lust murderers because they picked up women in bars and murdered them, Peter and Lydia lured these women with sexual acts and then proceeded to murder them. Due to these circumstances, Alexandra's childhood was like a horror show. At just eighteen years old, Alexandra moved across the country and changed her name so she wasn't associated with her parents anymore. As the years went out, Peter was murdered in prison, he was stabbed to dead, his head was cut off, and his organs were removed, meanwhile Lydia is in prison hundred of miles away. Alexandra spends her free time on the couch reading books or watching reality television. Her real strength is her ability to read people, but she doesn't know how to open up and let people in. Alexandra is a match maker for psychopaths at Better Love where she is devoted to helping others find love with her experience in psychology. Alexandra has aspirations to become a therapist because she just loves helping others. I absolutely adored Alexandra, she was inspiring and she was so ambitious, she loves her job, and she loves watching people succeed in life. Alexandra is the type of person that puts everyone else above her own well being, she puts other people before herself because that's just the kind of person she is despite having a rough and mentally draining childhood. After hearing her story, I just couldn't help but root for this woman, she was a badass.
At Better Love, Alexandra has an ambitious job matching individuals with.... well unconventional emotional responses. Alexandra's clients may sit somewhere on the psychopathy scale, but they aren't dangerous and murderous kind of psychopaths, they are everyday human beings such as doctors, teachers, and lawyers that deserve love. One day at work, Alexandra meets Rebecca. Rebecca Newsom works for a luxury car dealership, her hobbies include driving fast cars, exercising, and most notably- watching trashy reality television. Rebecca is tired of dealing with dating apps bullshit, she cares more about personality than looks, so she turns to Alexandra for help in finding her next relationship. Alexandra and Rebecca clicked instantly, they both love trashy reality television, they both have a murdered parents, and they both attend The Children of Murdered Parents group, which is a support group of people that have parents that were murdered. Originally Alexandra never attended, but one day she saw Rebecca walking in, so Alexandra walked in as well not even knowing what she was attending until she found out what the group was for. What started out as a client first, Rebecca and Alexandra bond and become best friends, which feels like a lifeline for Alexandra because she truly has had a rough life and could use people in her corner. I loved watching Rebecca and Alexandra bond, but goodness gracious the twists, turns, and secrets during their friendship was absolutely insane. The bombs there were dropped definitely left me speechless, but you will have to read this book in order to find out what happens, if you need more convincing, let me just say that I didn't expect these truths to hit the ceiling fan the way they did, I was completely shell shocked. Rebecca Newsom had me fooled, but still I loved watching their friendship blossom even though it took wild turns along the way.
On her thirtieth birthday, Alexandra was hoping for her fiancé Noah to propose to her at the restaurant they were at for her birthday dinner, but instead her best friend Molly and Noah dropped the bomb that they were in love with each other. Meanwhile, Noah completely forgot that it was Alexandra's birthday. Alexandra was expecting a box with a ring inside, but when she arrived at the restaurant, she instead found her best friend and Noah sitting at the table. When Noah and Molly dropped the bomb that they are in love with each other, Alexandra and Noah were engaged, they had the wedding date finalized, they already had a venue picked out, Alexandra had her wedding dress already picked out, and they were even house hunting. I can't believe Molly had the audacity to buy matching dresses with Alexandra for her birthday celebration, but instead Molly is in love with Alexandra's fiancé. At her birthday dinner, Molly and Noah confirmed their affair had been going on for months, but Alexandra was completely blindsided. Noah is in his last year of medical residency, so he was hardly ever home, but I guess we know why now. Molly and Alexandra became best friends at the age of twenty-four and now six years later, their friendship is ruined. Three weeks after their break-up, Noah is found dead and Alexandra starts receiving anonymous and threatening gifts, a human heart on her doorstep, a vase of flowers with a note that said "I know who your parents are" was sent to her office at Better Love, an intruder broke into her house and left a village of tiny red hearts and pink houses with a post office envelope that said "Love Letters", and a cupcake all surrounded by body parts and pink fairy lights. This whole debacle was ludicrous and uncalled for, why do people have to be so weird and creepy because they are unhappy? I was left speechless by everything that happened in this book, but as more truths are dropped, you will need to read this book. I'm honestly so flabbergasted by all of these events, someone please read this book right this minute so we can scream together.
