Broken like me : A Dark College Romance

Rate this book
Nicki Rollins
It started when I was four, and it only progressed from there.
Parents are supposed to be protectors of their children, but mine were my worst nightmare
I have been in therapy for years, and my therapist tells me every time that I am safe
I don’t think she understands what that word means
But today is the day I get my freedom and I get to leave my parents and go to college.
I got a full ride to Silent University which is in a small town on the coast of Oregon called Whispering Trees.
This new place I am hoping will be a new start for me, but when people see me all they see are the scars that cover most of my body.
My entire life I have felt broken and out of place
Until I met them
The Silent Knights.
They are known as the bad boy gang on campus but to me, they are my salvation
When they look at me it is not with disgust but with longing and passion
I shouldn’t want them, but I do
I have after all always wanted what I shouldn’t

What would you be willing to do to put back together your broken pieces?

not really sure about this one and not how you think

This was probably one of the hardest books to read and not because of the violent content and viciousness of the story but because of how it was written. The darkness was of it all never turned me off but the writing style this author chose did. The story never ran in any order and was quite confusing at times. I had to scroll back multiple times to figure out wtf was going on. It kept jumping from the past ~ starting at age 14 ~ to the present so many times I got lost. I almost gave up many times and did in fact stop reading and had to switch to something else when it got too frustrating. And then towards the end it jumped by years. Go figure. It mostly went day to day ~ in the “present” chapters anyway but then whoosh ~ it was a year later. And then a year later and so on. The writing style was so hard to follow it was amazing I finished it at all. And that’s sad really because I did like the storyline for the most part. I kept debating between 2 and 3 stars and ended up choosing 2 because of the fact it was very difficult to keep engaged in the story when the reader had to keep scrolling back so often to figure out. Frustrating a reader is not a way to get them to buy more books and unfortunately, even though I liked the idea of this story and not the delivery I will not download anymore books from this author. Way too many flashbacks that didn’t even make sense. The concept was great. The flow of the story was not. Not recommending this one at all.

What did I just read?

This has to be the darkest "romance" I have ever read. I put romance in quotations because there really isn't any romance. There is a messed up and deranged relationship between the main characters. The story itself was written in almost a stream of consciousness. The TWs are real with this one. Rape, child abuse, murder, codependency, drug abuse. It has it all. I did read the whole thing, so it did keep my attention, but only because I wanted to see how f upped it really got.

124 pages in and there is waaaaay too much internal dialog for me. Show me, don't tell me, particularly when it is ridiculously repetitive. Each MMC POV is pretty much an exact replica of the previous. None of them are saying anything new and I keep wondering when we are going to get to something other than listening to them rattle around in their heads for 100+ pages. Putting it down, maybe I'll come back to it - maybe not.

Great dark romance

Loved this story. Very dark so definitely check your triggers. I love seeing someone who has been abused take their power back. So good!
