Throughout this book Mary DeMuth goes through lots of different ways in which we can be living as if caged, rather than allowing Christ to set us free. I should as a trigger warning here, because Mary has experienced much pain in her life, not lease because of sexual abuse and rape that she has experienced as a child. Despite this, thoughout the book you can see the joy that has come into her life thanks to her faith.

As this book is a collection of blog posts, rather than written as a book, some of the topics are repeated, but don't let this put you off. Each post is clearly laid out, and Mary puts her heart and soul on the page, as she prays for herself and for the reader that they get healing from whatever ails them.

Almost Unbelievable

While this book took me a while to read (mostly because I needed to set it down a couple times), it was something I wasn't expecting. It was like going to the movies and getting a bunch of different plots. Most of the time that annoys me but as I continued reading I could tell this was exactly what I needed! The different plots were mini breaks for me to take it all in. What a profound away to minister to someone. Thank you Mary 😀

This is a collection of blog posts so not organized like a book or her other devotions. It made transitions feel a little bit awkward at times but the content is excellent! She has a great way of taking everyday moments, especially difficult moments, and turning them into opportunities to see how God is working in her life. I always find a ton of great nuggets that I can apply to my own life.

Living Uncaged

Courageous confessions by Mary DeMuth after suffering sexual abuse as a young child. As she applies various truths from God's word she gradually morphs into a healing soul. She encourages & prays for the reader to develop worth, confidence & healing from the past. Beautiful read.

I read Live Uncaged while on a drive from PA to MI with my husband. I absolutely loved the way Mary laid everything out. I did a lot of highlighting, thinking and praying. This is a book I will return to. I really felt like I was reading an encouraging letter from a friend.

Convicting AND encouraging!

Whatever is making you feel entrapped and unable to live the life God has called you to live, you’ll find hope and encouragement that it IS possible to fly free, but only through the power of Christ.

Great book

A very refreshing book that's honest, vulnerable, but full of hope. This isn't Christian fluff. This is filled with the hope of Christ for those of us who know what it's like to be broken.

Mary DeMuth writes well, but be warned that Live Uncaged is a collection of blog posts. The author states her purpose in the introduction: “I want you to be free from the shackles of the past.” While this is a worthy aim, it just didn’t seem like the selections furthered that theme. Each of the blog posts are finely written and convey their intended message. However, I found the collection, gathered into three sections (dealing with past, present, and future), seemed to lack cohesiveness to bind it all together.

I give Mary DeMuth’s Live Uncaged three cups of love.

This book was set in blog style, which is unusual for a book. It felt like every entry was simply copy and pasted in without much editing to buff the rough edges. There were often jarring transitions from one “scene” or “entry” to the next.

I’m not sure if this was supposed to be a self-help book, but it felt much more like a memoir. It also seemed to lose focus on the theme from time to time.

I appreciated the transparency with which the author wrote this book. There was honesty and heart in every anecdote. The book held hope and encouragement and great heart for those who have been abused.

Uncaged

I thought this was just going to be another "let me tell you" kind of book. Knowing that Mary survived abuse is great but knowing she didn't do it perfectly is fantastic. I don't want to read about someone who hasn't gone through trials & is still going through them. I want honesty. Mary did that. Thank you, Mary, for being honest.