Welcome to the new and improved method of finding your perfect match…especially if you happen to be a psychopath!
Lexie is about to achieve everything she ever hoped for. Her career as a matchmaker for psychopaths is taking off (Gee…that sounds like fun!)😂 And her boyfriend, (a doctor no less) is about to propose. She’ll be set for life. And today is her birthday! Lexie is sure that tonight’s dinner out will be the moment he proposes.
Pardon moi Lexie…but you couldn’t be more wrong!
In fact, her boyfriend and her best friend just declared their love for each other and poor Lexie is the odd man (woman) out! Wait…what⁉️
Looking for support and a friendly shoulder, Lexie befriends one of her clients, Rebecca. Lexie, you do remember your clients are ‘psychopaths’? Right? It may just dawn on her after her ex-boyfriend suddenly dies. And that's only the beginning.
This book is as fun and quirky as the cover art! I really enjoyed Tasha Coryell’s previous read, Love Letters To A Serial Killer and this latest is just as much fun! Alright Tasha I’m ready for your next!
Thank you to Berkley Publishing Group via NetGalley
OMG Y’ALL! 😱 This book was so good and so much fun! If you love a great character driven thriller with some satire thrown in, THEN PRE-ORDER THIS NOW!!! Trust me!!
Lexie works for a dating company and she has a certain skill. Matching psychopaths with their true mates. She’s so good at it because she comes from a family of psychopaths herself. In fact, mother and father were notorious serial killers.
When her all-of-the-sudden ex-fiancé disappears, she becomes worried. She fears her fiancé‘s body parts are being delivered right to her own home. But is it him? Where is he? And who has supposedly killed him?
EVERYONE is a suspect! You will change your mind throughout, trust me. The characterization is deeply rich. I loved learning about Lexie’s past. I absolutely LOVED this story so much! It’s fun, insane and one helluva ride!
Alexandra works for a small, woman-owned matchmaking company, and her area of specialty is with clients who fall somewhere along the psychopathy scale.
Her clients aren't the murdery-type of psychopaths, though, that we might all think of. At least she doesn't think so. They actually tend to be quite successful individuals, who are just as deserving as love as the next person.
But what happens when the matchmaker is barely holding her own love-life together?
Alexandra thought she had found love for herself, but boy, was she wrong. A fact she discovered on her birthday, when her boyfriend, Noah, and best friend, Molly, revealed that they were now an item, leaving Alex out in the cold.
Alex has suddenly lost the two people she was closest too in the world, but as the old adage goes, there are more fish in the sea, both in the romance sea and the friendship sea.
Alex soon has a potential love interest, as well as a potential new best friend, but instead of stabilizing things for her, circumstances continue to spiral after her ex disappears, and she fears he's been murdered on her behalf.
Much like Coryell's previous novel, Love Letters to a Serial Killer, this story succeeds in pushing boundaries, and potentially Readers outside their comfort zones.
It's a fun and edgy blend of Romance, Mystery and Horror, all rolled into one tidy little package. I enjoyed getting to know our MC, Alexandra. She certainly contains multitudes.
As the story unfolds, it's hard not to try to figure out what is actually going on, but Coryell reveals things in such a way, that I found it close to impossible to guess. Sure, I had various theories throughout, but I was never confident, because there were so many darkly-delicious possibilities.
I found the concept of Alexandra's job super interesting, and it was fun reading about various situations occurring in her workplace. Additionally, Alex has a fascinating history that definitely added its own level of intrigue to the story.
Overall, this out of the box, genre-blending, Romantic Suspense story, full of murder and mayhem, definitely kept me on my toes. I loved trying to guess what was actually going on. The characters were intriguing, and the plot, just wacky enough to deliver pure entertainment!
Thank you to the publisher, Berkley, for providing me with a copy to read and review. I'm looking forward to picking up more from Tasha Coryell!!
Tasha Coryell's 2025 novel, MATCHMAKING FOR PSYCHOPATHS, is a genre-bending mix of comedy, romance, horror, and psychological thriller—and I absolutely loved it!
