From the first page I knew I was going to love it, and I DID!!!
A young courageous healer who is ready to do everything in her power to save her friends. Thea is probably my favourite character of this book. She always wants the best for the persons she cares about even if she lost a bit of herself in the process.
And a Princess who discover little by little what or who she wants. Fyreen isn’t scared to stand up for herself even if it’s in front of her mother, the Queen. And she will do all she can to heal her brother, and for that she’ll needs Thea.
I loved that it’s a slow burn, we have the time to really know our characters, their qualities and their flaws. And we have a lot of Twists and I love it!!!
I kinda like Rogan even with his enigmous answers, he still a character very interesting and have a little soft spot for Thea. Talking about Rogan and Thea, the tension is just incredible.
I know when I get attached to a character in the beginning of the book, I need to step back a little bit to prevent me from heartbreak. But I didn’t listen and I cried so much at the end.

If you want to read a Fantasy with a diverse cast, tensions, forbidden magic and queer represententions this book is for you!
I can’t wait to read Deadliest of Bond to know what’s going on.

I want to thanks Blanche Maze for this ARC in exchange for an honest review

Where to begin…
This is a very good book and a solid fantasy novel ! Fae are nothing new but the mythology as well as the way magic is distributed and works brings a fresh element into this. The world is very well built and I thoroughly enjoyed it !
Now let me address the characters. I really like most of them and find that they are interesting to get to know. The most intriguing to me are the Queen and Rogan. As I am a very character driven reader that last plot twist concerning Rogan is exactly what i needed. The only character I find lacking just a little bit was Fyreen. I loved her during her first few chapters but felt she was quite boring after all… I kept wanting more for her. As for Thea, I like her lots and I expect some great character development in book 2 !

Overall I recommend this to fantasy lovers and I can’t wait to know what happens next !

I also want to thank Blanche for this ARC and for showing me that its possible to write fantasy in english as a frenchie <3

This book is EVERYTHING I'm looking for : original and refreshing, featuring a diverse cast, full of suspense and tension. The ending blew my mind and I couldn't put it down!

The writing is perfectly balanced, beautiful and simple, and very immersive. The characters are so well crafted that even weeks after reading the book, they are still sharp and strong in my mind. Their evolution felt really true and relatable.

The plot is exactly what I like : not too revealing, not too complex, but has you looking for clues. Pacing is excellent, with the right amount of action and down times.

To be honest, I've read so many fantasy books that felt like carbon copies of each other, I'm gonna say it : Darkest of Thrones is THE book we needed in fantasy!

I got this book in one of the Stuff your Kindle day and not knowing the author, I didn't put much hope in it when I started readin it.
Wrong.
This book is amazing and I am really shocked that it doesn't have the amount of hype that it actually deserve.
The plot, the charcters developments and the intricate details.
I just finshed it and already bought the second one, it is so good!!
If we care to find a single flaw is that the main characters, Thea and Feyreen, sometimes seem to overthink too much. I get that the purpose of repeating some passages is to keep the reader on the spot so i got accustomed to it pretty fast.
The overall book has nothing to less than an ACOTAR and the writer has so much potential that I hope to read more of her works.🧡

this is difficult to write because i wanted to enjoy this book so much! but there were just so many things that i could not get behind.

firstly, the writing style was not for me. it was definitely a more 'telling' narrative than 'showing' or 'describing' -- which is okay! -- but i don't really enjoy it. i felt like there were inconsistencies and mistakes in the plot, but whatever. and let's forget the punctuation and grammar mistakes for now, because pointing them out won't help anybody. i want to talk about the obviously abusive relationship in this book that is not once touched upon as toxic and unacceptable: thea and rogan's 'romance.'

i felt that they were very unlikeable characters who acted appallingly towards each other, usually with violence. this includes holding knives and swords to each others' throats and dragging the other about violently. at one point, thea cuts rogan's throat (although not enough to kill him, obviously). thea is definitely the one to start the fight most of the time, immaturely choosing violence each time she is threatened or even asked to do something, but it is obvious that rogan has the upper-hand in any given situation in this book. here are some of the many examples:

'stop trying to hit me in public, thea.'
'rogan grabbed her by the arm to drag her...he held on, way tighter than he usually did. was he angry at her?'
'if he wanted to, he could kill her right here, right now.'

there are so many more. rogan even brands her without her consent! and [spoilers!] that's not even mentioning the fact that rogan is literally the inferling, an evil god-like creature capable of mass destruction. it's obvious that rogan is the enemy throughout the book, and i was not surprised at the end.

this might seem harsh, and i am genuinely very sorry for writing such a negative review, especially for an independent author. but i don't think it's okay to write stories with abusive characters like these and spin it as an acceptable 'enemies to lovers.'

i want to end this review by mentioning the things i liked or loved. fyreen was a beautiful character, and i loved her coming into her own at the end. eden and leethan's relationship was also sweet and i wish it had ended differently.

[i received a free arc in return for an honest review. thank you, blanche.]

I'd like to thank the author for giving me an ARC of this book to review.

4.5 stars

Though a little slow to start, this was a gripping adventure and a great introduction to a new series. It had a lot of mystery, lots of plot twists and a unique magic system, and the LGBT rep was nice to see. The ending was a total mind f****.

Personally, I didn't like Thea too much. At points she was unnessecarily rude to people who seemingly did nothing to warrant it. She had her good parts though and I did laugh at her sassiness, she was exceptionally clever and strong willed. On the otherhand Fyreen was awesome, I liked her and felt bad for her situation, kind of want to see more of her shine through. I did not expect that about Rogan.

