A good story about two brothers - half brothers really. Short but interesting, it a tale set in the southwest about a family broken up by the greed of a dishonest woman. Evenly paced it speaks to the importance of family, friendship and finding where you belong. There are native Americans, ranchers, mountain men and others trying to figure out life in the harsh American west in the 1800s. I enjoyed it.
This is a fascinating tapestry: primarily a coming-of-age story woven with adventure and history, while developing several relationships between families, friends and even a hint of budding romance. The author has included many references to Navajo culture and a broad knowledge of the natural world of the American West. This book is interesting on many levels, fun to read, with good character development and convincing dialogue. I'm looking forward to a sequel!
