When it comes to author Willow Rose you're either a lover or a loather - I'm definitely in the lover category. Yes her stories are a little convoluted and her protagonists behavior more than a bit unbelievable, but I view them as cosy mysteries with body and therefore enjoyable entertainment. This novella was easy to read with the alternating viewpoints of the younger children and the now adults, as well as the ongoing storyline featuring the evil doctor/counsellor. A very current plot involving The Slenderman and children/teens being groomed for violence via the internet makes for an exciting, relevant investigation, with the stalking of Emma adding a layer of anxiety to the action.
A word of warning though - do NOT be eating meat whilst reading about Lisa's quest to be mayor! I can guarantee you'll turn vegan very quickly.
Recommended reading for lovers of Emma Frost.

I'm surprised this got such high ratings on Amazon and Goodreads. I thought it was pretty bad.
The storyline is predictable, but also weird and slightly ridiculous. And the writing is really bad. The technique as well as the language. To be fair, I don't think English is necessarily her first language, but she could seriously use an editor. It was all clunky and wordy and just didn't flow well.
Anyway, I finished it. And I won't be reading this author again. Bechdel Test: Pass.

Harassment…oh, it is so much more than that…and I wonder if Brutus will go all Cujo on her as the past comes back to haunt her with characters that are so far out there, entitled, mean, cruel, deadly, and the mystery of Slenderman seems to come out of the computer and walk in real life…

I picked up this novel as part of a BookBub deal, and always try to leave a review if the novel was free as a way of giving something back to the author.
Overall, I found Slenderman a bit of a mixed bag. There were a few scenes I enjoyed (I found Ulrik's story to be a highlight of the novel) and a few good moments as the tension built around the murders and the looming threat towards Emma.
However, there were a few things I disliked and feel I need to be critical about such as the rushed, unsatisfactory ending, a child becoming autistic because of being hit by a car, an autistic child becoming an expert at hacking instantly despite never using a computer before, an unclear and confusing motivation for Lisa and the numerologist, a cut and paste job from Wikipedia about Slenderman (hyperlinks were still active in the paragraph), flat/clueless secondary characters, and a Facebook page going 'viral' at just 2,000 likes.
Overall, I found it rather average with some enjoyable moments. I don't mean it as an attack in any way on the novel, rather a critical review of some issues I found and disliked as a new reader coming into the series. I might check out other novels in the series at some point.

another good one
The series just continues to get better with each book. In this book, not only does Emma continue to struggle with getting her family put back together, but there is a new mayor, who definitely has more secrets in her closet. You need to read the complete series, to know what is in the hidden past of the mayor. also, Victor, Emma‘s son, reveals another hidden talent that he possesses.

I felt somewhat like I was forced to get this book to finally find out what was going to happen to Dr. Sonnichsen. Well, I sort of feel like I got two for the price of one, because there was another plot running, involving different murderers. Maya and Victor got dogs in this one, and I loved the connection between Victor and his Brutus. Unfortunately, Maya's Kenneth didn't fare so well in their home.
This installment to the series was less disturbing than some of the others with the language cleaned up some, also. So I will go ahead and download the 10th in the series.

Lisa Rasmussen would like to become the next Mayor.
Camilla (wife) & Poul (Camilla’s husband) were going to show Emma Frost, Victor, & Maya (memory loss), some dogs.
Kenneth (dog) & Brutus (dog) went home with them.
William Korsvig had a friend called Slender Man.
Morten Michael (Maya’s father), Jack (firefighter), Allan, Officer Allan, all arrived at the fire about the same time,
Mayor Erling Bang had gone up in flames.
Mrs. Bang’s was setting close by.
What were Dr. Sonnichsen (f), & Dr. R.V. Devulapallianbbhasskar up to?
Ulrik was stabbed to death.

A very awesome book cover, great font & writing style. A very well written mystery book. It was very easy for me to read/follow from start/finish & never a dull moment. There were no grammar/typo errors, nor any repetitive or out of line sequence sentences. Lots of exciting scenarios, with several twists/turns & a great set of unique characters to keep track of. This could also make another great mystery movie, or better yet a mini TV series. It was just OK for me so I will rate it at 4/5 stars.