However, there was some predictability. I figured out what was going on with a certain character very early on. And I wasn't surprised when it was revealed to be the truth.

That being said, the twist at the end made up for it so I can't complain too much, it was action packed and I found myself needing to know more at various points. I can't wait to see where the series goes and I recommend it!

Very slight spoilers, please beware.

Rating 4.5 🌟
Plot twist: 5 🌟
Spiciness: 0.5 🌶

There was something about this book that made it so, so magical!!! I can't quite put my finger on it, but that's a book well done 👏

I liked that the main focus was on the FMC and that she had unique abilities, FMC & Rogan are so, so cute!!!!

I loved that the book came with a map, it is always helpful with fantasy books and this map did not disappoint! 🔥

The way the author has told the story is so beautiful (and magical) and I cant help but wish I was part of that fantasy world 😩💜

The book was really, REALLY, slow burn and I was just aching for more and I think thats what knocked off half a star in my rating.

Also that ending.. whatttttttt????!!!!!!!!!!!!! I don't even want to start on that as I would prefer have to write another 10 pages explaining how I felt about it lol. Once again, amazing work 👏

I would highly recommend this book to all my fantasy loving babes! 💕

I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review!

Honestly I’m so impressed with Blanche and her new novel that’s coming out on June 24th. This book was so good and so different from other Fae fantasy that I’ve read and I really enjoyed it. The plot was intriguing, the twists and turns kept me on my toes, and that tension between Thea and Rogan? 👀🥵 I never knew what to expect and the last couple chapters had me SCREAMING because Blanche, wtf was that ending!!!! Blanche creates a world that’s entirely its own and original and it was refreshing to read. Her mythology is fascinating and I’m really intrigued to see how it’s going to play out in the next book.

So so so good and I’m already excited and hungry for the next one.

I really hope we will see more of Rogan in the next book 🥰 the first blonde I really fell in love with in a fantasy book. I loved the banter between Thea and Rogan and Fyreen is a big sweetheart.

I had the biggest crush on Rogan. The scenes between him and Thea were absolutely perfect and I think this is one of the main reason I loved this book so much. I also loved how the world was built with some very original touches (not saying more to stay spoiler free). The end was so intense in reveals and in pace that I could not stop reading.
I highly recommend to all fans of fantasy books !

Blanche Maze’s Darkest of Thrones is a captivating entry into the world of The Blight, weaving magic, danger, and slow-burn romance into an unforgettable tale. Thea, a resilient healer with a tragic past, is thrust into a royal mission where secrets abound, and every choice feels life-altering.

The richly imagined world is haunting and atmospheric, pulling you into its shadowed corners. Thea’s journey is not just about survival—it’s about discovering strength and purpose, even when the odds are stacked against her. And the simmering tension with Rogan? It’s pure perfection, leaving you desperate for more.

This book is a beautifully written, emotional rollercoaster that will stay with you long after the last page. An absolute must-read for fantasy lovers!

(Took me too long to finish this because I moved, went through a break-up, visited family.)

Okay, so Darkest of Thrones was free on Amazon, and the cover? Absolute 🔥. Obviously, I had to download it. What I didn’t expect was for it to slap this hard. This book is everything I’ve been looking for in fantasy: fresh, diverse, packed with suspense, and that ending?? Blew. My. Mind. I legit couldn’t put it down. And the best part? Book 2 is already out, so no agonizing wait. Just straight-up binge material.

First off, the writing? Chef’s kiss. It’s simple but beautiful, super immersive, and never tries too hard. You know how some books over-explain every little thing? Yeah, not this one. The balance is perfect, and the pacing keeps you hooked without feeling overwhelming. There's just the right mix of action, mystery, and those moments where you can actually breathe and take in the world.

And let’s talk about that worldbuilding—because WOW. Fae stories are nothing new, but this one? It actually feels fresh. The magic system, the mythology, the way power works—it’s different in a way that makes you stop and go, oh, that’s actually cool. It’s not just another fae book copy-pasted from the rest. You can tell the author put thought into making it feel real and immersive.

Now onto the characters. The Queen and Rogan? Absolute standouts. I need more of them ASAP. That last plot twist with Rogan?? Screaming. I’m a character-driven reader, so the way these two were written had me obsessed. On the flip side, Fyreen started out strong but kinda fizzled out for me. I wanted more from her. As for Thea, I really liked her, and after finishing book two, I can say she gets the development I was hoping for. No spoilers, but let’s just say... worth it.

Also, can we just take a moment to appreciate how this book is NOT like every other fantasy book? Because I’ve read so many that feel like the same story with a different title. But Darkest of Thrones? It’s giving original. It’s giving the fresh take on fantasy we needed. And now that I’ve read both books? Yeah, I can confirm this series is only getting better.

Final verdict? Binge both books NOW. If you like fantasy that keeps you guessing, characters that feel real, and worldbuilding that doesn’t just feel like background noise, then trust me—you’re gonna love this. Now excuse me while I go stalk the author’s socials to find out if book three is happening. 👀🔥

This was a pretty standard fantasy book.

It had intrigue, romance, lots of trekking through the woods. Nothing particularly stood out to me until the last 10% of the book. I read the first half and then quickly skimmed through the second half to see if it would improve. It was alright. Nothing to really catch me.

I did enjoy that basically all of the characters were Queer, that was fun. So if you're looking for a standard fantasy book, definitely read this one.

Oh and there was a "f*ck it" kiss moment which I do always love!

Thank you to the author for providing me a copy of this book. My thoughts are entirely my own.