Alexandra grew up craving food, safety, and love—needs she’s spent her life trying to fill with a beautiful home, a doctor boyfriend, and a job helping classified psychopaths find love. Alexandra spends her days dreaming of being married to Noah, watching trashy reality tv and envisioning her life play out as a reality show, and loving working at her job in hopes of eventually leading her own division. But when her boyfriend and best friend reveal they’re now a couple (I would have LOST it!)—on her birthday, no less—Alex’s carefully built world shatters. Then her ex turns up dead, and as bodies start piling up, she begins to suspect her new friend might be more dangerous than she seems.
This book is a one sitting read! ALERT, anti-slow burn alert! I know Coryell's debut novel, Love Letters to a Serial Killer had very mixed reviews, but if you don't find MATCHMAKING FOR PSYCHOPATHS entertaining, I don't know what to tell you. This book is perfect for fans of the Real Housewives, spoofs on romance movies or horror movies, and wants to read something unique. This book is a great for readers of Mona Awad or Eliza Jane Brazier as this deviates from the typical thriller genre you've probably read in recent years. As mentioned, I read this in one sitting because it's just so easy to follow along. I knew what was going to play out, but what sets this book apart from others is how fun and immersive you will feel with Alexandra's journey. Have fun with this book and don't take it too seriously. This book will be in my top 10 reads for 2025. Bravo, Tasha Coryell!
This "Matchmaking" book was not a good match for this fastidious reader.
Although I possess an insatiable fondness for books about psychopaths, this book missed the mark.
Yes, this book was as deeply flawed as its enigmatic female protagonist.
WHY?
1) Pass the cool compresses, please. After a strong beginning, the storyline veered into OTT territory. My eyes were rolling so frequently that they started to hurt. (I am serious!)
2) Repetitious text. I lost count of the number of times the protagonist complained about her birthday being forgotten and that her parents left her alone too much.
I listened to the audiobook, expertly narrated by Sarah Mollo Christensen.
Sarah Mollo Christensen's performance was outstanding and helped me make it to the finish line.
**Many thanks to Berkley and Tasha Coryell for an ARC of this book provided via NetGalley!**
Can you imagine if Hallmark had a section with cards that read "From one psychopath to another"...and that message actually SOLD?
Such is the foundation and thought process behind "Better Love", a matchmaking service with a very unusual specialty: they find soulmates for those that seem un-dateable because they're uh, MORE than a bit unhinged. Lexie is proud to work for this company and also excited: today is her birthday and she's ready to meet her handsome boyfriend (and hopefully soon, fiance!) Noah for a perfect evening out. But when said fiance arrives with her friend Molly, and a guilty look on his face, the night takes an UGLY turn...and you can probably guess where this is going. The sordid affair between the two people she thought she could trust most leaves Lexie broken...and it's not too surprising that she ends up looking for solace in another man's arms. The man from this one night stand, Zach, seems to get her on a deeper level from the jump...but does he REALLY get her? Or was their meeting no coincidence?
Lexie's predisposition to help people find their soul (or perhaps soulLESS 😉) mates all started when she was young. Growing up with two serial killer parents was unconventional to say the least, but she's trying to work through it in the healthiest way she knows how: therapy. And when she happens to follow her matchmaking client Rebecca into The Children of Murdered Parents group, she quickly sees a different kind of soulmate: a Galentine of her very own. 💌 The two hit it off and begin talking more and more, swapping stories and giggling over reality TV shows together...just like her FORMER friend Molly used to do with her too. But when BODY PARTS arrive at Lexie's house...and she finds out Noah is MISSING...a much grimmer picture begins to form in her mind...and Lexie wonders if her latest entanglements might have something to do with it. Or are the missing gaps of time in her mind evidence that perhaps serial killer behavior runs in the family after all? 😱
Genre mashups are always tricky, and this one is nothing if not a BIT messy. Unfamiliar with Tasha Coryell after skipping yet ANOTHER book about serial killers and their ilk (Love Letters to a Serial Killer, Coryell's first effort), I didn't know whether to expect comedy with a bit of horror, romance with a side of horror-comedy...or some other wild and woolly amalgam of the three. It's true, there ARE elements of each present in this one, but to be honest, this book's predisposition to try to be everything to everyone kind of reminded me a bit of Lexie herself in terms of people-pleasing behavior...and consequently, as the saying goes: "You can satisfy some of the people all of the time, and all of the people some of the time, but you cannot satisfy all of the people all of the time." (John Lydgate)
Meaning that while this book immediately drew me in and had a lot of fun moments, its premise relying on such a dramatic suspension of disbelief while also sort of masquerading as 'you can believe this, it's TOTALLY plausible' led to a sort of cognitive dissonance that got harder and harder to ignore. While I found Lexie relatable (and certainly likable!) from the jump, I'm not sure why we had to spend SO many pages talking about why she loved reality TV and more specifically, why she loved reality TV watching with her former friend Molly. After a while, I just felt like I was supposed to be feeling sorry for her rather than relating to her...and that sort of removed some of the inherent lightness of the story itself. This is also one of those books where GIANT red flags keep popping up that the narrator has developed some sort of color blindness toward, because while life is full of coincidences, there just aren't THAT many...ESPECIALLY in such a short span of time.