Good story based on the Slenderman myth. Demonstrates how a myth can take on a life of its own and grow. It even mentions the true story of the two 12-year old girls in Waukesha, Wisconsin actually stabbed their friend 19 times and left her for dead supposedly at the request of the Slenderman. Willow Rose has taken that myth and used it as a basis for a book filled with terror.

Excellent read!
I loved it! This is the first I've read in the series and I'm already a big fan!
My usual reading tastes are far darker ...extreme horror has been my favorite genre. I'm so glad I stumbled across this book :)

Another Willow Rose success!
This has a really good story line, with an ending that I did not see coming. I enjoy the style in which Willow Rose writes. It is easy to read, and spot on.

This is based on the Slenderman, on Minecraft. Great read. I think I should read the rest of Willow Rose in order, feel like these characters , had been introduced before. Especially the doctor.

Chilling
There's no one quite like a Dane, especially creative when killing and plotting bedlam. At last Emma may be charged with her cyber hacking, her boyfriend Morten has been suspended from the force and a couple of serial killers are on the island. Peaceful place.

SPOILER ALERT: Slenderman is extremely intense, especially since Emma's best friend Sophia is so much a part of it. Well, one of her kids is. With so much personal an professional drama, how is Emma ever gonna get anything done? My suggestion is, read the book and find out! 😃

This book was good and I haven't read any of the other emma frost books. I will be checking them out after this one for sure. It was good. It has a good pace and it will keep you guessing all the way until the end and you will be say what the what. Good book and a ton of drama.

Very enjoyable
Emma is funny, quick witted and loves coffee and chocolate, she is also a computer hack. Some parts of the story made me sad and some made me laugh. Being an author and solver of crimes is a deadly business but Emma pulls it off.

I read the whole series back to back, and it is was like reading the same novel with different scenarios. The characters did not develop and the situations were the same, quite boring.
The first book was fine, #9, not so much.

Wow, great mystery!
I am not a big mystery fan, bought the book because of its title. Thought it was going to be more of a horror story. It turned out to be a page burner. Great heroine and very unexpected ending. Read the second half of the book in one sitting.

Kindle Unlimited, although own 9 of the 10 and possibly some of the sets; wondering if should buy 10 so going to read on ku but first going to read 1 NOPE ALL GARBAGE, went through 10 piles of filth and garbage and sewage. Every story has cardboard characters, unbelievable and stupid nonsense situations, and that is IF can understand the broken/bad mangled sentences of 'English'. CLAIMS a 'modern murder she wrote' uh how, it's not a decent mystery, it's not a decent 'book', and it's ridiculously BAD. "A hair-raising thriller from an Amazon bestselling author!...A must read for mystery lovers." NOT NOT NOT NOT and btw 'thriller is NOT the same as 'mystery', otherwise they'd be listed under the same subheading.
This is, by far, one of stupidest things {ALL TEN} have ever read in entire life, and that's thousands of books across every genre. To start, I hate books that flash back & forth through time, particularly when it's decades...but it seems like I have a knack for picking books that do just that, and it always sneaks up on me (mostly because I have a bad habit of not reading the chapter titles, so I'm temporarily lost & have to backtrack a bit to figure out where I lost the plot...).
I was ready to give up on this one for a couple of reasons--SO MANY characters were introduced within the first 10 chapters that I found it hard to follow along, particularly when I wasn't sure, initially, whose POV each chapter was being told from. I have a habit of finishing a book, at least about 95% of the time, even if it is excruciatingly difficult and I want to jab my eyes out...
All that to say that if you have the same issues I have (and I realize they are my issues), stick with it! It was slow-going, but I was finally hooked and couldn't put the story down sometime after about the 12th-15th chapters. Omg, the twists...some of them I saw coming, but there were at least a few that I didn't! Peter was the biggest one, but definitely not the only good one. I'm a big whodunit fan, so my brain is always working overtime in a race to figure out who the antagonist is. I figured this one out--not as soon as I would've liked, but well before the ending. The fact that Lisa's storyline was added was a stumper, but it did add to the mix and also kept me guessing for a while. Still not sure that I'm happy the way her character left off, but that's what series of books are for, right? To get you to read the next one. Not sure I'm going to do that any time soon, solely because I'm not ready for another start like I had with this one, but maybe down the line.

