Volume 2 is the training arc/competition arc, and all about mangaka rookies starting from zero and leveling up, not just as creators, but as people. The main character is a social, extroverted ball of determination who somehow inspires everyone, even his lowest, most bitter rivals. And instead of tearing them down? He hypes them up, makes them better rivals so he can surpass his limits, it's surprisingly wholesome.
The rivalries are intense, the trials are gripping and designed to make you into the new guard of new serialized series mangakas, and every character has that powerful beast-mode aura, complete with gorgeous background art and emotional attacks. We got tigers, dragons, owls... wonder what's in the next volume.
It also shows the harsh truth of being a mangaka: burnout, deadlines, injuries, and losing joy when your passion becomes your job. But through all of it, the message is clear: keep going. Use every last second. Grow, even when it hurts.
The end twist? The final boss judge is the rival of Miyama (who swapped places with the MC) to grade their submissions. Biased, of course. The MC loses and was blacklisted from the magazine, but it’s not the end. It’s a setup for a better future, where he can shine on his own stage, on a more suitable soil.
Lots of themes about lifting others up to uplift yourself, and not backing down even when the going gets tough.

Hanagami as Miyama attends a retreat for budding manga artists, and he embraces his new lot in life. That doesn't mean Miyama as Hanagami is out of the picture though, nor does it mean that "Hanagami" is going to make life easy for "Miyama." There is a bit of fan-service in this series, which detracts and could pull readers out of the moment. Otherwise, the attention to the manga industry and the absolute wild ride these two are on is fascinating and captivating.