Perhaps what frustrated me most of all was figuring out parts of the plot...and finding them underwhelming at that. I WANTED to get swept away by this one so much more than I did, but because there was no TRUE love story to root for and no 'pure' friendship at its core, it was more of a struggle than I would have liked. I wanted surprise, drama, intrigue...heck, even Lexie resolving her FAMILY trauma would have been fine by me. Instead, I got little glimpses of things I liked, but nothing I could fully sink my teeth into (yes, I realize this wasn't exactly a vampire novel, but you know what I mean!) I also think this book could have VASTLY benefited from a bit of a retooling and a Valentine's Day release. At its core, I think it wanted to be more of a romance novel with an edge and having a bit of a lackluster thriller reveal, would have probably been better off leaning into this aspect rather than its complicated genre-bending permutations. I felt like I got a bunch of samples that were tasty, but what I wanted was a complete, three-course meal. 🍴
And while Better Love DID seem like a better matchmaking option than let's say, Tinder...I think in the words of Alice Deejay, this protagonist would have been Better OFF alone.
I’m so glad Gabby asked me to cohost her bookclub last month because I’m not sure I would’ve picked this up if not for her book club and I really enjoyed it!
I thought it was pretty fast paced and I really enjoyed the dark humor a lot! I was definitely entertained although I don’t think I’m sold on the ending or the love interest. Idk I felt like in some ways our main character was almost doomed to her fate from the beginning but I know a lot of people really enjoyed the ending a lot from an entertainment perspective.
I’d definitely read more from the author! I think she really made the characters feel real and it was a really entertaining read!! :)
i was originally going to rate this five stars, but the last 25% really disappointed me because things were wrapped up much too nicely. i also felt our fmc was just a push-over in every aspect of the book.
also, the love interest for our fmc was barely in the book…. what was the point?
i’m very disappointed, but i will give this book credit because i was completely invested for majority of it.
What ultimately made me want to read this book was the title and the cover. The book definitely delivered! Right from the very beginning, this book had me hooked. It starts off so messed up, but it was just the beginning of it all. This novel centers around a woman named Lexie, who does matchmaking. However, she ends up falling for someone she’s not supposed to. Her life seems to keep on falling apart, while dealing with past childhood trauma. Lexie ends up getting a disturbing, gory gift and she wants to know who sent it to her. This book is dark, yet comical. I really enjoyed the protagonist Lexie in this book. It is well written, unique and unputdownable. I had no idea who did that gruesome gift thing, so it definitely kept me guessing!! It is twisty, witty and read like a movie to me! Overall, I give this book a 4.5 out of 5 stars!
I definitely recommend this book to anyone that loves reading a dark, mysterious thriller book, with some added comical relief to it. Some of the trigger warnings include sexual content and graphic gore. These are not the complete list of triggers. This book reminded me of “Love Letters to a Serial Killer” by the same author Tasha Coryell and had the movie “Gone Girl” vibes to it.
First things first, AVOID THE PLOT DESCRIPTION of this book! It gives entirely too much away. I’m not even going to give a one-sentence plot summary in this review. It’s best to let Matchmaking for Psychopaths pleasantly – or maybe unpleasantly, depending on your tastes – surprise you.