I am reading another of the author's books (The House that Jack Built), to see if the writing style is the same--if it starts off with numerous characters again and flashes back & forth like this one did, sadly, I will not pursue her writings. "To be forewarned is to have four arms" (Kelly Bundy)

Someone going by the name Slenderman is befriending teenagers while playing video games and getting them to kill people. These people have a connection that no one knows about except them.
Meanwhile Emma is still having her house fixed up when a box of old letters written to her grandmother from her grandmothers sister are found and given to her. The letters start in 1959 and starts to tell a happy story of her family that soon turns tragic.
You can’t help but get sucked into this back story knowing something bad is going to happen but unable to stop it or turn away.
Let me just say that although I was truly devastated when I realized there would be no Emma and Jack which soon turned to bitterness and resentment. I must say that I kind of started to reluctantly like Morten in this book. Even after his little outburst at Emma for always trying to feed him. (Yes she is still eating all the buns!!!!)
Why is Emma not calling the cops on Michael after his second abusive encounter?!!!
Also why is Emma not helping Victor get into some kind of program that will challenge him when he is clearly a genius....
The numerologist saga continued in this book and I was glad it ended in kind of an hilarious way as she meets her match in this book. And it isn’t Emma.

I picked this book up because Slenderman fascinates me and I'm ready to learn more about the incredible phenomenon which is the suited monster. Sadly, this book probably wasn't the best starting point as it isn't a supernatural thriller at all but a standard murder mystery - even looking at the synopsis after reading this book I think it's pretty misleading.
None of the characters in this book are likable, most of them are stereotypes and the rest are just arseholes. The main character has been exposed for hacking into police files and stealing information, and though she whines that she thinks it's ok because she was doing it to solve crimes - being punished for hacking seems pretty reasonable to me!
What I did enjoy about this book was how it illustrated how little parents know of their children's online lives and how teenagers can be groomed by strangers who know how to play on their sense of being misunderstood. It's just a shame that the stranger in question was an entirely unbelievable culprit in both motive and capability.
If the book hadn't already lost me with it's stilted dialogue and terrible characters, it was the portrayal of autism that finally pushed me over the edge.
Her second big boo-boo that sealed the deal for me was that she made the main villain autistic following a head injury (statistically VERY unlikely) and also gifted him with amazing computing abilities. Sorry, but that's just silly.
Some of the ideas in this book were really good, but I think the writing style and dialogue didn't do it any justice. Then again, maybe I'm just biased because I was hoping for a book with a brutal supernatural killer...

I saw this book on Book Bub for the very attractive price of $0.00
And as "Slenderman" killings was slightly newsworthy at the time, I grabbed the bargain it was.
Now that I have come to read the book, I have discovered this is book #9 in the Emma Frost series.
Yes, I have missed books 1-8, so obviously I am coming in a bit cold here.
Since it is book 9, not much of the way of introductions to the "main" characters. As this book involved 20+ characters, it took a while to work out who we were supposed to be cheering for.
And when the cliff hanger of an evil character had returned, I kind of missed the excitement.
However, when it is all said and done, this is a easy read. The main character seems to get away with the crime of hacking, by destroying her laptop with a hammer, thus destroying any evidence it was her. So take that with a grain of salt.
Easy read, never going to be a literary classic. 2 stars.

This is one crazy book. There is so much going on--I'm thinking probably 3 or 4 stories, tiny to big. Some continuations from books previous. Of course, the big plot is that Slenderman (a tall, thin man with a blank face) is coming for elderly citizens of Emma Frost's peaceful little island. Meanwhile, Emma finds decades old letters in her destroyed attic that could possibly have links to the murders. (Yes, there are many convenient instances that happen in this series, but sometimes you just have to just go along for the ride and enjoy.) As always with this author, the writing is smooth, the acton always coming and the book a quick and enjoyable read. Not for the young or squeamish, another great book in the series.

Good read
I had heard good things about Willow Rose, and I had heard about the slenderman, so I decided to try this book. Multiple points of view, mostly third person except for Emma Frost, the main character. There is also a back story woven into the main story. Characters and plot were interesting, and kept me turning the page.
Some of the events in this story that reflect back to an earlier Willow Rose story. Although you don't have to read that one to understand this book, I think if I had read it, it might have clarified some of the later action.
All in all, very enjoyable, and I will definitely read more books by Willow Rose.
