Alexander begins his third year in college, having made a vow to his papa that he will make friends this year and not spend every waking hour in the lab. Forced to play softball with his dormitory, he meets a little english major named Carl and breaks his finger with a well aimed fly ball. Alex, awash in guilt, helps him eat and study while his hand heals. Against mere rational thought, Alexander grows fond of Carl. Now, Alexander is not all he seems; his legs end in hands that he folds up and forces into orthopedic boots. Alex has learned to apply a glamor to those nearby to roughen his features and hide his feet, much like the fae of old.
Carl, the english major has a father who is an arms merchant, prone to selling exotic weapons to criminal organizations around the world. Soon, he draws his son and new friend into his dangerous world, but the otherworldly origins of both boys play havoc with the plots and schemes of the arms merchant. Meanwhile the budding romance between these two social misfits is actually all that matters. And revenge? Well one (say a disgruntled Aunt) can easily get Hoisted on One’s Own Petard - if one is not careful.