Matchmaking for Psychopaths is pure, unhinged fun. While it is more insightful than I expected in its examination of modern love and childhood trauma, this is not a book to be taken too seriously. This is the very definition of a beach read – that is, if you like your beach reads to include a few severed body parts and the occasional psychopath. It isn’t quite horror, but it has elements of horror. It’s not a romantic comedy, but it has romance and parts of it are (darkly) funny. It’s also a psychological thriller, but not in a melodramatic, super serious way. This book is entirely its own unique genre that infuses all of these elements into one magical, compulsively readable, slightly disturbing and super entertaining thing.
Tasha Coryell’s character work is excellent. The protagonist, Lexie, is a matchmaker with a complicated past that very much has an affect on her present; everything from her relationships to her TV-watching habits are informed by the way she grew up. Because of that, she’s so psychologically interesting and her behavior makes sense for her, even when it doesn’t really “make sense.” She definitely goes on A Journey throughout the course of this book, and it was fun watching her embrace the parts of herself she tried to avoid for so long. There’s some interesting stuff here about dating culture and the long-lasting effects of a dysfunctional childhood – just enough to add some meat to the story and make it deeper and more meaningful than it would be otherwise. But mostly, this is a book that really does embrace its most deranged qualities. And I loved it for that.
Thank you to Berkley Publishing Group for the early reading opportunity.
I wasn’t sure what to expect from this book, between the title and the cover art, but I’m so glad I gave it a chance!
Lexie works as a matchmaker. Fine. But she specializes in matching psychopaths, not the “bad kind” she thinks. She’s engaged to Noah, who she thinks is perfect for her: he’s a doctor, finishing up his residency and he and his family are very, very normal - which is something she craves, having been raised by a pair of serial killers. Yep, you read that right.
But then on her birthday, Noah and her best friend Molly announce that they are in love with each other and Lexie is devastated. She winds up in a bar and meets a handsome man who seems to understand her. He becomes an important part of the story as does a new client who Lexie befriends. Lexie loves watching romcoms and reality tv shows and she and Rebecca share that interest.
When Noah disappears, Lexie has no idea what to think. But then body parts start showing up at her home.
The story comes from Lexie’s POV so we get all her thoughts and feelings as we gradually learn her backstory.
This was a wild ride and I loved it. It was quirky and fun and yes, a bit disturbing, plus it had a good mystery at its heart. I did eventually guess who was responsible but not why. This was my first book by the author and I enjoyed her writing style and will look for other books she has written.
Thank you to Berkley and NetGalley for the opportunity to read an advance readers copy of this book. All opinions are my own.
I don’t mind an unreliable narrator. I don’t mind a "pick me" protagonist. But I do mind being dragged through a plot where the main character spends 80% of the book vilifying her parents only to reveal that she ALSO killed someone and framed them for it.
Her boyfriend (who clearly didn’t even like her) forgets her birthday yet they’re engaged, by the way. And announces he’s leaving her for her best friend at her birthday dinner. Said bestie gives “surface level” energy at best.
Naturally, since it’s her birthday (which we’re reminded of 47,000 times), she goes to a bar and ends up going home with a random guy who, plot twist, just so happens to be obsessed with her serial killer parents because he once killed someone in high school and felt seen. What??
She finds a bestie replacement who also has a murdered parent. Then her dead ex’s body parts start showing up. A coworker snaps over a promotion and tries to burn her alive, only for the rando bar guy to murder everyone to save her. They then start sleeping together while he’s flying a plane. What??
And then the wedding. Scheduled for the same date as her last almost wedding. We find out her new bestie is actually her half sister and the killer… whom she murders in her wedding dress. Because of course she does.

Who doesn’t love a fun murder mystery! This was such an entertaining read, dark with romance and revenge. , how could you possibly go wrong.
Lexie was such a brilliant character. She was living her perfect life, a job as a matchmaker that she loved and engaged to be married. It was a far cry from her childhood which we learn about slowly throughout the story. But on her birthday her dreams are shattered by her fiancée and best friend who declare that they are in love. This sends Lexie spiralling and when the fun begins.
Plenty of twists, dark secrets and more make this such a page turner. I had so much fun getting to know Lexie , she made me laugh and tore at the heartstrings as well.
Out on July 17th, thank you Orion Publishing for my advanced copy to read.
