The Pause Effect: Now You Can Lead and Belong

Rate this book
The Pause Effect explores the impact of capturing moments often left unnoticed to intentionally pause to align to our brand and values while establishing our own belonging to serve others. Megan Broker’s debut book equips us to learn in real-time by sharing her leadership journey through the lens of one of life’s most charged and complicated blending families. Blended families are like highly matrixed organizations lacking clear roles and reporting structures with competing cultures.

The Pause Effect delves deep into the unexplored dimension of the personal journey of establishing a profound sense of belonging and aligning one’s values to create a powerful brand. Drawing on years of experience, research, real-world examples, and personal anecdotes, Megan presents a perspective that challenges conventional leadership paradigms.

In today’s dynamic and diverse world, the traditional notions of leadership have evolved. No longer is leadership merely about authority and influence. It’s about fostering genuine connections, harnessing individual strengths, and driving collective growth. The Pause Effect advocates for present and future leaders to begin their journey from within; to unearth their own sense of belonging, clarify their values, and align their actions with their unique leadership brand. Through a series of easily actionable practices, this book will be one to pick up again and again to continue to revisit and refine your intentional presence. Leaders of all levels and capabilities are then able to lead themselves and others, finding both their sense of connection and driving it for, instead of at the expense of, others.

fantastic book - must read

Too many times leadership books don’t take into account the whole self. People, let alone women, don’t start working at 9 am and magically stop being all the things we are at 8:59.

This book provides a way to see pause (pun intended) to reflect how you want/need to move forward.

No kitch or annoying woo stuff either.

Megan Broker does a great job of weaving in the challenges of blending families into the challenges of leading a company. Lots of new and useful ideas I haven't seen in other leadership books. A thought provoking and very helpful book for leaders navigating our complicated new world. A great read! Highly recommended!

This book is not like most leadership books. It's not trying to get you to eek out more productivity in your day. Instead, it advocates for pause and reflection time. The book has wonderful prompts and sections to write down your thoughts. The author will guide you through how to look for connection points with your team, take moments to pause, and dive fully into the complexities of human relationships. It's an solid, approachable read. I recommend checking it out!

“The Pause Effect” has so many nuggets of wisdom on how to be a mindful leader in your work AND home. I appreciate Megan’s vulnerability in sharing those hard moments about being in a stepmom in a blended family. It’s complicated! But it is supportive reminder that I have the skills and ability to be a leader in any environment, I just need to pause and show up!
