In the quiet community of Oakhurst, the brutal murder of a beloved local priest sends shockwaves through the town. Detective Ivy Bishop, coming off two of the toughest cases of her career, is thrust into an investigation that seems straightforward but quickly unravels into something far more sinister.

As Ivy delves into the priest’s life, she uncovers hidden connections to an underground crime network operating right under the town’s nose. The deeper she digs, the more she realizes that the priest’s death is just the tip of the iceberg. The investigation twists and turns, revealing secrets that Oakhurst's elite would kill to keep buried.

Each clue leads Ivy closer to the heart of something far darker than the shadows of an empty church, exposing a web of corruption, betrayal, and greed that extends to the highest echelons of society. As she navigates this treacherous terrain, Ivy finds herself confronting the darkest aspects of humanity.

With stakes higher than ever, Ivy must untangle the intricate conspiracy before it claims more lives, including her own.

The Buried Faces is a gripping mystery thriller from Alex Sigmore, where every revelation peels back another layer of a town’s façade, and the quest for justice becomes a perilous journey into the unknown. Prepare for a tale where trust is a luxury, and the truth is more elusive than ever.

Betrayal and danger at every turn

The mystery of Ivy’s past just keeps getting deeper and darker!

Her case this time, a gruesomely murdered Catholic priest, leads Ivy and Jonathan beyond their sleepy coastal town and into a twisted web of deceit. Meanwhile Oliver is trouble, his illicit activities endangering his life. And reporter Alice finds more details about the night Ivy was found 15 years ago and about Nat’s bizarre behavior in the aftermath. Somehow, amidst all the personal drama, Ivy & Jonathan must track down their killer.

I love watching Ivy’s personal growth. Her inability to endure physical touch had left her so disconnected! By this third installment she’s starting to overcome her phobia, by small degrees, and what it brings to her personal life is delightful. We get to see Ivy building her ‘tribe.’ Her relationship with Aunt Carol flourishes. We see her really communicating, possibly for the first time, with Carol in a tentative mother-daughter dynamic and it’s so sweet! Ivy & Oliver’s relationship gets put under stress, but where Ivy might have broken and ran previously, we see her sticking it out and standing beside her friend when he needs her the most. Not to mention the trust that continues to build between Ivy & Jonathan as Ivy learns about his past and his family. Evidence of her growth is everywhere. She’s still impulsive, still the Ivy we fell in love with… but she’s growing. And I’m here for the journey!

Good whodunit, but lacking otherwise

I read the 1st book in this series about 18 monyhs ago and didn't love it. I do like the other series the author writes. I had forgotten which series I had read, so I downloaded the most recent release thinking I had read all the series up to that point. I really want to know what happens in that book, but needed the backstory. I reread the 1st book, which didn't seem the least bit familiar until 2/3 of the way through.

Ivy isn't very likeable IMO. She is a bit entitled and arrogant for her experience level. She lashes out in ways that are counterproductive to advancing her career or the issue she's trying to solve.

I did like the crime part of this story. Overall, I'd recommend not starting thos series, but if you have liked it up until this point, you'll probably like this book.

This series gets better with each book! The storyline is multi-dimensional, which keeps the read intriguing and exciting. Love the dynamic between Ivy and Jonathan. They work beautifully as partners, and he has helped her as she struggles to overcome her personal issues. My only regret is I now have to wait until May for the release of the next book!

Alex Sigmore has become one of my fave authors!

Why? Why did it have to end this way. So much has been left unsaid and as one of my favorite authors I will be left with so many questions. I was so caught up in the action th,at I didn't see it coming.

The Buried Faces

Everything about this book is exceptional. Once I started, I never wanted to put it down. When the end came I was so upset that it had ended. I can not wait for the next book in this series.

SUSPENSEFUL!

Excellent read. I’m getting a little antsy waiting for Ivy to find out what happened to her family.

Alex Sigmore is a creative, imaginative storyteller. I read all his books and I’m never disappointed. Waiting on book #4.

The Buried Faces

Love this author, an intriguing storyteller. Ivy is on the hunt, for a priest's murderer and what happened to her family 15 years ago. Nat is the key to her family's disappearance and she has disappeared.

Confrontation

Ivy and Jonathan have a new case, a priest was killed in his own church in a gruesome way. Meanwhile Nat and Ivy seemed to be getting along better. Ivy needed to know what happened to her family so she confronted Nat and all HELL broke loose.

Keeps getting better

Just when you think it won't get any better, the storyline keeps improving and the author keeps you hooked even though you're only inching closer to the truth of what happened 15 years ago. I can't believe how fast I'm devouring these books!

I really loved the story, which is sometimes fun, sometimes heavy, with a lot of twists and turns. And the suspense is quite unbearable…and we have to wait until may, my goodness it’s too long!!

When a Catholic priest is found disemboweled in his church, Detectives Ivy Bishop and Jonathan White take the case and start digging. At first it didn’t make sense that something so heinous would happen to such a beloved member of the community, but nothing is ever as it seems. As engrossing as this case is, what’s even more exciting is what unravels in Ivy’s own personal mystery of what happened to her parents and brother so many years ago. She finally gets some clues into who might actually be involved and it’s shocking.

What a cliffhanger! I can’t wait for the next one. While the books in this series can be read as standalones, I think the exciting progression of Ivy’s story warrants reading them in order for maximum impact. And the whole series is free with #KindleUnlimited.

Received as an ARC, this is an honest review. The latest case that Detectives Ivy Bishop and Jonathan White find themselves involved is the harrowing death of a local Catholic priest Father Mathew Rouge. At first, nothing really makes sense of why this beloved individual would be murdered in the way he was; and the suspects that could behind it provides Ivy or Jonathan with no clear path forward until an out of the blue clue takes their case deep into the world of privilege and their personal vices. As they chase down a murderer, Ivy's personal case of her vanished family that's haunted her life for fifteen years is finally cracking open as new clues force Ivy to take on the one person she always thought she could trust... and put everything she is on the line to solve a mystery that just makes no damn sense and take on the dangers that are unfolding around Ivy because of it.

Highly recommended.