You know the cliche: boyfriend cheats with best friend on his girlfriend. But it doesn’t stop here: he’s confessing everything, telling her it’s over ON HER BIRTHDAY. While she thought she would get a surprise party…
You think this is bad? Just imagine after trying to get back together with him (a bit embarrassing, to be honest) you find a human heart on your doorstep.
And chaos breaks out.
Sometimes it felt like everything came easily to other people - friendship, love, stability - but I had to claw and scratch for even a scrap of what they had. What was the point of all my efforts? It was so tempting to break the rules.
I absolutely loved the story itself. It was really entertaining. The only thing I didn’t like was the repetitive writing style. The book could’ve been a lot shorter without all these repetitions. But I had fun and I can definitely recommend this for everyone who likes romance, serial killer and murder. (What a crazy combination)
This is the first time I’ve encountered a cover that so perfectly mirrors the emotional and thematic depth of the story within. From the very first chapter, this book grabs hold and doesn’t let go. Each chapter escalates the tension in such a gripping way that I found myself questioning whether anything else on my to-do list could possibly matter more than finishing this novel.
The characters are richly developed and deeply flawed, some by design, others by choice, which adds layers of complexity that elevate this beyond your average thriller. And that ending… I’m still thinking about it and wishing I had someone to unpack it with. It’s haunting, bold, and absolutely unforgettable.
This is a standout in the thriller genre, unique, emotionally charged, and masterfully paced. I highly recommend it and can only hope there’s a sequel in the works.
I immediately enjoyed Alex, the female protagonist, even when I was wincing at her thought process or wanting to shake her for being a little thick. The concept is great, the cover is wonderfully unique, and while parts of the story are a bit predictable, there’s still a fun surprise twist. Overall, it’s an easy, enjoyable read that hit the right chord for me at the right time. 4.5 stars rounded down.
Read if you like: 🔪 1st person POV 🔪 single POV 🔪 single timeline 🔪 slow burn 🔪 true crime 🔪 The Real Housewives
I did not initially realize that this was the same author that wrote Love Letters to a Serial Killer, which I really enjoyed. This book was absolutely perfect for me, with all the true crime, The Real Housewives and even VANDERPUMP RULES!! This book includes every one of my favourite things 🤪🤪 This one was definitely a slowwww burn. It did not hook me right away and actually required some commitment before it got going, but once it did I was absolutely HOOKED and I could not get enough! There was a teeny little bit of spice 🌶️ in here, which is kinda fun for a crime book 🤪 The ending was so silly and satisfying 🤪🤪 I did not see the ending coming!! I loved it 🩷 I loved all the psychopaths in this one 🤪🤪 I love a found family trope, and this one definitely had it! Thank you so much to Berkley Publishing and Tasha Coryell for this advanced copy in exchange for an honest review 💕💕
I think I had this one built up too much in my head. It’s not that I didn’t enjoy it, but Matchmaking for Psychopaths just didn’t hit the mark the way I hoped it would.
This book tries to do a lot at once: murder/missing mystery, dramatic breakup, and a sprinkle of rom-com energy, but none of it fully lands. We’ve got Lexie, whose fiancé leaves her for her best friend (ON HER BDAY), and she throws herself into her work as a matchmaker for psychopaths. Aidan shows up, all dark and mysterious. First as a one night stand then as a client, only to basically vanish from the story until the very end. The “romance” ends up feeling more like a consolation prize than an actual plotline.
The ending also didn’t sit right with me. Lexie’s big revelation boils down to the idea that all the women in her life are toxic and she’s just doomed to never have female friends again… which felt like such an odd takeaway.
The audiobook narration, though, was the hardest part for me. Sarah Mollo Christensen’s delivery had the same exact intonation in almost every sentence. A steady rhythm with a dip down in pitch and a bit of vocal fry at the end of each line. After a while, it became almost grating to listen to. She did a decent job differentiating character voices, but her overall tone made it tough for me to stay immersed in the story. I honestly think I might have enjoyed this more if I’d read the physical book instead.
That said, I did like how unique the concept was. It’s not easy to find something that stands out among the flood of new releases every year, and this one definitely had a fresh premise. I also only half-guessed the twist at the end. So points for that!
Overall, it’s a fairly easy read, and I’d recommend it to anyone who’s never read anything dark before but wants to dip a single, hesitant toe into that pool. It’s not dark, but it flirts with the idea of being a little dangerous. Just enough to keep things interesting.

🍿 𝘍𝘪𝘳𝘴𝘵 𝘐𝘮𝘱𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘴𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘴: I saw a lot of hype surrounding Matchmaking for Psychopaths by Tasha Coryell, and for me, it totally lived up to ALL that hype! I was initially drawn in by the title and cover but was thrilled when it delivered on a fantastic reading experience as well. I thought her debut Love Letters to a Serial Killer was great, but this one made Coryell an auto buy author for me for sure.
🤩 𝚃͏𝚑͏𝚎͏ 𝙱͏𝚎͏𝚜͏𝚝͏ 𝙱͏𝚒͏𝚝͏𝚜͏: I was an immediate fan of Alexandra (AKA Alex), and once you find out she is a matchmaker for ‘psychopaths’ all hell breaks loose. From being betrayed by her best friend and boyfriend to body parts being delivered to her door, this was totally wild from start to finish. There are plenty of twists, especially at the end, and my jaw was on the FLOOR! I also adored the characterization in the book and the way every character felt so different and unique.
🎧 𝒜𝓊𝒹𝒾𝑜𝒷𝑜𝑜𝓀 𝒩𝒶𝓇𝓇𝒶𝓉𝒾𝑜𝓃: Sarah Mollo Christensen is a stellar narrator, and she captured this story and its characters with ease. I loved listening to her, and she made the audiobook not only an enjoyable experience but an addictive one as well.
💭 𝘊𝘭𝘰𝘴𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘛𝘩𝘰𝘶𝘨𝘩𝘵𝘴: My advice is to go into this book as blindly as possible and let it take you along for the crazy ride it is. That’s what I did, and it blew me away. Coryell’s writing is so engaging, and she has managed to come up with 2 storylines that are completely unlike anything I’ve read before. I can’t wait to see what she does for her next book!
This book was batshit crazy in the best of ways. This is not you’re average dating service. Matchmaking for psychopaths is just what it sounds like. It might have been a bit excessive with the amount of psychopaths in this woman’s orbit, but the book was very enjoyable!
This book was so much fun, I had no choice but to give it five stars! I devoured it in a few days and it was a banger. Fans of reality tv, rom-coms, and true crime will enjoy this fast-paced, sassy, and, chaotic story. I was thoroughly entertained and am looking forward to reading more books by Tasha Coryell👏🏻
thank you to Berkley Publishing Group for allowing me access to this ARC
I really enjoyed Love Letters To A Serial Killer last year from Coryell last year so I was excited to get my hands on this one. I expected it to be just as wild and unhinged and I was not disappointed. I will say this FMC had a better sense of self preservation (though that's not saying much, if you read the other book you know the bar was low low). We open with a scene right before a wedding and Lexie receiving a very interesting package. The story goes backward in time from there, showing us how it all led up to that point.
Lexie's boyfriend and her best friend have committed the ultimate sin against her - they tell her they've been having an affair and that they're in love. On Lexie's birthday, no less. While she copes with this information she tells us about her profession as a matchmaker and meets a beautiful woman named Rebecca whom she wants to befriend ... and a strange handsome man. Coryell's writing seems to suit me very well because when I'm reading her books I'm never bored. Her plots are kind of random and different so I never know what direction the story will take next. Aside from that Lexie also has a dark past that she reveals information about over time.
My favorite thing about this book (and the previous one) is hard to explain, but Coryell's characters have this rawness to their thoughts that seems very relatable to me at times. Like they'll think something and I'll be like "I've thought that before" ... they just seem very human, if that makes sense. And if you add that to the unpredictable factor it makes for a really good time. I did predict the twist at the end if I am being honest, but it didn't detract from my enjoyment. There were enough surprises along the way. I am excited to see what this author does next.
This was such a wild ride! The story alternates between present-day chapters and flashbacks to Lexie’s childhood, and both timelines are equally engaging — I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough. The book blends elements of horror, romance, mystery, and thriller, and the author does a fantastic job balancing them all. Matchmaking for Psychopaths is quirky, fun, and refreshingly unique. I found myself rooting for the psychopath/killer romance by the end.😭😭
I’ll definitely be picking up more from this author. And can we talk about that cover art? 😂
